    Relationship Between Banks Characteristics And Shubuhat : The Case Of Islamic Banks In Malaysia

    Islamic Shariah establishes rules which govern and define the economic, social, political and cultural life of Islamic societies, including their financial institutions. Islam, in principle, prohibits all activities that cause harm to the dealers and consumers in the market as well as the society as a whole. It is very important that all dealings and business activities must abide by the rules of Islamic law so as to avoid all doubtful activities. The primary objectives of this research are to define Shubuhat from the Islamic Banking perspectives and to determine the relationships between selected Islamic banks based on the following characteristics; Muslim or non-Muslim chairman, SSB, Muslim shareholders, type of bank and bank orientation and Shubuhat. This study was conducted based on primary data (interviews) and secondary data (annual reports) collection. This study aims to re-conceptualize the definition of Shubuhat especially with regard to Islamic banks and to investigate variables that have impacts on the involvement of Shubuhat in the Islamic Banks. This study also highlights the synthesized Shubuhat definition from the previous studies as well as the interviews on Shubuhat with religious experts and consequentially the operational definition used in the study. The total list of Islamic Banks is 21 banks, as in March 2010. The annual reports were collected in cross-sectional year 2010 and analyzed using the SPSS program. The research found that the selected banks‟ characteristics influence Shubuhat could be used as subjects of references in determining the existence of shubuhat in Islamic banks. All the banks‟ characteristics were found to be inversely related to shubuhat.Based on the findings, the discussions of the existing findings as well as the theoretical, practical implications of the study are presented in this paper

    Board Diversity and Earning Quality: Examining the Role of Internal Audit as a Moderator

    The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between board diversity and the earnings quality in the firms listed in Bursa Malaysia Main Market. Malaysia is a country with multi ethnicity and different cultures among the people and this might affect positively on the quality of earning. The study also examines the involvement of the Internal Audit function being performed in-house or outsourced as a tool to enhance the earnings quality for the firms. Nationality diversity and ethnicity diversity are found to have a significant impact on the earning quality of the sample companies. Meanwhile, gender diversity and Age diversity does not show any significant impact on earnings quality. This study offers a significant contribution to existing earning quality literature. The participation of more different races on the board will be able to increase the quality of earning of the companies

    Emerging technology and auditing practice : analysis for future directions

    Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of emerging technology (technology adoption, perceived benefits, technological challenges and ease of use) and the auditing practice of accounting professionals. Design/methodology/approach – The primary method of data collection was a questionnaire directed to newly practicing chartered accountants who are partners of sole proprietorship or partnership firms in India. The data were analyzed by using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings – The findings revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between characteristics of emerging technology (technology adoption, technological challenges and ease of use) and auditing practice, while factors of the perceived benefits had a negative relationship with auditing practice. Research limitations/implications – The study model would aid technology enabled audit research by giving a platform for a new study to investigate further detailed solutions to emerging information technology determinants. Practical implications – This study illustrates how tools technique perceived benefit motivates sole proprietorship practicing auditors to adopt emerging technology- enabled auditing software for auditing client’s financial statements. Further, this study has added to the information technology auditing literature and might add benefits to the numerous other audit firms to adopt in emerging technology tools their audit firm. Social implications – Audit firms, generally sole proprietorship and partnership firms, should be given enough awareness about the latest audit software tools to carry out their audit tasks efficiently. Originality/value – The study findings highlight benefits of emerging technology-enabled auditing practice among owners/partners of the sole proprietorship or partnership firms, which is not extensively discussed in the prior studies.     Customer Accounting Information and Omani Service Companies’ Performance

    The main objective of this paper is to investigate the link between customer accounting information and companies' performance in Sultanate of Oman. This is a cross-sectional study with quantitative method where the quantitative data was accumulated through questionnaire. The sample size of 160 usable questionnaires were received from employees work in the banks that are considered as a sample of the current study. The findings show that there is a positive link between the customers' accounting information and the companies’ performance. The findings pointed out that companies' extent of customer accounting information usage have significantly impact the institutional performance. This research is a new in its type to be applied in Sultanate of Oman context via testing the relation between its predictors of customer accounting information features towards their impact on company performance

    Organization Features and Profitability: Implications for a Sample of Emerging Countries

    A huge number of prior works has tested the link between control mechanisms and organization profitability. Several methods are used by such works to enhance the notion that there is an inconsistent result in the link between the board feature and organization profitability.  However, there is unpredictability of this link shown by the prior works. Thus, the current work aims at testing the board features as internal control mechanisms represented by the size of both organization and the board of directors in their impact on organization profitability in the non-financial companies in Jordan, which was selected from a sample of Emerging Countries. Data were collected from the annual reports for 65 organizations for the year 2019 from the website of ASE via utilizing a cross-sectional analysis study. After testing the hypothesis of the current work, the findings revealed that the size of the board of director has a significant impact on the organization profitability of nonfinancial companies in Jordan. However, this work showed that organization size has an insignificant impact on organization profitability. The current work might help policymakers in Emerging Countries in general, and Jordanian non-financial sector in particular, deliberate policies related to using robust control mechanisms to enhance directors' commitment toward utilizing internal control mechanisms for the ultimate aim in promoting organization profitabilit

    Causal Relationship between Market Growth and Economic Growth. Comparison Study

    The present study aims to test the causal relationship between the economic growth and the market growth in three different countries with different market characteristics: the USA, Malaysia and Jordan for the period from 1994 to 2010. The results showed that the growth of market returns in Jordan does not affect the economic growth and vice versa. However, the growth of market returns in Malaysia has an influence on the economic growth, but not vice versa. The USA results, in contrast, showed that the growth of market returns affects the economic growth and vice versa. The results support the researcher assumption that the causal relationship between the economic growth and the market growth affected by the circumstances of each country.     Green Marketing and Attitude Affect the Consumer Buying Behavior of Green Product in Turkey

    Consumers are increasingly looking for natural goods to live more sustainably and healthily in recent years. As a result, firms have begun aligning their strategies with sustainability by emphasizing their production of natural products that are both beneficial for health and environmentally sustainable. However, there is a risk of deceptive claims being made. This is study focuses on determining consumer buying behavior regarding green products in Turkey, with an emphasis on the effect of green marketing and attitude on consumer buying behavior. The study integrates fundamental theoretical approaches to consumer buying, such as the theory of planned behavior (TPB), in a modified conceptual framework. A survey of 385 Turkish consumers knowledgeable about environmentally friendly green products was used to gather data, which was then analyzed using the SPSS 26 software. The results show that green marketing and attitudes have a significant influence on Turkish customers' consumer buying behavior.The findings of this study offer insight into theoretical approaches to consumer buying behavior for researchers and academicians and provide guidance for marketers in devising green marketing strategies to achieve optimal competitive advantage
