Five-Dimensional BF Theory and Four-Dimensional Current Algebra

    Get PDF
We consider the relation between the five-dimensional BF model and a four-dimensional local current algebra from the point of view of perturbative local quantum field theory. We use an axial gauge fixing procedure and show that it allows for a well defined theory which actually can be solved exactly.Comment: 15 pages LaTeX file +3 Figures in TexDraw (available from hep-th) LATEX-compatibility Bug fixe

A comparison of the finite difference and finite element methods for heat transfer calculations

    Get PDF
The finite difference method and finite element method for heat transfer calculations are compared by describing their bases and their application to some common heat transfer problems. In general it is noted that neither method is clearly superior, and in many instances, the choice is quite arbitrary and depends more upon the codes available and upon the personal preference of the analyst than upon any well defined advantages of one method. Classes of problems for which one method or the other is better suited are defined

Internal structure of preformed Cooper pairs

In order to obtain information about the internal structure of the preformed pairs in the pseudogap state of high TcT_c superconductors, we calculate the propagator of a singlet pair with center of mass coordinate r\mathbf{r}, and relative distance ρ\pmb{\rho}, by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation, representing the sum over repeated two-particle scattering events due to a distance dependent attraction. We define then a ``pair structure function'' gP(P,ρ)g_{P}(\mathbf{P},\pmb{\rho}) that depends on the internal distance ρ\pmb{\rho} between the partners and on the momentum P\mathbf{P} of the pair. We calculate this function both for a local potential and ss-wave symmetry of the order parameter and for a separable potential and dd-wave symmetry of the order parameter. The influence of the center of mass momentum, strenght of the interaction, temperature, density of particles and of the pseudogap in the one-electron spectrum is studied for both cases.Comment: 12 pages, REVTeX4, 8 EPS figure

Exact Results for 1D Kondo Lattice from Bosonization

We find a solvable limit to the problem of the 1D electron gas interacting with a lattice of Kondo scattering centers. In this limit, we present exact results for the problems of incommensurate filling, commensurate filling, impurity vacancy states, and the commensurate-incommensurate transition.Comment: 4 pages, two columns, Latex fil

    Attracting and Retaining Hospitality Employees

    Get PDF
Management, recruiting, and retention techniques are critical to the hospitality industry. In surveys and interviews of both employees and employers, employees responded that job referrals by friends, family and current employees were a primary way of obtaining their jobs, while employers indicated help want ads as a primary means to recruit. The study found that many employees enjoyed their work, respected their managers, and were generally satisfied with the benefit

Interactive computation of radiation view factors

    Get PDF
The development of a pair of computer programs to calculate the radiation exchange view factors is described. The surface generation program is based upon current graphics capabilities and includes special provisions which are unique to the radiation problem. The calculational program uses a combination of contour and double area integration to permit consideration of radiation with obstruction surfaces. Examples of the surface generation and the calculation are given

Landau theory of phase separation in cuprates

I discuss the problem of phase separation in cuprates from the point of view of the Landau theory of Fermi liquids. I calculate the rate of growth of unstable regions for the hydrodymanics and collisionless limit and, in presence of long range Coulomb interactions, the size of these regions. These are analytic results valid for any strength of the Landau parameters.Comment: RevteX, preprint ITP (1994
