Spin correlations among the charge carriers in an ordered stripe phase
We have observed a diffuse component to the low-energy magnetic excitation
spectrum of stripe-ordered La5/3Sr1/3NiO4 probed by neutron inelastic
scattering. The diffuse scattering forms a square pattern with sides parallel
and perpendicular to the stripe directions. The signal is dispersive, with a
maximum energy of ~10 meV. Probed at 2 meV the scattering decreases in strength
with increasing temperature, and is barely visible at 100 K. We argue that the
signal originates from dynamic, quasi- one-dimensional, antiferromagnetic

Magnetic-field-induced spin excitations and renormalized spin gap of the underdoped superconductor LaSrCuO
High-resolution neutron inelastic scattering experiments in applied magnetic
fields have been performed on LaSrCuO (LSCO). In zero
field, the temperature dependence of the low-energy peak intensity at the
incommensurate momentum-transfer $\mathbf{Q}^{\
}_{\mathrm{IC}}=(0.5,0.5\pm\delta,0),(0.5\pm\delta,0.5,0)T^{\}_{c}$ which broadens and shifts to lower
temperature upon the application of a magnetic field along the c-axis. A
field-induced enhancement of the spectral weight is observed, but only at
finite energy transfers and in an intermediate temperature range. These
observations establish the opening of a strongly downward renormalized spin gap
in the underdoped regime of LSCO. This behavior contrasts with the observed

The Business-Society Nexus for the 21st Century
Eurocentric academic and policy propositions on global sustainability tend to emphasize the transfer of knowledge, skills, technology, funds, or social values to lower and middle income countries. Yet, India and China increasingly influence geo-economic and geo-political shifts, accompanied by sociocultural and environmental consequences. Their increasing independence and global agenda setting capacity, as well as their capabilities to institutionally coordinate and execute programs toward economic and social development within and well beyond their national borders transcend the current imaginaries of most stakeholders from higher income countries. Although we are witnessing a transformation of the business-society nexus and its consequences on public, private, and civic spheres, research in particular and academia more generally have been slow to acknowledge and respond to these paradigm shifts. The importance to understand and to be understood by India and China, however, can no longer be ignored. Globally, businesses, societies, and governments must find new ways of interacting in the interest of mutual survival and prosperity. But what does this mean in practice? What could be a sustainable business-society nexus for the 21st century? In this paper, we examine the opportunities and challenges inherent in emerging trends and the positions stakeholders and contemporary academic disciplines take in relation to these. We outline the potential for a future research agenda on a sustainable business-society nexus that is business-relevant, solution-driven, future-oriented, culture-sensitive, and devoted to people, planet, prosperity, partnerships, and peace
Coexistence of Haldane gap excitations and long range antiferromagnetic order in mixed-spin nickelates R_2 Ba Ni O_5
The spin dynamics of the S=1 Ni-chains in mixed-spin antiferromagnets Pr_2 Ba
Ni O_5 and Nd_x Y_2-x Ba Ni O_5 is described in terms of a simple
Ginzburg-Landau Lagrangian coupled to the sublattice of rare-earth ions. Within
this framework we obtain a theoretical explanation for the experimentally
observed coexistence of Haldane gap excitations and long-range magnetic order,
as well as for the increase of the Haldane gap energy below the Neel point. We
also predict that the degeneracy of the Haldane triplet is lifted in the
magnetically ordered phase. The theoretical results are consistent with the

The critical behavior of frustrated spin models with noncollinear order
We study the critical behavior of frustrated spin models with noncollinear
order, including stacked triangular antiferromagnets and helimagnets. For this
purpose we compute the field-theoretic expansions at fixed dimension to six
loops and determine their large-order behavior. For the physically relevant
cases of two and three components, we show the existence of a new stable fixed
point that corresponds to the conjectured chiral universality class. This
contradicts previous three-loop field-theoretical results but is in agreement

Nature of the magnetic order in the charge-ordered cuprate La1.48Nd0.4Sr0.12CuO4
Using polarized neutron scattering we establish that the magnetic order in La1.48Nd0.4Sr0.12CuO4 is either (i) one dimensionally modulated and collinear, consistent with the stripe model or (ii) two dimensionally modulated with a novel noncollinear structure. The measurements rule out a number of alternative models characterized by 2D electronic order or 1D helical spin order. The low-energy spin excitations are found to be primarily transversely polarized relative to the stripe ordered state, consistent with conventional spin waves
New high magnetic field phase of the frustrated chain compound LiCuVO
Magnetization of the frustrated chain compound LiCuVO, focusing
on high magnetic field phases, is reported. Besides a spin-flop transition and
the transition from a planar spiral to a spin modulated structure observed
recently, an additional transition was observed just below the saturation
field. This newly observed magnetic phase is considered as a spin nematic
phase, which was predicted theoretically but was not observed experimentally.
The critical fields of this phase and its dM/dH curve are in good agreement
with calculations performed in a microscopic model (M. E. Zhitomirsky and H.
Tsunetsugu, preprint, arXiv:1003.4096v2).Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
On the 3-particle scattering continuum in quasi one dimensional integer spin Heisenberg magnets
We analyse the three-particle scattering continuum in quasi one dimensional
integer spin Heisenberg antiferromagnets within a low-energy effective field
theory framework. We exactly determine the zero temperature dynamical structure
factor in the O(3) nonlinear sigma model and in Tsvelik's Majorana fermion
theory. We study the effects of interchain coupling in a Random Phase
Approximation. We discuss the application of our results to recent

Neutron scattering study of the field-induced soliton lattice in CuGeO
CuGeO undergoes a transition from a spin-Peierls phase to an
incommensurate phase at a critical field of T. In the
high-field phase a lattice of solitons forms, with both structural and magnetic
components, and these have been studied using neutron scattering techniques.
Our results provide direct evidence for a long-ranged magnetic soliton
structure which has both staggered and uniform magnetizations, and with
amplitudes that are broadly in accord with theoretical estimates. The magnetic
soliton width, , and the field dependence of the incommensurability,

Spin Density Wave in Insulating Ferromagnetic Frustrated Chain LiCuVO
We study field induced quantum phase in weakly-coupled ferromagnetic
frustrated chain LiCuVO by neutron diffraction technique. A new
incommensurate magnetic peak is observed at T. The field dependent
propagation vector is identified with the spin density wave correlation in the
theoretically predicted magnetic quadrupole order. Quantum fluctuation,
geometrical frustration, and interchain interaction induce the exotic spin
density wave long-range order in the insulating magnet
