Polyanionic Biopolymers for the Delivery of Pt(II) Cationic Antiproliferative Complexes

Phenanthriplatin, that is, (SP-4-3)-diamminechlorido(phenanthridine)platinum(II) nitrate, an effective antitumor cationic Pt(II) complex, was loaded on negatively charged dextran sulfate (DS) as a model vector for drug delivery via electrostatic interactions. The free complex and the corresponding conjugate with DS were tested on two standard human tumor cell lines, namely, ovarian A2780 and colon HCT 116, and on several malignant pleural mesothelioma cell lines (namely, epithelioid BR95, mixed/biphasic MG06, sarcomatoid MM98, and sarcomatoid cisplatin-resistant MM98R). The in vitro results suggest that the conjugate releases the active metabolite phenanthriplatin with a biphasic fashion. In these experimental conditions, the conjugate is slightly less active than free phenanthriplatin; but both exhibited antiproliferative potency higher than the reference metallodrug cisplatin and were able to overcome the acquired cisplatin chemoresistance in MM98R cells

Biological activity of enantiomeric complexes [PtCl2L2](L2 is aromatic bisphosphanes and aromatic diamines)

Enantiomeric complexes of formula [PtCl(2)L(2)] [L(2) is (R)-(+)-BINAP and (S)-(-)-BINAP, where BINAP is 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphane)-1,1'-binaphthyl, and (R)-(+)-DABN and (S)-(-)-DABN, where DABN is 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diamine], were tested for their cytotoxic activity against three cancer cell lines and for their ability to bind to the human telomeric sequence folded in the G-quadruplex structure. Similar experiments were carried out on prototypal complexes cisplatin and cis-[PtCl(2)(PPh(3))(2)] for comparison. Platinum complexes containing phosphanes proved less cytotoxic to cancer cell lines and less likely to interact with the nucleobases of the G-quadruplex than those containing amines; in both cases the S-(-) isomer was more active than the R-(+) counterpart. More specifically, whereas all the platinum complexes were able to platinate the G-quadruplex structure from the human telomeric repeat, the extent and sites of platination depended on the nature of the ligands. Complexes containing (bulky) phosphanes interacted only with the adenines of the loops, whereas those containing the less sterically demanding amines interacted with adenines and some guanines of the G-quartet

This paper presents a case study of a 4 year old child with Asperger Syndrome that shows adaptative limitations in the classroom. An educational intervention program is designed that includes a series of basic and complex activities for the training of socio-emotional skills. The main objective of the activities is the acquisition of appropriate social roles and norms to improve more positive and satisfactory social relations. The program proposes a dynamic, systematic and active methodology. It is divided into 3 phases: emotional, social skills and socio-emotional skills. The effectiveness program is evaluated in two moments: Pretest and Postest

Knowledge Graph Embeddings with node2vec for Item Recommendation

    Get PDF
In the past years, knowledge graphs have proven to be beneficial for recommender systems, efficiently addressing paramount issues such as new items and data sparsity. Graph embeddings algorithms have shown to be able to automatically learn high quality feature vectors from graph structures, enabling vector-based measures of node relatedness. In this paper, we show how node2vec can be used to generate item recommendations by learning knowledge graph embeddings. We apply node2vec on a knowledge graph built from the MovieLens 1M dataset and DBpedia and use the node relatedness to generate item recommendations. The results show that node2vec consistently outperforms a set of collaborative filtering baselines on an array of relevant metric

An empirical comparison of knowledge graph embeddings for item recommendation

In the past years, knowledge graphs have proven to be beneficial for recommender systems, efficiently addressing paramount issues such as new items and data sparsity. At the same time, several works have recently tackled the problem of knowledge graph completion through machine learning algorithms able to learn knowledge graph embeddings. In this paper, we show that the item recommendation problem can be seen as a specific case of knowledge graph completion problem, where the “feedback” property, which connects users to items that they like, has to be predicted. We empirically compare a set of state-of-the-art knowledge graph embeddings algorithms on the task of item recommendation on the Movielens 1M dataset. The results show that knowledge graph embeddings models outperform traditional collaborative filtering baselines and that TransH obtains the best performance

Lenguaje y Comunicación en los Niños de Edad Pre-Escolar

    Get PDF

This contribution was delivered on the occasion of the EUI State of the Union in Florence on 5 May 2016.This intervention was part of the recorded SoU afternoon sessions that took place on 5 May 2016 available on Youtube; move to the part of the video session of your interest within the video recording. The panel will explore some of the intertwining links between the control of sexuality and reproduction, on the one hand, and the construction of welfare states on the other. It will also examine the influence that recent Catholic doctrines have had on these issues. In light of these considerations the panel will then turn to some contemporary legal debates, paying special attention to reproductive politics in post-socialist states (particularly Romania), to the transformation of fatherhood and masculinities in the jurisprudence of the ECtHR, and to the preconditions for gender recognition in comparative constitutional law
