    Mixed-reality learning environments in teacher education: An analysis of TeachLivE™ research

    TeachLivE™, a mixed-reality simulated classroom technology, has been used in initial teacher education programs to provide repeatable experiential learning opportunities for students now for more than a decade and in more than 80 universities worldwide. However, no broad scale investigation has been conducted into how the platform has been used or what research has been generated as a result. The aim of this study is to provide insight into the types of TeachLivE™ research carried out since its inception and to identify trends and potential gaps in this research. Peer-reviewed academic primary research publications—journal articles (23), conference proceedings (12), and thesis dissertations (20)—were reviewed for participants, research methods, analysis, research design, data collection tools, and design approaches. Of the 102 articles identified as relevant, “instructional skills development” and “integration of TeachLivE™ in teacher education” were the most commonly researched topics. Findings indicate that preservice teachers were the most commonly studied group of participants, research methods were predominately qualitative, single-subject experimental research design was employed most often, and the most used data collection tools were surveys and observation. These findings highlight that the range of topics is increasing, with studies on in-service teachers in school-based contexts beginning to emerge as a new area of interest. This systematic review has implications for researchers and the developers of TeachLivE™. It provides valuable insight and recommendations for future studies in this emerging teacher education field, where technology is not simply used “in the classroom” but rather “as the classroom.

    Emotions in Learning, Teaching, and Leadership: A Bibliometric Review of Asian Literature (1990–2018)

    This study aims to map the Asian literature on emotions in learning, teaching, and leadership through a review of published research in Web of Science Core Collection. In all, 862 articles published between 1990 and 2018 were retrieved and analyzed. Bibliographic coupling of the countries, bibliographic coupling of the authors, co-occurrences of author keywords, bibliographic coupling of the journals, and bibliographic coupling of the institutions were extracted through bibliographic visualization methods. All the h-classics publications were also reviewed and categorized according to their topics. People’s Republic of China (Hong Kong), Israel, Turkey, and Cyprus are the countries with most relevant evidence. The top authors are found to be D.W Chan and M. Zembylas, while emotional intelligence, empathy, burnout, emotion, and self-efficacy have been the most frequently studied concepts. Teaching and Teacher Education and Journal of Educational Psychology are the journals with prominent pertinent influence. Education University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev are the institutions with the most notable influence.     The development of model and measuring tool for specialists accreditation in area of public health services

The main purpose of the paper is to present some theoretical approaches and some methods providing assessment optimization in specialists' accreditation in area of public health services. The results of research presented in this paper, include the model of multistage adaptive measurements and two methods for reliability and validity analysis, providing high justice decisions in accreditation and corresponding to requirements in High-Stakes Testing procedures. The assessment optimization intends for minimization time of assessment and for reliability and validity data increasing. For optimization the special model of measurements based on multistage adaptive testing is offered. The using of offered model in assessment design allows to realize the advantages of traditional adaptive testing and linear testing, while minimizing their disadvantages. So, this model is recommended as dominating for assessment in accreditation. For validity increasing in assessment in accreditation the approach based on Structural Equation Modeling is offered. This method allows to analyze the significance of relations between observed and latent variables that have any interpretation as causal effects, and to construct the model of their relations. The example of model of casual relations between disciplines, latent variables (competencies) and factors is offered. The model helps to increase construct and content validity of measuring tool using in public health services accreditation. The methods of reliability estimation in multistage measurements, offered in paper, has innovative character. It has branching structure as the value of reliability in multistage measurements depends not only on reliability of separate stages, but also from correlations between them. The presented approaches allow to increase validity and reliability of decisions in public health services specialists' assessment or in other spheres of assessment during accreditation

    The impact of biologics and tofacitinib on cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes in patients with rheumatic disease: a systematic literature review

    Introduction Rheumatic diseases are autoimmune, inflammatory diseases often associated with cardiovascular (CV) disease, a major cause of mortality in these patients. In recent years, treatment with biologic and targeted synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), either as monotherapy or in combination with other drugs, have become the standard of treatment. In this systematic literature review, we evaluated the effect of treatment with biologic or tofacitinib on the CV risk and outcomes in these patients. Methods A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for articles reporting on CV risk and events in patients with rheumatic disease treated with a biologic agent or tofacitinib. Articles identified were subjected to two levels of screening. Articles that passed the first level based on title and abstract were assessed on full-text evaluation. The quality of randomized clinical trials was assessed by Jadad scoring system and the quality of the other studies and abstracts was assessed using the Downs and Black instrument. The data extracted included study design, baseline patient characteristics, and measurements of CV risk and events. Results Of the 5722 articles identified in the initial search, screening yielded 105 unique publications from 90 unique studies (33 clinical trials, 39 prospective cohort studies, and an additional 18 retrospective studies) that reported CV risk outcomes. A risk of bias analysis for each type of report indicated that they were of good or excellent quality. Importantly, despite some limitations in data reported, there were no indications of significant increase in adverse CV events or risk in response to treatment with the agents evaluated. Conclusions Treatment with biologic or tofacitinib appears to be well-tolerated with respect to CV outcomes in these patients

    Spirituality and Well-Being of Children, Adolescent, and Adult Students: A Scientific Mapping of the Literature

    This study aims to map the selected literature on students’ spirituality and well-being to reveal the current and historical research trends in the relevant literature. Bibliographic coupling of the journals, countries, authors, and organizations, and co-occurrences of author keywords were illustrated through VOSviewer. Moreover, citation analysis was done, and h-classics publications were reviewed. The researchers did the initial search on January 5, 2020, and updated all the records on August 14, 2021. Most of the studies showed that students’ spirituality was positively associated with their well-being. Most of the researchers preferred to work on samples of adult and adolescent students rather than children. The current and historical trends in the relevant literature are discussed in the paper

    Self-esteem, bullying perpetration/victimization and perceived parental support in a nationally representative sample of australian students

The purpose of this study was to explore the inter-relationships among students’ self-esteem, bullying victimization/perpetration behaviours, and perceived parental support, with a focus on how self-esteem mediates the association of parental support and bullying behaviours and how bullying mediates the association of parental support and self-esteem. We employed structural equation modelling to analyse the secondary data collected in “Young Minds Matter: The Second Australian Child and Adolescent Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing” funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Analyses were performed on 431 adolescent students selected from 2967 adolescents aged 11-17 years. Our findings revealed that parental support has a direct positive association with self-esteem and a direct negative association with bullying behaviours. This study highlights the importance of parental support in both lowering bullying perpetration/victimization and enhancing student’s self-esteem. Findings of this study could improve anti-bullying programs
