Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Diabetes Managment Training Program for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel in Schools
This study evaluated the diabetes management-training program for unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). The purpose of the program was to prepare UAP to recognize and respond to the health care needs of students diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. Twenty UAP participated. Teaching strategies were based on Albert Bandura\u27 s social learning theory~ Two instruments were administered before and after the program. One was a 1 0-question survey addressing self-efficacy; the other was a 10 question multiple-choice test measuring knowledge of diabetes. Results of paired t tests indicate consistent and significant improvement in both perceptions of self-efficacy and knowledge (p \u3c .05). This program provides a framework for school nurses training UAP that assist in the health care of students with diabetes. It is important that school nurses capitalize on the contribution that informed confident UAP might contribute to the provision of safe quality care to students with diabetes
Handling employee problems
The most effective means of handling employee problems is to recognize
and eliminate their probable cause before they arise. The authors of
other papers included in these proceedings have provided guidance for
avoiding manager/employee problems on a daily basis. If the conditions
they discuss are monitored, there should be little need for "handling employee
problems." In order to identify a problem, a supervisor must know
and be sensitive to employees' needs as well as have a comprehensive
view of organizational goals. The way in which each employee's role fits
into the overall plan of service should be well defined. With this information,
an insightful manager can identify both real and potential problems
and deal with them appropriately.published or submitted for publicatio
ARES and the Formation of the International Real Estate Society
Since 1991 the American Real Estate Society (ARES) Board has been working with representatives from around the world to establish an umbrella organization--the International Real Estate Society (IRES). The intent of the organization is to link real estate researchers and educators on an international basis. This paper highlights the progress that has been made and the role ARES has played in establishing IRES, as well as the two new regional societies--the European Real Estate Society and the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society. Along with ARES, these organizations were the founding members of the International Real Estate Society.
