    EFFECT OF PLYOMETRIC TRAINING ON REPEATED SPRINT PERFORMANCE IN AMATEUR SOCCER PLAYERS

    The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of plyometric training on repeated sprint ability in amateur soccer players. Twenty amateur soccer players participated in this study as the subject. The subjects were randomly assigned to plyometric training group (n=10, age: 19.7±2.26 years) and control group (n=10, age: 18.8±0.6 years). The training group is experienced a plyometric exercise 2 days a week for 12 weeks. Pre- and post-tests assessed 6x35 meters (Repeated Anaerobic Sprint Test) repeated sprint test, body composition, rest heart rate, and peak heart rate in control and plyometric group. For the comparison of groups, paired samples t-test and independent (IBM SSPS 21.0) was used. The results revealed that significant difference in six piece repeated first sprint after the 12 weeks plyometric training were in the plyometric group. The plyometric group also showed a significant difference in rest heart beat rate, peak heart beat rate, right leg fat (%), fat mass, fat free mass, left leg fat mass, and fat free mass. However there was no a significant difference in left leg fat (%), BMI, BMR and total body water. The major finding in the study was the significant improvements in repeated sprint performance and body composition. According to these results, it can be said that practicing of plyometric training develops repeated sprint performance and also increases mass fat loses, in addition to regular soccer training.  Article visualizations

    Although musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) has emerged as an indispensible tool among physicians involved in musculoskeletal medicine in the last two decades, only recently has it become more attractive to pediatric rheumatologists. Thereafter, the use of MSUS in pediatric rheumatology has started to increase. Yet, an evergrowing body of literature shows parity and even superiority of MSUS when compared to physical examination and other imaging modalities. MSUS is suitable for examination of children of all ages and it has certain advantages over other imaging modalities; as it is cheaper, mobile, instantly accessible bedside, easy to combine with clinical assessment (interactivity) and non-invasive. It does not require sedation, which facilitates repetitive examinations. Assessment of multiple locations is possible during the same session. Agitation is rarely a problem and small children can be seated in their parents\u27 lap or they can even play while being examined. © 2011 Tok et al; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

    When Good Policies Go Bad: Controlling Risks Posed By Flawed Incentive-Based Compensation

    The recent Wells Fargo scandal revealed the harm that can result from flawed incentive-based compensation arrangements. Large financial institutions have both a legal and an ethical obligation to ensure that any incentive-based compensation arrangements that are in place will not encourage risky or fraudulent employee behavior. The continued existence of inappropriate and poorly structured arrangements demonstrates that existing regulations are inadequate to ensure compliance and protect consumers. Regulations should include increased penalties and should more evenly distribute the burden of oversight and compliance between the public and private sectors. In addition to regulatory reform, the government should prosecute culpable high-level executives more aggressively. Arguably, white-collar criminals are in a position to be more effectively deterred by the threat of incarceration than other types of criminals

    Defining Teachers’ Technostress Levels: A Scale Development

    With the integration of technology in recent years, use of technology has rapidly increased in educational system, and has become almost a must rather than an option. The use of technology in educational processes accompanies some adaptation issues due to the nature of technology (rapid development, cost, need for electricity, change of roles, etc.). An important professional group that has been affected from this process is teaching. The pressure on teachers results in a stress commonly referred as techno-stress. The purpose of the present study is developing a Likert-type scale called as “Teachers’ Techno-stress Levels Defining Scale (TTLDS)” intended for defining teachers’ techno-stress levels. In accordance with this purpose, data were collected from 395 teachers. The steps followed in the present scale development study respectively are; forming the theoretical framework and pool of items, getting expert opinion, and testing validity and reliability. To define factor structure for validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and item discrimination; and for reliability internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach Alpha) and split-halves reliability coefficient (Spearman-Brown) were calculated. Validity and reliability studies resulted in a 28-item, five-factor (“Learning-Teaching Process Oriented”, “Profession Oriented”, “Technical Issue Oriented”, “Personal Oriented”, and “Social Oriented”) scale. For reliability coefficients, Cronbach Alpha was calculated as 0.917, and Spearman-Brown was calculated as 0.845. Keywords: Technostress, Psychology, ICT use, Teachers

    Investigation and Optimization of Cutting Performance of High Chrome White Cast Iron by Wire Erosion

    Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) is an emerging approach to producing more accurate and precise complex products in the unconventional machining process. The WEDM process is affected by several process factors. Therefore, the appropriate combination of process factors is required to achieve economical and quality machining. Machining is very difficult due to the presence of chromium carbide in the structure of high-Cr white cast irons (HCCIs) with 12–17% Cr content in machining processes. Therefore, the machinability of HCCIs has always been a disadvantage. In this study, specially molded HCCIs samples were subjected to softening, casting (not heat treated) and hardened heat treatment processes, respectively. We aimed to experimentally investigated the changes in HCCIs samples characteristics, pulse on time, pulse of time, wire speed, and cutting performance in the WEDM process in this study. The L18 orthogonal array was used using the Taguchi method, and an experimental study was prepared. Afterward, an optimization study was carried out using mathematical models for WEDM with the help of performance outputs via ANOVA analysis. The experimental performances examined in this study are material removal rate and surface roughness. The experimental study determined that the material removal rate and surface roughness increased when the pulse on time increased. Later, machined samples morphological and structures properties were analyzed X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy, microhardness and surface roughness.     Comparison of Vinorelbine-Cisplatin with Gemcitabine-Cisplatin in Patients with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

    Purpose The objective of this trial was to compare cisplatin-plus-vinorelbine regimen with cisplatin-plus-gemcitabine regimen in patients with stage IIIB-IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients and Methods Chemonaive patients with stage IIIB-IV NSCLC received either vinoelbine 30 mg/m 2 (days 1 and 8) plus cisplatin 80 mg/m 2 (day 1) every 21 days (VC arm) or gemcitabine 1250 mg/m 2 (days 1 and 8) plus cisplatin 80 mg/m 2 (day 1) every 21 days (GC arm). Results One hundred thirtyfour patients (67 VC and 67 GC) were included to the study. Overall response rates for the VC arm (31.2%) were not significantly different from that of the GC arm (34.3%). There were no differences in overall survival and one-year survival rates. Median survival and one-year survival rates for the VC and GC groups were 10.6 and 11.5 months, 45% and 46.8%, respectively. Grade 3-4 thrombocytopenia was significantly higher on the GC arm (VC 1.4% v GC 8.9%, p < 0.05), as was febrile neutropenia on the VC arm (VC 8.9% v GC 1.4%, p < 0.05). Conclusion VC and GC demonstrated similar efficacy but there were differences in toxicity profiles

    Polyp in concha bullosa: a case report and review of the literature

    Polyp originating within a concha bullosa is uncommon; we report only the third such case in the English literature. A 45-year-old man presented with nasal obstruction and headache. Examination of the nose revealed right septal deviation and a hypertrophic left middle concha. Computed tomography confirmed right septal deviation and identified left concha bullosa with thickening of the mucosa covering this lesion. The lateral lamella of the affected turbinate was removed and a mass was excised. Histopathologic examination of the excised mass revealed polypoid hyperplasia. The rare finding of polyp in concha bullosa is discussed with a review of the literature. In any case of concha bullosa, computed tomography images should be carefully evaluated before surgery to check for other pathologies that might have arisen within the lesion
