    The role of social media and network capital in assisting migrants in search of a less precarious existence in Saudi Arabia

    Precarity is a consequence of the shift from Fordism, which was linked to lasting and secure employment, to post-Fordism underpinned by flexible labour with provisional, casual, unstable, low-paying jobs. Globalization and widening inequalities around the world have driven people to migrate in search of a better life. This paper aims to explore the extent to which migrants in Saudi Arabia use social media sites to facilitate their migration process in search of a better life. We found that social media strengthens social networks, which play an important role in influencing individuals’ decision to migrate. Their social network helped migrants during the planning and the actual migration to Saudi Arabia. Moreover, migrants used social media to persuade or assist relatives and friends ‘back home’ to migrate to Saudi Arabia

    Integrating Time in Public Policy: Empirical Description of Gender-Specific Outcomes and Budgeting

    Incorporating time in public policymaking is an elusive area of research. Despite the fact that gender budgeting is emerging as a significant tool to analyze the socioeconomic impacts of fiscal policies and thus identify their impacts on gender equity, the integration of time-use statistics in this process remains incomplete, or is even entirely absent, in most countries. If gender budgeting is predominantly based on the index-based empirical description of gender-specific outcomes, a reexamination of the construction of the gender (inequality) index is needed. This is necessary if we are to avoid an incomplete description of the gender-specific outcomes in budget policymaking. Further, "hard-to-price" services are hardly analyzed in public policymaking. This issue is all the more revealing, as the available gender-inequality index - based on health, empowerment, and labor market participation - so far has not integrated time-use statistics in its calculations. From a public finance perspective, the gender budgeting process often rests on the assumption that mainstream expenditures, such as public infrastructure, are nonrival in nature, and that applying a gender lens to these expenditures is not feasible. This argument is refuted by time budget statistics. The time budget data reveal that this argument is often flawed, as there is an intrinsic gender dimension to nonrival expenditures

This is also very important in economic growth. It has financial, psychological and social risks while taking the situation into consideration. In addition, women’s participation in the work force has a vital importance in Turkey’s national income. Nearly 8.5% of women are in management, or in decision-making positions. It is important to measure happiness of these female workforce in order to understand and manage their feelings. Our previous study investigated successful women happiness and ideas about being entrepreneurial women in Turkey to discover the factors of the happy women entrepreneurs’ success in business life. In this research, depending from the previous study, we measure Turkish women entrepreneurs’ happiness by using the Turkish happiness dictionary, which was developed a set of normative emotional ratings for the Turkish language and culture. We re-collect 26 Turkish successful women entrepreneurs’ online feedback by using the extracted categories of women entrepreneurs from a different 3rd party organization. Natural language processing methods and text mining are used. We automatically measure the average happiness of each feedback of a woman and the average happiness of Turkish successful female entrepreneurs. In addition, we cluster scores according to categories which present the common factors contributing to the success of happy female entrepreneurs
