Edwardsiella piscicida is an important fish pathogen responsible for economic losses in global aquaculture, and E. tarda is also a human zoonotic pathogen. In this study, the survival of E. piscicida and E. tarda strains kept in filtered and sterilized lake water microcosms was investigated during a 20-week period at 7 ◦C, 15 ◦C and 25 ◦C, as well as its pathogenicity retention during a starvation period. E. tarda V43.2 stayed culturable for 6 weeks at 7 ◦C, 9 weeks at 25 ◦C and 12 weeks at 15 ◦C. Both E. piscicida strains (V12.1 and V57.2) stayed culturable even longer, for at least 12 weeks at 7 ◦C, 15 ◦C and 25 ◦C under the same starvation conditions. After Edwardsiella cells entered into the VBNC state, some became shorter and "rounded up," but others aggregated and retained a short rod shape. Aggregates of Edwardsiella cells were common throughout the VBNC period, and a well-formed biofilm was observed for all tested strains at the end of the experiment. The growth capacity of VBNC cells was restored by cultivating microcosm water samples in LB broth at 28 ◦C. Resuscitated E. piscicida cells were as virulent for the European eel as the controls. Natural waters can be a reservoir for Edwardsiella, and its underestimation in environmental samples poses a risk to public health and aquaculture

In this report, I detail my experience as the production manager of the short film “Don Kikote de San Juan”, a project I became involved in unexpectedly. Initially, Alejandro Martínez, the director, contacted me to play a secondary character, but I soon realized that the magnitude of the project required much more work and organization than he had anticipated. That’s when I decided to take on the role of production manager to help bring this piece to life, a contemporary adaptation of Don Quijote de la Mancha. The short film features two main characters, Kiko Chicote and Paco Sánchez, who reflect elements of Alejandro's personal life and surroundings. Throughout the production process, I was involved not only in the organization and management of the project but also in the scriptwriting, contributing creative ideas and taking on additional roles such as scriptwriter and, at times, camera operator and director for specific scenes. One of the main challenges we faced was the lack of time for pre-production. We had a very tight schedule, which forced us to improvise in several areas such as the technical script and the shooting plan. Moreover, due to the team’s inexperience and the shortage of resources, I took on tasks ranging from organizing schedules to solving technical problems, like the lack of proper equipment and sound issues, which lengthened and complicated the entire process. Despite the numerous challenges during filming, particularly due to the absence of professional actors and the use of limited technical equipment, we managed to complete the short film in time to submit it to the San Juan Short Film Festival, although it was not accepted. Later, we continued seeking opportunities in other festivals such as the Alfaz del Pi Short Film Competition, the U22 Festival, and Lazos, though without success. Despite the setbacks, this project provided me with valuable experience in production management and direction. I learned the importance of thorough prior planning and the necessity of having a complete and specialized team. It was also an opportunity to develop skills in assertive communication and problem-solving under pressure. Although the short film has not yet reached its full potential, the experience of working on Don Kikote de San Juan has been one of the most enriching projects of my career thus far, both professionally and personally

On March 24, 2015, the largest air accident on the European continent of the last decade took place; the Germanwings Flight 9525 crashed. The main objective of this research is to determine the economic-financial impact of this air crash on the market stock price of the involved companies, Lufthansa airline, and its manufacturer Airbus. This study also contributes to determining whether the financial value of both companies was impacted by the media activity after the event. The primary methodology used is the event study methodology, applying both the market model and the Fama–French model. The results reveal that the impact of the Germanwings Flight 9525 on the financial value of the companies involved is different, since there is a significant effect on the financial value of Lufthansa under the market model, and this effect is immediate, but there is no significant effect on the financial value of Airbus with any of the models analyzed. In the same way, it happens when analyzing the impact of the media, since there is only a significant relationship between Lufthansa's share prices and the impact of media research with the market model. These results are important for the companies involved, and especially for their investors. It also shows that the manufacturing company is less vulnerable to the impact of the media, and it does not suffer significant losses on the stock market

How has the announcement of the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccine impacted the market?

As COVID-19 has hit the whole world hard, finding a vaccine that alleviates its effects has been one of the most anticipated events in 2020. This work studies the impact of the two main events in 2020 on companies’ stock exchange activities: announcing COVID19 as a world pandemic and announcing the first coronavirus vaccine. This study was carried out by an event study methodology using Nasdaq-100 data. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and quantile (Q) regression were used to obtain the returns expected from shares and to assess if there were any significant differences in the reactions of the analysed sectors on the market in each event window. The obtained empirical results show different share performances by sectors. Specifically, only those shares from the technology sector positively and significantly reacted to the first announcement. However, the opposite can be stated of the second event insofar as confidence in financial markets recovered to a greater extent in the sectors hardest hit by the first announcement. These conclusions are meaningful for companies, investors and governments to make better decisions or to adopt new policies

Predicting the Reputation of Pharmaceutical Firms with Financing and Geographical Location Data

[EN] Reputation is a strategic asset for firms, but has been poorly studied in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in relation to their financial and stock-market performance. This work aimed to predict the probability of a firm being included in a pharmaceutical reputation index (Merco and PatientView), and the position it occupies, according to its economic¿financial and stock-market outcomes and its geographical location. Fifty firms with excellent sales in 2019 and their rankings in 2017¿2019 were employed. The methodology followed was logistic regression. Their research and development (R&D) expenditures and dividends strongly influenced them being included in both rankings. Non-Asian pharmaceutical companies were more likely to belong to the two reputation indices than Asian ones, and to occupy the best positions in the Merco ranking. Although no large differences appeared in the firms in both indices, differences were found in the position that pharmaceutical companies occupied in rankings and in the variables that contribute to them occupying these positions. Being in PatientView influenced dividends, sales, and income, while appearing in Merco showed accounting aspects like value in books and debt ratio.Alcaide González, MÁ.; De La Poza, E.; Guadalajara Olmeda, MN.
