Objective: In this retrospective study, we included 5257 healthy participants who admitted to Yozgat Government Hospital Blood Bank and Bozok University Blood Bank for several reasons to determine A, B, 0, AB blood groups and Rhesus (Rh) positivity ratios between January 2007 and April 2013. Methods: We recorded their blood group types, age and gender from the hospital data. 2430 females, 2827 males totally 5257 participants were included to our study. Results: 2330 (44.3%) persons were A blood group, 837 (15.9%) were B group, 1665 (31.7%) were 0 and 425 (%8.1) were AB group. Rh positivity ratio of our study group was 88%. Blood group frequency of Yozgat city is similar to other cities and the general population of our country, Turkey. Conclusion: Knowing the blood group is important for the blood recruitment in our region. J Clin Exp Invest 2014; 5 (2): 169-17

Analysis of lymphocyte subgroups in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever

SummaryObjectivesThis study examined the association between lymphocyte subgroups and mortality in patients with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in Turkey.MethodsDuring the spring and summer of 2007, peripheral blood was collected from hospitalized patients with suspected CCHF. Lymphocyte subgroups were characterized by fluorescence-activated cell sorting. CCHF cases were confirmed by detecting viral RNA by PCR and/or IgM antibodies by ELISA. Lymphocyte subgroups were compared between fatal and non-fatal cases. The correlation between lymphocyte subgroups and viral loads was also investigated.ResultsSeventy-seven confirmed cases of CCHF were included in this study (five cases were fatal (6.5 %)). No differences in lymphocyte subgroups were found between fatal and non-fatal cases, except for significantly higher CD3+CD8+ T cells in the fatal cases (p=0.017). A positive correlation between viral load and CD3+CD8+ T cells was also detected (p=0.044). There was no correlation between other lymphocyte subgroups and viral load.ConclusionsHigher levels of CD3+CD8+ T lymphocytes were detected in fatal compared to non-fatal CCHF cases. Despite this cytotoxic immune activation, a fatal outcome could not be prevented. We hypothesize that high viral load and other factors may influence this outcome, although more studies are required to explain the pathogenesis of CCHF

A Newborn with Congenital Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia After In Vitro Fertilization

Congenital leukemia is a rare disease. The majority of cases of this disease are acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Congenital acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is rare and most often is of B cell lineage. Rarely, some cases have been designated biphenotypic or mixed phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL). Herein, we report a preterm newborn referred to us as a result of the appearance of blue-violaceous dermal nodules on her body at birth. She was a twin and the product of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancy. Physical examination showed jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, and peripheral facial nerve palsy in addition to dermal nodules. Bone marrow aspiration showed 40% blasts of lymphoid lineage; skin biopsy and its immunohistochemistry revealed myeloblastic infiltration of the dermis. Cytogenetic analysis (46,XX), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis, and cranial magnetic resonance were normal. The patient was diagnosed with congenital MPAL, and an association between IVF and congenital leukemia was suggested

Serum copeptin level can be a helpful biomarker in evaluation of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy results

Background: Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) is a well-established diagnostic tool. The sensitivity and specificity of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) MPS to detect significant coronary lesion were 86% and 74%, respectively. The aim of this study was to examine the role of serum copeptin in evaluation of MPS. Methods: Sixty-two consecutive patients underwent both SPECT MPS using 99mTc-sestamibi and transthoracic echocardiography were enrolled prospectively. Age, gender, height, weight, presence of cardiovascular risk factors were recorded. Exercise treadmill test (ETT) with modified Bruce protocol was used to induce coronary ischemia during MPS. While performing MPS, blood samples for serum copeptin level were drawn three times at pre-exercise, at the peak of ETT, and 6 h after ETT, respectively. The patients were enrolled into three groups according to MPS results (normal, equivocal and ischemia). Results: The study included 62 patients (23 with normal, 20 with equivocal, 19 with ischemia on MPS). Pre-, peak-, and post-exercise B-type natriuretic peptide and troponin I values were similar across the groups (p > 0.05 for all comparisons). Serum copeptin values for pre- and peak-exercise were similar among all groups (p = 0.883 and p = 0.089). Post-exercise copeptin values of the normal and equivocal groups were similar (p = 0.661, z = –0.438) while that of the ischemia group was significantly higher than both the normal (p < 0.001) and equivocal group (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Serum copeptin was found to be increasing significantly in case of ischemia on MPS. It may be used in differentiation of equivocal results from false positive results.

Metinlerin açıklamalı dizini oluşturuldu.Çavdır ağzı, Türk dili tarihine ve Türk dili ve edebiyatı eğitimine katkı sağlayacak unsurlar barındırdığı için önemlidir.--------------------In this study, it is aimed to examine and evaluate the Çavdır region dialect in the context of Turkish language and literature by choosing two each villages, which are thought that have the best features of the dialect of the Çavdır district of Burdur province, from the east, west, north and south directions of Burdur province, in total eight villages. The study consists of six chapters. These: introduction, related researchs, method, findings, result and bibliography. The most important part is the findings section. In this section, after giving information about Çavdır, the words in the texts decrypted by compiling were examined phonological and morphological. Deciphered texts were given. Annotated index of texts was created.Çavdır dialect is important because it contains elements that will contribute to the history of Turkish language and education of Turkish language and literature
