[No Titles in Utopia]
The intended purpose of this thesis it to compose a collection of poetry consisting of four sections with each section containing between four to ten poems. The poems themselves will range between one to three pages and will be divided according to their particular subject matter, such as, but not limited, to childhood reflection, father-son relationships, the estrangement from suburbia and modernized America, and ekphrasis-inspired pieces that weave both art and narrative elements together. My main goal with this collection is to write poems in a clear straightforward manner without obscuring language, and constructing persona narratives that invite the reader to view a particular theme or subject from a different perspective
Faint emission lines in the Galactic H II regions M16, M20 and NGC 3603
We present deep echelle spectrophotometry of the Galactic {\hii} regions M16,
M20 and NGC 3603. The data have been taken with the Very Large Telescope
Ultraviolet-Visual Echelle Spectrograph in the 3100 to 10400 \AA range. We have
detected more than 200 emission lines in each region. Physical conditions have
been derived using different continuum and line intensity ratios. We have
derived He, C and O abundances from pure recombination
lines as well as abundances from collisionally excited lines for a large number
of ions of different elements. We have obtained consistent estimations of the
temperature fluctuation parameter, {\ts}, using different methods. We also
report the detection of deuterium Balmer lines up to D (M16) and to
D (M20) in the blue wings of the hydrogen lines, which excitation
mechanism seems to be continuum fluorescence. The temperature fluctuations
paradigm agree with the results obtained from optical CELs and the more
uncertain ones from far IR fine structure CELs in NGC 3603, although, more
observations covering the same volume of the nebula are necessary to obtain
solid conclusions.Comment: 22 pages, 13 Tables, 7 Figures. Accepted for publication by MNRA
Computer simulations of catanionic surfactants adsorbed at air/water interfaces: II. Full coverage
We extend our previous molecular dynamics experiments Rodriguez et al., J. Phys. Chem. B 109, 24427 (2005) to the analysis of the adsorption of catanionic surfactants at water/air interfaces, at a surfactant coverage close to that of the saturated monolayer: 30.3 Ă…2 per headgroup. The mixture of surfactants investigated corresponds to equal amounts of dodecytrimethylammonium DTA and dodecylsulfate DS. The structure of the interface is analyzed in terms of the local densities and orientational correlations of all relevant interfacial species. In accordance with experimental evidence, the DTA headgroups penetrate deeper into the aqueous substrate than the DS ones, although the average positions of all headgroups, with respect to the interface, lie in positions somewhat more external than the ones observed at lower coverages. Average tail tilts are close to 45°. The characteristics of the headgroup-water substrate correlations are also analyzed using a tessellation procedure of the interface. The density and polarization responses of the interfacial domains closest to the DS headgroups are enhanced, compared to those adjacent to the DTA detergents. Dynamical aspects related to the diffusion and to the orientational correlations of different water layers in close contact with the surfactant are also investigated.Fil: Clavero, Esteban Dario.
