A projekt célkitűzéseit sikerült megvalósítani. A négy év során több mint száz kiváló eredmény született, amiből eddig 84 dolgozat jelent meg a téma legkiválóbb folyóirataiban, mint Combinatorica, Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Journal of Graph Theory, Random Graphs and Structures, stb. | We managed to reach the goals of the project. We achieved more than one hundred excellent results, 84 of them appeared already in the most prestigious journals of the subject, like Combinatorica, Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Journal of Graph Theory, Random Graphs and Structures, etc. We proved several long standing conjectures, solved quite old open problems in the area of hypergraphs and related subjects. Some of the problems were open for many years, sometimes for decades. It is not a direct research result but kind of an evaluation too that a member of the team became a member of the Norvegian Royal Academy and won Steele Prize

    Epidemic spreading in evolving networks

A model for epidemic spreading on rewiring networks is introduced and analyzed for the case of scale free steady state networks. It is found that contrary to what one would have naively expected, the rewiring process typically tends to suppress epidemic spreading. In particular it is found that as in static networks, rewiring networks with degree distribution exponent γ>3\gamma >3 exhibit a threshold in the infection rate below which epidemics die out in the steady state. However the threshold is higher in the rewiring case. For 2<γ32<\gamma \leq 3 no such threshold exists, but for small infection rate the steady state density of infected nodes (prevalence) is smaller for rewiring networks.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure

The effect of network structure on phase transitions in queuing networks

Recently, De Martino et al have presented a general framework for the study of transportation phenomena on complex networks. One of their most significant achievements was a deeper understanding of the phase transition from the uncongested to the congested phase at a critical traffic load. In this paper, we also study phase transition in transportation networks using a discrete time random walk model. Our aim is to establish a direct connection between the structure of the graph and the value of the critical traffic load. Applying spectral graph theory, we show that the original results of De Martino et al showing that the critical loading depends only on the degree sequence of the graph -- suggesting that different graphs with the same degree sequence have the same critical loading if all other circumstances are fixed -- is valid only if the graph is dense enough. For sparse graphs, higher order corrections, related to the local structure of the network, appear.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure

A Magyarországon védett és vöröskönyves sisakos sáska (Acrida ungarica) egy-egy koráb- ban ismeretlen populációjára vonatkozó adatokat közlünk a Mecsekből és a Villányi-hegységből. A Mecsekben a fajnak eddig egyetlen adatát publikálták 1957-ben, míg a Villányi-hegységben két ismert lelőhelye volt, utolsó onnan közölt adata 1971-ből származik

Distribution of Edge Load in Scale-free Trees

Node betweenness has been studied recently by a number of authors, but until now less attention has been paid to edge betweenness. In this paper, we present an exact analytic study of edge betweenness in evolving scale-free and non-scale-free trees. We aim at the probability distribution of edge betweenness under the condition that a local property, the in-degree of the ``younger'' node of a randomly selected edge, is known. En route to the conditional distribution of edge betweenness the exact joint distribution of cluster size and in-degree, and its one dimensional marginal distributions have been presented in the paper as well. From the derived probability distributions the expectation values of different quantities have been calculated. Our results provide an exact solution not only for infinite, but for finite networks as well.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure

A pályázat résztvevői igen aktívak voltak a 2006-2008 években. Űj eredeményeink: Hereditary Property Testing, Inverse Counting Lemma and the Uniqueness of Hypergraph Limit. Hipergráfok, egyéb kombinatorika Új Sperner tipusú tételekte kaptunk, aszimptotikusan meghatározva a halmazok max számát bizonyos kizárt struktőrák esetén. Több esetre megoldottuk a kizárt hipergráf problémát is. Elméleti számítástudomány Új ujjlenyomat kódokat és bioinformatikai eredményeket kaptunk. | The participants of the project were scientifically very active during the years 2006-2008. They did not only obtain many results, which are contained in their more than 150 papers appeared in strong journals, but effectively disseminated them in the scientific community. They participated and gave lectures in more than 100 conferences (with multiplicity), half of them were plenary or invited talks. Traditional graph theory Several extremal problems for graphs were solved. We obtained new results for certain Ramsey numbers, (local and global) chromatic numbers, existence of Hamiltonian cycles crossing numbers, graph capacities, and excluded subgraphs. Random graphs, large graphs, regularity lemma The "similarities" of large graphs were studied. We show that several different definitions of the metrics (and convergence) are equivalent. Several new results like the Hereditary Property Testing, Inverse Counting Lemma and the Uniqueness of Hypergraph Limit were proved Hypergraphs, other combinatorics New Sperner type theorems were obtained, asymptotically determining the maximum number of sets in a family of subsets with certain excluded configurations. Several cases of the excluded hypergraph problem were solved. Theoretical computer science New fingerprint codes and results in bioinformatics were found
