Stated versus inferred beliefs: A methodological inquiry and experimental test

    Get PDF
If asking subjects their beliefs during repeated game play changes the way those subjects play, using those stated beliefs to evaluate and compare theories of strategic behavior is problematic. We experimentally verify that belief elicitation can alter paths of play in a repeated asymmetric matching pennies game. In this setting, belief elicitation improves the goodness of fit of structural models of belief learning, and the prior beliefs implied by such structural models are both stronger and more realistic when beliefs are elicited than when they are not. These effects are, however, confined to the player type who sees a strong asymmetry between payoff possibilities for her two strategies in the game. We also find that “inferred beliefs” (beliefs estimated from past observed actions of opponents) can be better predictors of observed actions than the “stated beliefs” resulting from belief elicitation.beliefs; stated beliefs; belief elicitation; inferred beliefs; estimated beliefs; belief updating; repeated games; experimental methods

The aim of this research was to investigate the availability and uptake of phosphate with the application of potassium and phosphate fertilizers in brunizem soil. The experiment was arranged in a factorial completely Randomized Design which tested various levels of KCl (no calium, 0.2 g/5 kg soil and 0.4 g/5 kg soil) and SP-36 (no fosfat, 0.35 g/5 kg soil and 0.70 g/5 kg soil) fertilizers. The result showed a significant effect of potassium fertilizer treatments on soil pH. The best rate of potassium fertilizer was 0.4 g KCl per pot or 160 kg KCl ha-1. Phosphate fertilizer treatment gave a significant effect on soil pH, available phosphate and phosphate uptake. The best rate of phosphate fertilization was 0.70 g SP-36 per pot or 240 kg SP-36 ha-1

Trusting the Unseen: Hannah and Embodied Prayer

Both Mystical Judaic teachings and Body-Mind Centering discuss the spiritual and psychological meanings of the body‘s organs, beyond their physical function. Using the biblical story of Hannah‘s prayer as a starting point, this thesis discusses each discipline‘s approach to the organs, with a specific focus on the heart and lungs, and investigates how these can be used as tools toward body and soul integration. The body and the journey of embodiment, central to dance/movement therapy, allow access to the experience of the organs as performing vital physical functions, providing meaningful structural support, opening a gateway into the emotional world and the possibility of touching upon the more esoteric and spiritual aspects of experience

Effects of an Impaired Sonic Hedgehog Signaling Pathway and a Nonfunctional Gli3 Protein on GnRH-1 Neuronal Migration in Gli3Xt/Xt mutants

Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) is the master regulatory hormone for sexual development. During embryonic development, gonadotropin releasing hormone-1 neurons (GnRH-1ns) form in the olfactory pit and migrate, along axonal Peripherin positive fibers, from the nasal area to the pre-optic area of the basal forebrain. Upon migration into the brain, GnRH-1ns release GnRH. Defective migration of GnRH-1ns can result in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH), a condition that results in lack of sexual development and infertility. When HH appears associated with reduced or absent sense of smell, it is clinically defined as Kallmann Syndrome (KS) (Paolo E Forni & Wray, 2015). The neurons that connect the nasal area to the basal forebrain and the molecular mechanisms that control GnRH-1 neuronal migration are still largely unknown. Sonic hedgehog (Shh) plays important roles in modulating cell motility and reactivity to chemorepellants. Gli3 is a transcriptional effector; it can act as either a transcriptional activator or repressor, mediated by the Shh signaling pathway. We found that Patched- 2, a receptor for Shh, is expressed along the GnRH-1 migratory pathway. To understand if Shh and Gli3 play a role in GnRH-1 development, we analyzed GnRH-1 migration in Gli3Xt/Xt mouse mutants. In these mutants, we observed a dramatic reduction in the number of GnRH-1ns able to migrate form the nasal area into the brain. In Gli3Xt/Xt mutants, GnRH-1ns were found proximal to the vomeronasal organ forming tangles with a subset of Peripherin positive fibers, which were found to extend as far as the forebrain junction, where they also tangle in response to the lack of olfactory bulbs. Our data suggests that the loss of function of the Gli3 gene impairs the formation of the GnRH-1 migratory scaffold and GnRH-1 migratory ability. These observations indicate that Gli3 is a candidate gene for the etiology of HH

The study of land suitability for food crops in Nekan village, entikong sub-district, Sanggau district, West Kalimantan province aims to analyze land suitability and limiting factors as well as efforts made to improve land suitability classes. This research was conducted from May to October 2018 in Nekan village, Entikong sub-district, Sanggau district, West Kalimantan province using a land survey method. The results of the study stated that the land suitability class for maize plants was S3 wa, r, nr with rainfall limiting factors, phosphorus and potassium, for cassava plants were S3 na, eh with slope limiting factors and Potassium. For sweet potato plants is S3 wa, na with limiting factors of water availability and nutrients. For peanut plants, namely N wa with a rainfall limiting factor. Improvement efforts made for maize plants include making drainage, liming, fertilizing SP-36 and KCl. Plant cassava by making a terrace and planting according to the contour lines and fertilizing KCl. Sweet potato plants, make draenase and fertilize Potassium and peanut plants by making draenase and arranging planting tim

PRINCIPLE OF OPENNESS: SOCIAL EFFECTS OF RECKLESS LEGAL CHANGES IN THE POLISH LEGAL SYSTEM

Polish civil procedure has recently suffered from reckless legislative changes. At the same time, the protractedness of proceedings in Poland reach its peak: the simplest cases are being handled for years. The Polish legislature, looking for solutions, increasingly seeks to speed up proceedings at the expense of the guiding principles of civil procedure, including the principle of openness. This results in a demolition of many institutions of civil procedure that have taken years to shape. The paper presents an analysis of the changes that have taken place with regard to the principle of openness in civil proceedings, as well as the dilemmas that have arisen due to the restriction of openness. The considerations revolve around the subject of the guiding principles of the trial, in particular the principle of openness, the institutions that limit the principle of openness, and the conflict between the principle of openness and the demand for fast proceedings. The basic question is: how will ill-considered changes to the openness of proceedings affect citizens' perception of the judiciary? What will be social effects of reckless legal changes in order to speed up proceedings
