Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder of the central nervous system

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) involves uncommon, severe complications following the transplantation of solid organs, bone marrow and stem cells. Despite comprising mainly lymphoid proliferations that are predominantly driven by lymphotropic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections, PTLD often displays substantial morphologic heterogeneity that can pose diagnostic challenges. With the steady increase in transplantations accompanied by potent immunosuppressive therapy, it is important to heighten awareness of this entity among clinicians and pathologists. In comparison to systemic PTLD, cases that primarily manifest in the central nervous system (CNS) are reported to be more severe and to exhibit unique characteristics. So far, only isolated cases and small series have been reported describing CNS involvement in PTLD. In this article, we review the current knowledge, focusing on the histopathological features of primary CNS lymphoproliferative disorders following organ transplantation

Digitale Teilhabe

Das Themenheft Digitale Teilhabe beschäftigt sich zentral mit den Potentialen der Nutzung der neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien durch benachteiligte Menschen. Im Leitartikel wird der Versuch unternommen, mögliche theoretische Anknüpfungspunkte und Forschungsfragen für weitere Studien- und Forschungsarbeiten in dem noch jungen Themenfeld der Digitalen Teilhabe zu identifizieren. Hierzu wird zunächst das zugrunde liegende Verständnis von Behinderung/Benachteiligung diskutiert und inklusive (Medien-)Bildung als Teil der Persönlichkeitsbildung skizziert. In verschiedenen Diskursen bzw. Disziplinen werden dann theoretische Anknüpfungspunkte für weitere Forschungsarbeiten benannt. Die Idee für das Themenheft ist im Rahmen des Projekts "Begleitforschung im PIKSL-Labor" des Zentrums für Planung und Evaluation Sozialer Dienste der Uni Siegen (ZPE) entstanden. Das PIKSL-Projekt zielt darauf ab, Menschen mit Behinderungen moderne Kommunikationstechnologien zugänglich zu machen, um ihnen Teilhabemöglichkeiten zu erleichtern und zugleich die personale Abhängigkeit von professioneller Unterstützung zu reduzieren. Der inter- und transdisziplinäre Ansatz von PIKSL wird durch die Vielfalt der Artikel in dem Heft deutlich: Digitale Teilhabe wird nicht alleine aus (medien-)pädagogischer bzw. sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive betrachtet. Die Besonderheit liegt in der Kooperation unterschiedlicher Disziplinen wie Soziale Arbeit, Kunst und Webdesign

Essays in corporate finance and financial intermediation

This thesis consists of three chapters in corporate finance and financial intermediation. The first two chapters explore sources of incentives and learning for finance professionals. Specifically, the first chapter studies how the option to go work for an investment bank affects the incentives of credit rating analysts, and shows that this "revolving door" strengthens analysts' incentives to issue accurate ratings. The second chapter analyzes the value of experience for mutual fund managers and identifies on-the-job learning as a first-order driver of observed fund manager skill. The third chapter investigates the effects of limited attention by institutional shareholders on corporate decision-making

Performing Manuscript Culture : Poetry, Materiality, and Authorship in Thomas Hoccleve’s "Regement of Princes" /

This study conceives of Thomas Hoccleve’s Regement of Princes (1410-1413) as an essentially performative text, one that expresses its awareness of the manuscript culture in which it is so firmly rooted. The openness of manuscripts is a recurring subject in the Regement and is not only expressed through mere descriptions of, but through complex references to this manuscript context. Performances of manuscript culture manifest themselves in several aspects of the text. The first is the narrator persona, and especially the question of how persona and text are intertwined. The second is the constantly recurring interpretation of "es from authoritative sources that pervades the Regement. This urge to interpret is expressed both in the tradition of adding marginal glosses and in the process of subjecting the text to an exegetical reading. The third aspect is the relation between text and images in the Regement’s manuscripts, which shows how mediality is performed and how the manuscript context is made the focus of this performance. Attracting the sharks: Corporate innovation and securities class action lawsuits

This paper provides novel evidence suggesting that securities class action lawsuits, a central pillar of the U.S. litigation and corporate governance system, can constitute an obstacle to valuable corporate innovation. We first establish that valuable innovation output makes firms particularly vulnerable to costly low-quality class action litigation. Exploiting judge turnover in federal courts, we then show that changes in class action litigation risk affect the value and number of patents filed, suggesting firms take into account that risk in their innovation decisions. Our results challenge the widely held view that greater failure propensity of innovative firms drives their litigation risk
