La grammatica lulliana dal trivium all’Arte

The grammar plays a marginal role in the process of re-foundation of knowledge that Ramon Llull engages since 1290. While rhetoric and logic are the subject of two specific works (Rhetorica nova of 1301 and Logica nova of 1303), the grammar is probed through the artistic principles only in Ars Generalis Ultima (1305-8) within the ‘Hundred forms’. The paper traces the stages of this inclusion through the definitions given in the Lullian corpus, discusses the hypothesis of a speculative orientation of the discipline and underlines the importance of 'declinare' as the basis of analogy between the grammar’s modi and correlative principles that structure the dynamic ontology of Art. The findings show that grammar is another chapter of the "dispersed" Lullian philosophy of language, far from the articulation and purposes of the Modistic model

Dalla sensibilità all’intelletto: osservazioni sull’allegoria nel Llibre de contemplació

[eng]Interpretations of chapters 352-357 of the Llibre de Contemplació have given a privileged place to the role of allegory according to the sense codified in rhetoric and Biblical hermeneutics. Following Lullian indications one sees that this is only one component of a new interpretative, demonstrative and compositional method developed in this section, a method which Llull insistently qualifies as moral. The polysemy of this word is based on the connection with exegesis (exposició moral is identified with topology; exposició moral entel·lectual includes all the superior senses as well as the literal one), on the operations of the powers and morality understood as the exercise of the vices and the virtues. In designing the path leading to contemplation, Llull has recourse to contemporary terminology, submitting it, however, to a constant translation with regard either to the signification, by means of definitions, or to the use of concrete applications. Instead of a “theory and practice of allegory” we should speak of “a theory and practice of an art moral” which finds its basic foundation in analogy.[ita]La lettura dei capitoli 352-357 del Llibre de contemplació ha privilegiato il ruolo dell’allegoria, intesa secondo l’accezione codificata nella retorica e nell’ermeneutica biblica. Seguendo le indicazioni lulliane, si osserva che essa è solo una componente del nuovo metodo interpretativo, dimostrativo e compositivo elaborato in questa sezione, un metodo che Llull qualifica costantemente come moral. Sulla polisemia di questa parola si fonda il raccordo tra esegesi (con exposició moral si identifica la topologia; exposició moral entel·lectual comprende tutti i sensi superiori a quello letterale), operazioni delle potenze e morale intesa come esercizio dei vizi e delle virtù. Nel disegnare il percorso che porta alla contemplazione, Llull ricorre anche alla terminologia coeva sottoponendola però a una traduzione costante che riguarda sia il significato, attraverso le definizioni, sia l’applicazione concreta. In luogo di una “teoria e pratica dell’allegoria” dovremmo parlare di “una teoria e pratica dell’art moral” che ha nell’analogia il proprio fondamento

Tradizione e traduzione nel corpus lulliano

Il tema della lingua degli originali lulliani, evocato in passato per avvalorare l'immagine di Llull padre della lingua catalana, mantiene la sua centralità per la critica testuale, per la storia della lingua e per la teoria della traduzione nel Medioevo. Oggi è possibile combinare i dati della tradizione con quelli relativi ai luoghi di stesura e ai tempi di composizione grazie al Llull DB e al procedere delle edizioni critiche. Nella parte introduttiva di questo lavoro si delineano i problemi posti dal peculiare intreccio fra tradizione e traduzione nel corpus lulliano. Di seguito si presenta l’intero catalogo delle opere, indicando per ciascuna le versioni esistenti e, quando possibile, la lingua dell’originale. A partire dalla discussione dei dati, si evidenziano le strategie di breve e di lungo periodo adottate dal Beato e i loro possibili effetti sulla fruizione successiva dell’Arte. La scelta netta a favore del latino, almeno dal 1303 in poi, si riverbera sull’intero corpus, restituendoci per le opere tecnico-artistiche un’esile tradizione volgare. Llull applica all’Arte un lavorìo esegetico e traduttivo di solito riservato alle auctoritates ma, in quanto autorità vivente e pragmatica, dà origine a una tradizione dinamica che pone nuove sfide agli editori. Il plurilinguismo, le possibili varianti redazionali inter- o intralinguistiche, la contaminazione fra le versioni di una stessa opera avvenute in tempi successivi, sollecitano degli interrogativi metodologici simili a quelli posti dalle opere volgari tecnico-scientifiche e devozionali di grande diffusione europea presso il pubblico laico

Numeri per argomentare: strategie di dispositio nelle produzioni scritte degli studenti universitari

This paper concerns text organization and the signalling of its arrangement in parts. Drawing on text linguistics and combining a qualitative and a quantitative description, it explores the use of enumerative markers as linguistic devices of discursive structure, adopted by Italian second-year university students while fulfilling a timed writing task. More precisely, the paper presents a corpus-based analysis, focusing on textual segments opened by two types of enumerative markers: in primo luogo (in the first place) and in primis. The occurrences are extracted from UniverS-ITA, a corpus made by a total of 2016 students’ written texts (813,000 words). The paper aims at documenting and characterizing, on a qualitative level, the functioning of numerical sequencers (or ordinatori numerici del discorso), mainly drawing on textual scope, i.e. their effect on the textual segments involved. Findings suggest that the strategy most applied by students in the process of writing is an additive one, also emphasized by the frequent use of inoltre (moreover), whereas the homogenous series introduced by a marker acting as a trigger are rather scarce. Nevertheless, some attempts to give a linear ordering to the contents occur. Besides their descriptive value, these findings present relevant implications for teaching and learning academic writing at universities

La multiforme vita del "troll" : provocatore, flamer o dissidente?

Il termine troll indica in internet un soggetto che intende disturbare le conversazioni altrui con azioni provocatorie, insensate o offensive. L'articolo, dopo una panoramica sull'origine del termine e sulla letteratura scientifica relativa a diversi ambienti, analizza gli usi della parola e dei suoi derivati all'interno di un gruppo Facebook, La Gastrite di Shy, soffermandosi in particolare sui contesti in cui co-occorrono l'insulto e l'accusa di trolling. I risultati dell'indagine, relativi a un momento particolare della vita della community, confermano, nel complesso, quanto rilevato dagli studi sul tema: l'azione e la percezione del troll sono contestuali e difficilmente generalizzabili. Esiste infatti un uso del termine che risponde alla necessità di delimitare i confini (ideologici, linguistici, culturali) di un gruppo, di ribadire o modulare i suoi criteri di inclusione ed esclusione. L'evocazione sulla scena di un troll, reale o presunto, può essere l'effetto di una provocazione palese o il sintomo delle difficoltà che una comunità incontra nel gestire il dissenso.The term troll indicates on the internet a subject who intends to disrupt other people's conversations with provocative, senseless or offensive actions. The article, after an overview of the origin of the term and the scientific literature relating to different digital environments, analyzes the uses of the word and its derivatives within a Facebook group, La Gastrite di Shy, focusing on the contexts in which the insult and the accusation of trolling co-occur. The survey results, relating to a particular moment in the life of the community, confirm, on the whole, what has been revealed by the studies on the topic: the action and perception of the troll are contextual and difficult to generalize. In fact, there is a use of the term that responds to the need to delimit the group boundaries (ideological, linguistic, cultural), to reiterate or modulate its inclusion and exclusion criteria. The evocation on the scene of a troll, real or presumed, can be the effect of a blatant provocation or a symptom of the difficulties that a community encounters in managing dissent

La grammatica ha un ruolo marginale nel progetto di rifondazione dei saperi che impegna Llull fin dal 1290. Mentre retorica e logica sono oggetto di due opere specifiche (Rhetorica nova del 1301 e Logica nova del 1303), la grammatica viene sondata attraverso i principi artistici solo nell'Ars generali ultima (1305-8) all'interno delle 'Cento forme'. L'articolo ripercorre le tappe di questa inclusione attraverso le definizioni della grammatica offerte dal corpus lulliano, discute l'ipotesi di un orientamento speculativo della disciplina ed evidenzia l'importanza del declinare come fondamento dell'analogia tra i modi della grammatica e i principi correlativi che strutturano l'ontologia dinamica dell'Arte. Fibrotic lung toxicity induced by cytotoxic drugs, radiation and immunotherapy in patients treated for lung cancer

Patients treated for lung cancer may develop lung toxicity induced by chemotherapy (DILD), radiation or combined radiation recall pneumonitis. In the literature, some cases of immune-mediated pneumonitis have been reported associated with immunotherapy. The clinical and radiologic features of interstitial lung toxicity are unspecific, dyspnoea and dry cough are the most common symptoms while the most frequent radiological pattern is the cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP). Why only some individuals treated with these drugs develop interstitial lung toxicity is unclear.In the last few years some studies have reported the utility of KL 6 for the evaluation of DILD. The treatment is based on high doses of systemic steroids or immune suppressor. In this study we report severe interstitial lung damage in patients treated with different anti-blastic, immune and radiation therapies. Treated with surgery, chemotherapy, immuno and radiotherapy for lung cancer, they unfortunately died of severe DILD
