    Cilia Transport for Micropolar Fluid Through a Uniform Cylindrical Tube

    The aim of this work is to study the role that the cilia motion plays in the transport of a micropolar fluid in a uniform cylindrical tube. The transport due to systems of beating cilia is responsible for the transport of bio-fluids in numerous physiological processes. Cylindrical coordinates are used to formulate the system of equations with the suitable boundary conditions governing the flow. Such system is then simplified through considering the long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. Solutions are found for the velocity components, the pressure gradient, and the stream function which include many parameters such as the cilia length parameter, the eccentricity parameter of the elliptical motion and the wave number. The results shows that the pumping machinery functions more efficiently to push ahead micropolar fluid than Newtonian fluid. The obtained results may help to understand more the processes of the transport of bio-fluids in human body

    Effects of gamma irradiation on salted and frozen mullet fish during storage period

    The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of gamma irradiation on decontamination of microbial loud of salted and frozen mullet fish. Mullet fish samples were divided into two groups: The first group was frozen at – 20C° and the second group was dry salted with ordinary commercial refined salt at ratio 1 kg fish / 0.8 kg. Each group was subjected to 0, 2.5 and 5 kGy of gamma irradiation doses before storage period. The results showed that, gamma irradiation hadn’t any significant (P?0.05) effects on the chemical composition and minerals content of mullet fish samples under investigation. Gamma irradiation doses (2.5 and 5.0 kGy) had not significant remarkable effect at P?0.05 on sensory properties (appearance, odor, texture and color) of dry and frozen mullet fish samples neither at zero time nor during storage periods. Microbial aspects (total bacterial counts, coliform bacteria, salmonella, sporeforming bacteria and total molds and yeasts) were detected. Also it could be concluded that, gamma irradiation had a significant (P?0.05) decrease effects on microbial loud and improve the microbiological safety of salted and frozen mullet fishes without any adverse effects on their chemical contents and quality.     In the title compound, C14H13N3OS2, the thio­phene ring is disordered over two orientations by ca 180° about the C—C bond axis linking the ring to the rest of the mol­ecule, with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.651 (5):0.349 (5). The central 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2(3H)-thione ring forms dihedral angles of 9.2 (5), 4.6 (11) and 47.70 (7)° with the major and minor parts of the disordered thio­phene ring and the terminal phenyl ring, respectively. In the crystal, no significant inter­molecular hydrogen bonds are observed. The crystal packing is stabilized by π–π inter­actions [centroid–centroid distance = 3.589 (2) Å]

    Accidental Death of Construction Worker due to Unintended Nail Gun Discharge: a Case Report

    Background: In spite of being rare, intracranial nail gun injury represents one of the fatal penetrating head injuries.Case Report: Here we report a case of intracranial nail gun injury in a 28 years old well-trained construction worker who left the electric nail gun on the edge of the window to pick up one of his tools from the ground. Unfortunately, his leg got entangled in the nail gun cable and thus the nail gun dropped on the ground firing a nail that killed the worker.Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this first time death from nail gun injury is reported in the Arab world; although, there are previous reports of survivable nail gun cardiac injuries and cranial injuries from Saudi Arabia. Thus, it is important to raise public awareness about such cases in order to reduce the occurrence of nail gun injuries. Moreover, health and safety inspections mandated and supported by law, might be much more effective in reducing such injuries

    Study of urinary leukotriene E4 in atopic dermatitis: relation to disease severity

    Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease prevalent in patients with a personal or family history of atopy. Cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTs) are inflammatory mediators which play a role in the pathogenesis of atopic diseases. Urinary leukotriene E4 (LTE4) has been used as an index of the whole body cysteinyl LTs production. Objective: This study was meant to evaluate the importance of LTs in atopic dermatitis (AD) and to study the correlation of urinary LTE4 with disease severity and some commonly altered parameters in AD. Methods: The study included 30 children and adolescents diagnosed to have atopic dermatitis. Ten age and sex matched healthy children and adolescents were enrolled for comparison. They were subjected to clinical evaluation and measurement of urinary LTE4, absolute eosinophilic count, serum IgE and IL-4 and IL-5 in peripheral blood mononuclear cell culture (PBMC) supernatant. The patients were categorized into mild (n=5), moderate (n=16) and severe (n=9) AD subgroups. Results: The study revealed a significant increase in absolute eosinophilic count, urinary LTE4, serum IgE and IL-4 and IL-5 in PBMC culture supernatant in the patients as compared to controls. Moreover, urinary LTE4 levels were significantly increased in moderate and severe cases of AD as compared to the control group, whereas mild cases had levels that were comparable to the controls. Urinary LTE4 levels were higher in severe (p < 0.01) and moderate cases (p < 0.05) when compared to mild cases. Significant positive correlations could be elicited between urinary LTE4 and PBMC IL-4, disease severity scale, absolute eosinophilic count and serum total IgE. However, urinary LTE4 could not be correlated statistically with PBMC IL-5. Conclusion: Elevation in urinary LTE4 excretion in AD patients was demonstrated reflecting increased production of cysteinyl LTs. Urinary LTE4 was correlated to clinical and laboratory markers of severity suggesting that it could be an easy, non invasive and objective prognostic test in AD.     ICI and PAPR enhancement in MIMO-OFDM system using RNS coding

    The Inter-Carrier-Interference (ICI) is considered a bottleneck in the utilization of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems, due to the sensitivity of the OFDM towards frequency offsets which lead to loss of orthogonality, interference and performance degradation. In this paper Residue Numbers as a coding scheme is impeded in MIMO-OFDM systems, where the ICI levels is measured and evaluated with respect to conventional ICI mitigation techniques implemented in MIMO-OFDM. The Carrier-to-Interference Ratio (CIR), the system Bit-Error-Rate (BER) and the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) for MIMO-OFDM system with Residue Number System (RNS) coding are analyzed and evaluated.     Performance Enhancement of MIMO-OFDM using Redundant Residue Number System

    Telecommunication industry requires high capacity networks with high data rates which are achieved through utilization of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) communication along with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system. Still, the communication channel suffers from noise, interference or distortion due to hardware design limitations, and channel environment, and to combat these challenges, and achieve enhanced performance; various error control techniques are implemented to enable the receiver to detect any possible received errors and correct it and thus; for a certain transmitted signal power the system would have lower Bit Error Rate (BER). The provided research focuses on Redundant Residue Number System (RRNS) coding as a Forward Error Correction (FEC) scheme that improves the performance of MIMO-OFDM based wireless communications in comparison with current methods as Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) coders at the transmitter side or equalizers at receiver side. The Bit Error Rate (BER) performance over the system was measured using MATLAB tool for different simulated channel conditions, including the effect of signal amplitude reduction and multipath delay spreading. Simulation results had shown that RRNS coding scheme provides an enhancement in system performance over conventional error detection and correction coding schemes by utilizing the distinct features of Residue Number System (RNS)
