Search for natural and split supersymmetry in proton-proton collisions at s=13 \sqrt{s}=13 TeV in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum

    Get PDF
A search for supersymmetry (SUSY) is performed in final states comprising one or more jets and missing transverse momentum using data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in 2016 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The number of signal events is found to agree with the expected background yields from standard model processes. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models of SUSY that assume the production of gluino or squark pairs and their prompt decay to quarks and the lightest neutralino. The masses of bottom, top, and mass-degenerate light-flavour squarks are probed up to 1050, 1000, and 1325 GeV, respectively. The gluino mass is probed up to 1900, 1650, and 1650 GeV when the gluino decays via virtual states of the aforementioned squarks. The strongest mass bounds on the neutralinos from gluino and squark decays are 1150 and 575 GeV, respectively. The search also provides sensitivity to simplified models inspired by split SUSY that involve the production and decay of long-lived gluinos. Values of the proper decay length cτ0 from 10−3 to 105 mm are considered, as well as a metastable gluino scenario. Gluino masses up to 1750 and 900 GeV are probed for cτ0 = 1 mm and for the metastable state, respectively. The sensitivity is moderately dependent on model assumptions for cτ0 ≳ 1 m. The search provides coverage of the cτ0 parameter space for models involving long-lived gluinos that is complementary to existing techniques at the LHC

    No full text
Background: The stigma attached to substance use is considered as a barrier to treatment, resulting in continued dependence and harmful consequences for the health of drug abusers and society. Methods: In the current study, stigma and its relation with patient characteristics and secrecy was examined in people who were in treatment of drug dependency. Participants were 144 patients from two referral methadone treatment centers who completed a survey containing questionnaires about stigma, secrecy and other measures of drug use. Results: Patients reported high levels of self-stigma and moderate levels of stigma-related rejection and perceived stigma as well as commonly using secrecy, as a way of coping. More experiencing of self -stigma was associated with unemployment, positive history of IV drug use, incarceration and heroin consumption, compared to opium use. IV drug users and unemployed persons also reported more contacts with stigma- related rejection. No association was found between stigma and previous history of treatment for substance abuse. Conclusion: Findings indicate stigma in individuals who are in the treatment for substance dependence and highlight the need for more studies to clarify all aspects of drug use stigma

Considering insomnia as a common health issue, it is essential to access valid assessment tools for sleep evaluations and research in all societies. For this purpose, we aimed to evaluate the cross-cultural validation and psychometric properties of the Persian version related to the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire "CSHQ" in Iranian children. This study was conducted on 300 parents of primary school children aged 7-12 years in Kashan city. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Construct validity was evaluated by factor analysis. The Spearman correlation coefficient was also applied to examine the convergence and divergence validity. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.80 for the entire questionnaire. There was a positive correlation between the results from CSHQ and Bear's. The range of convergence validity was 0.4 to 0.86. The range of divergence validity was 0.006 to 0.66. Factor analysis showed that eight factors had the special value (with eigenvalue >1), which means that the 33 questions are summarized in eight dimensions. Our findings imply good reliability and validity of the CSHQ in the Iranian society. © 2015 Japanese Society of Sleep Research

Background & Objectives: Mental health is one of the most important public health issues, and it has major contribution in decreasing global burden of diseases. The objective of this study was to estimate the point prevalence rate of mental disorders in the population aged 18 years and over in Kashan city in 2009. Methods: A classified- randomized sampling method was used. The General Health Questionnaire and clinical interview were employed to determine of mental disorders. data were analyzed by using Spss v. 16 and OR, and Chi-square test. Results: The overall prevalence rate of mental disorders in Kashan was estimated (29) (Female= 35/5). The most prevalent disorders were mood disorders and anxiety disorders (9/3) and (4/7) respectively. In total five hundred-five (505) individuals with mental disorders, 32.1 had mood disorders, 25.6 had anxiety disorders, 4.2 had psychotic disorders, 3.4 had neurological disorders, 3.4 dissociative disorders and 23.7 had other disorders. In this study 7.8 of subject had one mental disorder at least. The prevalence rate was high in people aged 56-65 years (35/8) and widow (35/8), illiterate (42/8) and unemployed (38/8). There were statistically significant differences between genders, education, and occupation and marital status. Conclusion: Mental disorder has a priority for any intention intervention by health policy makers. It should be taken into account for any future agenda by ministry of health

Objectives: Red yeast rice (RYR) has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in animal studies. The aim of this study was to access the efficacy of RYR for treatment of depression in patients with recent history of percutaneous coronary intervention. Design: This was a 6-week double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial. Setting: Participants included outpatient men and women aged 18 to 60 years old with history of coronary angioplasty, diagnosis of major depressive disorder based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) score of 20. Candidates were excluded in case of any other DSM-V disorders, use of lipid lowering agents in the last two weeks, elevated serum aminotransferases or serum LDL 80 mg/dL. Interventions: Patients received sertraline (200 mg/day) plus either red yeast rice commercially available capsules (2400 mg/day) containing 10.05 mg/day lovastatin or placebo. Main outcome measures: The primary outcome was the difference in mean change of the HDRS score from baseline to endpoint between the two treatment arms. Results: The primary outcome approached significance (Mean difference in score change(CI95) = 1.24 (2.51 to 0.03), p =.056) and was accompanied by a significant time treatment interaction effect Two-way ANOVA: F (df, mean square) = 4.42 (2, 13.687), p =.015. There was no significant difference between the two treatment arms in terms of lipid profile, liver function tests, or incidence of adverse events. Conclusions: This is the first report on the benefits of RYR in treatment of depression. Future studies are warranted to confirm our findings and scrutinize the mechanisms of action. © 2018 Elsevier Lt

HUMAN PREADIPOCYTES INHIBIT PROLIFERATION OF MCF-7 BREAST CANCER CELL LINE

    No full text
Cancer cell-stromal cell interaction plays a crucial role in the growth and invasion of tumor cells of various organs. It has been recently suggested that adipocytes and preadipocytes, two specific types of stromal cells, affect the biological behavior of variety of breast cancer cell lines. In spite of few investigations, there is a controversy in the literatures about the effects of adipocytes and preadipocytes on tumor growth. In this study, we compared the proliferation of MCF-7 breast-cancer cell line in culture with or without presence of primary isolated human adipocytes and preadipocytes by MTT colorimetric assay in 2, 4 and 6 days of culture experiments. Human adipocytes increased the proliferation of MCF-7 cells in the co-culture about 8.6%, 12% and 12% more than MCF-7 monoculture in 2, 4 and 6 days after cell culture respectively. Human preadipocytes decreased the proliferation of MCF-7 cells in the co-culture about 7.7%, 16.9% and 21% lesser than MCF-7 cell monoculture in 2, 4 and 6 days after cell culture, respectively. Proliferation of MCF-7 cells in co- culture with adipocytes were 17.7%, 35% and 42% more than MCF-7 cells in co-culture with preadipocytes after 2, 4 and 6 days of culture, respectively. We concluded that human adipocytes increase the proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cell line but human preadipocytes inhibit proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cell line
