    Conocimientos y actitudes hacia la sexualidad y educación sexual en docentes de colegios públicos

    En ese artículo se presentan los resultados de un estudio de conocimientos y actitudes en sexualidad y en educación sexual dirigido a docentes de 17 colegios públicos de la ciudad de Cuenca-Ecuador. Se evaluó el impacto de un curso de capacitación sobre sexualidad que fue planificado por el proyecto VLIR-UOS “Promoción de la salud sexual en Adolescentes” de la Universidad de Cuenca-Ecuador. Con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto del curso, se aplicó a los docentes y 2 grupos de profesores no asistentes como testigos, una evaluación diagnóstica y una evaluación final, a través de 3 cuestionarios: el cuestionario de conocimientos sobre sexualidad y educación sexual con los siguientes ejes temáticos: sexualidad y actitudes, docencia y educación sexual, sexualidad y adolescencia, sexualidad: diversidad y bienestar personal-social y metodología en educación sexual. El cuestionario de actitudes hacia la sexualidad, con los siguientes ejes: valores personales claros, actitudes hacia la sexualidad en la vida, actitudes hacia la anticoncepción, actitudes hacia las relaciones prematrimoniales y autoestima. Finalmente, se aplicó el cuestionario de actitudes hacia la educación sexual. Los resultados muestran avances significativos en el nivel de conocimientos del grupo de capacitación; en la valoración inicial los docentes obtuvieron una media de .76 (DE = .07) y en post test este valor se elevó a .81 (DE = .07). En las actitudes hacia la sexualidad las diferencias no fueron estadísticamente significativas, la media inicial fue de 3.92 (DE = .52) y posteriormente fue de 4.16 (DE = .81). En las actitudes hacia la educación sexual, el valor medio inicial fue de 1.79 (DE = .58) que descendió a 1.52 (DE = .29) lo que indica una mejoría significativa en este aspecto. Se considera que variables tales como la edad de los participantes, perfil profesional y la modalidad del curso tuvieron una marcada influencia en el resultado de esta capacitación en sexualidad y educación sexual. Se discute sobre las medidas correctivas para mejorar la eficacia del curso

    Although the transnational migration and its impact on families and society has received considerable attention from scholars, still little is known about its effects on the family members who stay in their home country. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore adolescents’ experiences of close relationships in the context of transnational migration. The study was based on in-depth interviews with male and female adolescents whose parents had migrated. For administration of these interviews, a tool consisting of 15 pieces of wood was developed in order to invite participants to represent family members in an expressive modality that could facilitate discussion and decrease tension provoked by parental migration. Thematic analysis showed that adolescents experienced growing up within tri-generational families whose structure and dynamics allow for a sense of stability.     The romantic relationships are socially constructed relationships, meaning that they are shaped by various social and cultural factors. While these relationships have been studied previously in adults, in recent decades it has highlighted the need to study them during adolescence, where it has become clear that present important specific features. However, most studies on the subject have been developed in Europe and North America but there’s a void with respect to the development of relationships in Latin American cultures. For this reason, the aim of the research was to know and analyze the experiences around to relationships that experience the young people of Cuenca, in order to understand how cultural elements may be shaping these relations. To do this, in-depth interviews were conducted to 20 adolescents between 15 to 17 years, from the city of Cuenca. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results allowed knowing the fact that the relationships represent a great source of support for the young people, but in their development they execute dynamics of control and jealousy that are rather perceived as a kind of protection and care. Further, in the experiences of adolescents controlling behaviors are very frequent and naturalized in association of their ideas about romantic love

     El reconocimiento que se le ha dado al rol docente en la educación sexual, pero al mismo tiempo la evidente falta de conocimientos en el área de la sexualidad reflejado en la bibliografía existente, han llevado a desarrollar la presente investigación. El objetivo del presente estudio fue conocer las percepciones de docentes de la ciudad de Cuenca respecto a la educación sexual. Específicamente se pretendió comprender la valoración que dan a sus propios conocimientos, satisfacción docente, modalidad, concepciones y prejuicios del personal docentes en las aulas de clase. El método empleado tuvo un enfoque mixto secuencial explicativo, el que en un primer momento exploró, mediante un estudio cuantitativo, las concepciones sobre la educación sexual a través de una encuesta aplicada a 180 docentes. Partiendo de los resultados del estudio cuantitativo, en el segundo momento, se abordó la opinión del personal docente mediante un estudio cualitativo utilizando como herramienta el grupo focal. Los resultados se presentan en cuatro categorías: 1) valoración del conocimiento; 2) satisfacción docente; 3) modalidad; y 4) concepciones y prejuicios en la educación sexual.     Sex Education for my Preschooler (ages 3 to 5)? Parents’ Perceptions

    <p>This investigation was conducted as a result of the lack of studies, specifically on children’s sex education and the role that parents play in it, despite the major advances in the knowledge on sexuality and its education. The main goal of this qualitative study was to understand parents’ perceptions regarding sexual education of their children ages 3 to 5. Three focus group sessions were conducted with parents from Cuenca pre-schools. Data was processed using thematic analysis. The study indicated that parents have a limited conception of sexuality, completely based on the biological aspect. In addition, it was clear that parents have traditional ideas, conceptions and beliefs, which are reflected when educating their children. This research shows parents’ lack of knowledge about sexuality and sex education and gives important data about the need for parents and the school to work jointly to provide children with adequate and appropriate sex education, as well as the need for parent training in order to establish a common language between home and school and to avoid a double discourse in children’s education and to ensure a proper implementation of sex education programs at this level.</p

    Evaluation and accreditation of higher education in Ecuador: The University of Cuenca as a case study

    El presente trabajo se enmarca en el campo de estudios sobre Educación Superior, en particular, sobre las políticas de evaluación y acreditación en Latinoamérica, con un enfoque en el Ecuador. De manera específica, el estudio se desarrolló con el propósito de comprender los diferentes aspectos que estructuraron el proceso de evaluación y acreditación institucional de la Universidad de Cuenca, en el período 2013-2017. Para este fin, se utilizó un abordaje cualitativo, apoyándose en la tradición de los estudios de caso con énfasis en la política, desde el entendimiento que los procesos de implementación y los cambios institucionales constituyen un objeto privilegiado de análisis. Como estrategia para el relevamiento de la información se aplicó el análisis documental, bibliográfico y la revisión de literatura, así como la realización de 12 entrevistas a profundidad a actores estratégicos que intervinieron en el proceso. El estudio devela que la Universidad de Cuenca, descubre en la voluntad política de sus autoridades, el compromiso e involucramiento de su comunidad universitaria, así como la revisión y ordenamiento de sus procesos, las mejores estrategias para enfrentar los procesos de evaluación y acreditación institucional.This work is framed in the field of studies on Higher Education and particularly, on evaluation and accreditation policies in Latin America, focusing on Ecuador. Particularly, the study was developed with the purpose of understanding the different aspects that structured the institutional evaluation and accreditation process in the University of Cuenca between 2013-2017. For this purpose, a qualitative approach was used as a methodological strategy, relying on the tradition of case studies with emphasis on politics; based on the understanding that implementation processes and institutional changes constitute a privileged subject of analysis. Documentary and bibliographic analysis and literature review were used as a strategy for information gathering, as well as 12 in-depth interviews with strategic actors who intervened in the process. The study reveals that the University of Cuenca discovers in the political will of its au- thorities, the commitment and involvement of its university community, as well as the review and organization of its processes, the best strategies to face the institutional evaluation and accreditation processes
