Beer-spoilage Bacterial Strains in Large and Small Corporations in Breweries

Bacteria-spoilage strains are the root cause of unwanted flavors and unaesthetic appearances of beer. This accidental introduction of bacteria is causing economic loss to businesses and is affecting the health and loyalty of the breweries\u27 consumers. The two most studied strains are from the genera Pediococcus and Lactobacillus are a result of either primary or secondary contamination from the production process. Craft beers, such as Hazy Beers, produced by small-scale breweries are more prone to spoilage than commercial beers produced by large-scale breweries. The goal of this study is to test for the presence of bacteria-spoilage strains in small-scale breweries and large-scale breweries to determine if production size has a direct effect on bacterial growth in their final product. Using the spread plate technique, we inoculated two different media with six beer samples in an anaerobic environment and observed growth using the gram staining method to identify the strain by looking at the bacteria’s morphology under the microscope. Hazy Lady IPA, produced by Six Rivers Brewery, a small-scale brewery, was the only beer in our sample size that showed significant growth on both WLDs media showing significant Lactobacillus and Pediococcus bacterial contamination. Future studies should continue to explore the relationship between production size and bacterial contamination in larger sample sizes to determine if this correlation is unique to Humboldt County’s small-scale brewery, Six Rivers, or all small-scale breweries

Conocimiento, Actitud y Práctica sobre la leptospirosis que poseen los habitantes del barrio San Martin manzana 19, Cruz de Rio Grande, RACCS I Semestre 2019

El trabajo de investigación sobre conocimiento, actitud y práctica de la población de la manzana número 19 del barrio san Martin, en el cual tomó una muestra de 68 personas de las cuales se les realizo una encuesta estructurada donde se evaluó el grado de conocimiento de esta población sobre la enfermedad. El tipo de estudio realizado es Descriptivo, de carácter Mixto y de Corte Transversal. Donde se describieron los conocimientos, actitudes y las prácticas sobre leptospirosis de los pobladores del barrio Martín, además de tener un carácter mixto porque se presentaron datos cualitativos y cuantitativos; y de corte transversal porque existe un periodo de tiempo predeterminado. La población que se estudió fueron cada uno de los pobladores que viven en el barrio san Martin dentro de la manzana 19 que corresponde a 228 habitantes del Municipio de la Cruz de Río Grande 2019. Siendo la muestra los 68 pobladores de este barrio. El municipio está distribuido en comunidades y localidades, de las cuales existen en la actualidad 11 poblados. Existen un total de 103 comunidades divididas en 13 sectores. El estudio fue realizado en el barrio San Martin que tiene 655 habitantes en el Municipio de la Cruz de Río Grande, Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur I semestre 2019. Se implementó un plan de intervención para darle respuesta a los resultados encontrados de la encuesta realizada a las personas sujetas al estudio que necesitaban una intervención rápida. Al evaluar el plan de intervención se constató que había mejoría en el conocimiento, actitud y práctica con respecto a la enfermedad de las personas sujetas al estudio, además se evidencio que los patios estaban limpios, y que cloraban el agua, y que manejaban bien los desechos sólidos, además del drenaje de las charcas y malezas. Considerando haber tenido un impacto en la población. Se consideró que con el plan de intervención se logró establecer los canales necesarios para mantener estas actividades en coordinación con las otras instituciones dirigidas por la alcaldía y el Ministerio de Salud

LA ESTRATEGIA DE COMUNICACIÓN PERUANA EN EL DIFERENDO MARÍTIMO CON CHILE. COMUNICANDO EL FALLO DE LA CORTE INTERNACIONAL DE JUSTICIA DE LA HAYA EN 2014

El proceso jurídico entre las repúblicas de Perú y Chile ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia para establecer los límites marítimos entre ambos países, mereció la elaboración de una estrategia de comunicación a cargo de la Cancillería peruana para promover una opinión pública a favor de las acciones de política exterior del Estado peruano e informar a su ciudadanía los alcances del fallo que pusieron fin a esta controversia; todo ello como un ejemplo de que dos países pueden resolver sus diferencias de manera pacífica.Palabras clave: Relaciones Internacionales, diplomacia pública, estrategia de comunicación, opinión pública

Increment of spontaneous human biophoton emission caused by anger emotional states. Proof of concept

Humans spontaneously emit visible radiation from their skin, which is known as biophoton or ultra-weak photon emission (UPE). Up to date, UPE intensity changes according to different external and internal factors have been reported. However, the influence in the human UPE of negative emotional states has never been studied despite their clinic and forensic interest. In this work, an ad hoc system based on a high-sensitive CCD detector was developed to detect and image UPE from human's upper body. Then, the UPE emitted by the upper part of the body of nine volunteers was imaged in two different personal states: (i) when subjects were feeling relaxed; and (ii) when they were emotionally stimulated to feel anger. For all the volunteers, the relative measurement of UPE intensity was higher when feeling anger than when feeling relaxed. Due to the relevance of this disruptive idea and the horizon this knowledge can provide, this proof of concept must be followed by further experiments. An increase in the number of subjects will be accomplished in order to enhance these preliminary results and propose UPE as a new physiological parameter of negative emotional states.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN
