In this study, anatomical characteristics of leaves and stems of 19 taxa of Thlaspi sensu lato, 9 of which are endemic to Turkey, were investigated in order to determine taxonomic relationships among the studied taxa. The anatomical characteristics of all taxa were determined and assessed using the cluster analysis and the principal component analysis. The transverse sections of the leaves and stems exhibited various diagnostic characters in terms of the pattern of epidermal cell and mesophyll layers, the number and size of vascular bundles, and the thickness of the cortex and endodermis. Important differences were detected in number, size, and index of stomata, and in epidermal cell wall structures in the adaxial and abaxial surfaces. The results showed that the compared anatomical characteristics among taxa are partially compatible with their sectional delimitation in their traditional rank in The Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands. The results also point out that some taxonomic re-arrangements may be required.

AbstractThe relationship between leadership and organizational outcomes was investigated by some academicians. Since leadership is a phenomenon that keeps numerous characteristics together and that is the basis of shaping organizational structures, its relationship with organizational outcomes is of particular concern both to the academic world and the business world in practice. Within this scope, the relationship between several different leadership models and organizational outcomes was investigated; however, in the researches, leadership perception studies were carried out only for white collar personnel. When it is considered that particularly most of the employees (followers) working in the production sector are blue collar employees, it is thought that investigating the leadership perceptions of blue collars plays an important role in determining the contribution of leadership types to organizational outcomes. In this study, with the information obtained from 296 blue collar employees who work in food and manufacturing industry in Kocaeli and Istanbul, heavily industrialized provinces in our country, by means of multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ), the relationship of leadership behaviors with organizational outcomes (efficiency, satisfaction and extra effort) was investigated. When the multifactor leadership scale (MLQ) was applied to the participants, it was seen that the nine components that shows all leadership dimensions stated by Bass were not clearly decomposed from each other. As a result of reliability and internal consistency tests applied to these data, active and passive leadership dimensions were revised. As a result of the analysis conducted considering these data, the relationships of active and passive leadership dimensions with organizational outcomes were investigated and it was found out that organizational outcomes had a positive strong relationship with active leadership dimension

This study aims to determine which values to what extent are allowed in the story and tale books that are prepared for preschool period children This study aims to determine which values to what extent are allowed in the story and tale books that are prepared for preschool children. This study is a qualitative study with descriptive quality Two different data collection tools are used in this study. These tools are semi-structured interview forms and Value List consisting of 20 values. These values are chosen from UNESCO Value List, Living Values List and Rokeach Value Classification. The study group of the research is composed of 710 children, 192 parents, 50 teachers and 52 story and tale books. Based on the preferences of children, parents and teachers, 52 story and tale books were determined and content analysis was administered. As a result of the research; it is understood that story and tale books prepared for preschool children, stress mostly the values of happiness; at least the peace, solidarity and honesty. However, patriotic value doesn’t take place among these values. Whereas kindness, aesthetics, friendship, cleanliness and helpfulness values are emphasized frequently; humility, tolerance, hospitality and respect values are emphasized rarely. While aesthetic value is emphasized mostly in the books that preferred by children and parents; happiness is mostly emphasized in the books that preferred by teachers. The results of the research are expected to contribute to authors while preparing the content of the story and tale books for the preschool aged children, and also to teachers and parents for their book preferences.

Dual (type IV) left anterior descending artery

Congenital coronary artery anomalies are uncommon. Dual left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) is defined as the presence of two LADs within the anterior interventricular sulcus (AIVS), and is classified into four types. Type IV is a rarely reported subtype and differs from the others, with a long LAD originating from the right coronary artery (RCA). Dual LAD is a benign coronary artery anomaly, but should be recognised especially before interventional procedures. With the increasing use of multidedector computed tomography (MDCT), it is essential for radiologists to be aware of this entity and the cross-sectional findings

Objective: The purpose of our study was to determine the corelation between internal acoustic channel diameter and idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss. Material and Method: We defined sudden sensorineural hearing loss according to the criteria of Wilson as a 30-dB sensorineural hearing loss occurring in at least three contiguous frequencies in less than 3 days. The internal acoustic channel diameter all of the patients was measured from three dimensional temporal CT scan. Results: Of the 15 patients, 7 were male and 8 were female, ranging in age from 17 to 59 and the mean age was 39.6 years. The right ear was involved in 6 patients, and the left ear in 9. There was no statistically significant difference between the patients’ affected and intact ears (p>0.05). However, the mean diameter of affected side of the patients was narrower than those of healthy controls (p0.05).

Aim. To evaluate mean Hounsfield unit calculation (HUAC), bone density, subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), breast density (constitutional imaging biomarkers) and age in symptomatic patients with COVID-19, to assess their correlation with pneumonia severity. Materials and Methods. Between 11 March and 30 May 2020, 272 consecutive symptomatic female patients with COVID-19 who underwent chest CT imaging at baseline were reviewed. HUAC, bone density, SFT and breast density were evaluated retrospectively and statistically compared in cases with negative/positive PCR test results, with/without pneumonia and with mild/moderate-severe pneumonia. Univariate/multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied for estimation of moderate/severe pneumonia. Results. The parameters of age, HUAC, bone density, SFT and breast density were significantly different between patients with/without pneumonia. Additionally, the patients with moderate-severe pneumonia were older, had lower bone density, lower HUAC values, greater SFT and mostly fatty breast density. ROC analysis showed the highest AUC values of 0.763 and 0.744 for age and HUAC, respectively. A combination of HUAC and age was the most accurate model for estimation of moderate/severe pneumonia on logistic regression. Good intraobserver and interobserver reliabilities were detected. Conclusions. The severity of COVID-19 pneumonia among adult females was associated with older age, lower bone density, a lower HUAC value, greater SFT and fatty breast parenchyma. All these factors can be responsible for 21.9% of the development of moderate/severe pneumonia

Objective: The present study examines the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on radical prostatectomy performed as part of localized prostate cancer treatment in Turkey. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis was made of the data of 176 patients from 8 centers in Turkey who underwent radical prostatectomy due to localized prostate cancer over the 2 years spanning March 1, 2019, to February 28, 2021. Within this timeframe, March 1, 2019, to February 28, 2020, was denoted the 1-year pre-coronavirus disease 2019 period, while March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2021, was denoted the 1-year coronavirus disease 2019 period. An analysis was made of whether there was a difference in the number of radical prostatectomies performed for prostate cancer, the time from biopsy to operation, and the biopsy and radical prostatectomy pathology between the 2 periods. Results: It was found that the number of radical prostatectomies performed for localized prostate cancer during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic was statistically and highly significantly fewer than in the pre-coronavirus disease 2019 period (P < .001). The patients diagnosed with Gleason 3 + 3 (low risk) prostate cancer were statistically significantly fewer in number in the coronavirus disease 2019 period (P < .001). The pathological Gleason score was upgrading than the biopsy Gleason score in all patients who underwent in both periods (P < .001). When the periods were compared, the pathological involvement determined by lymph node dissection performed during radical prostatectomy was found to be decreased in the coronavirus disease 2019 period, although the difference was not statistically significant (P = .051). Conclusion: As with many diseases, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer have been adversely affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. © 2022, AVES. All rights reserved
