    Observations of Mare Serenitatis from lunar orbit and their interpretation

    Visual observations are investigated of color differences of Serenitatis mare materials from orbit complement photography and other remotely sensed data. The light tan gray inner fill of the Serenitatis basin is younger than the dark blue gray annulus; the latter continues into and appears to be contemporaneous with the fill of Mare Tranquillitatis. Mare ridges occur in both the inner basin fill and the dark annulus of Serenitatis. Ridges are interpreted as the result of structural deformation and up-doming after the solidification of the basaltic lavas. On the southeastern rim of the Serenitatis basin is the darkes blue gray unit within which Apollo 17 landed. Highland massifs surrounding this unit have unstable slopes which are believed to be the result of localized tectonic activity. On the southwest rim of the basin are the dark tan to brown gray mantling materials of the Sulpicius Gallus Formation. Farther west on the rim are dark blue grap patches which resemble the mare material of the Serenitatis dark annulus

    An extended Hubbard model with phonons is considered. q-coherent states relative to the superconducting quantum symmetry of the model are constructed and their properties studied.     Risk factors for autism: An Egyptian study

    This study has been conducted to determine the possible risk factors of autism. This case control study was conducted at pediatric hospital, Ain Shams University on, 100 autistic patients who were subjected to the followings tools: Confirmation of diagnosis using DSM-IV-TR criteria,IQ assessment using Stanford–Binrent intelligence scale, and assessment of severity of autistic symptoms using childhood autism rating scale (CARS). Full clinical examination, neurological examination, EEG and audiological assessment were also done. Forty-six percent of our patientswith autistic symptoms presented at the age of one and half years and 32% at the age of 2 years. Fifty-five percent of our patients had mild to severe retardation (IQ = 20–70), 36% below average mentality (IQ = 71–89) and 9% with normal mentality (IQ = 90–109). High maternal age (mother, P35 years) at birth was found in 23% of autistic children in comparison to 9.5% of controls. Also advanced paternal age (father, P35 years) at birth was found in 91% of cases in comparison to 83.5% of control group and the difference was statistically significant. Positive family history was found to be statistically significantly associated with the risk of autism (16% of cases versus 1% of control). All studied developmental milestones were delayed among autistic children than control group (p= 0.000). As regards natal factors, a history of low birth weight, delivery by ceserian section were significantly higher among cases than controls. Also postnatal factors as history of hypoxia, resuscitation and history of jaundice were considered significantly risk factors for autism (p=0.000)

    Desert landforms of southwest Egypt: A basis for comparison with Mars

    Geologic interpretations of The Gilf Kebir-Uweinat of Apollo-Soyuz photographs were verified. The photographs and LANDSAT images showed features reminiscent of those depicted by Mariner and Viking missions to Mars. These features were to better understand their morphologic analogs on Mars. It is indicated that climate change played a significant role in the formation of the eastern Sahara. It is also revealed that correlations between the eolian features in southwestern Egypt and the wind blown patterns on the surface of Mars result in a better understanding of eolian activity on both planets

    AMELIORATING THE METABOLIC DISORDER IN STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS BY HAEMATOCOCCUS PLUVIALIS EXTRACT

    Objective: The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the antidiabetic influence of Haematococcus pluvialis (H. pluvialis) ethanolic extract on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced rats.Methods: This influence was assessed by measuring; asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), von willebrand factor (vWf), 15-lipoxygenase (15-LOX), 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and lipoxin-A4 (LXA4). The histopathological examinations of cardiac and renal tissues were also performed.Results: The presented  results showed an elevation in the levels of ADMA, vWf, 15-LOXand 5-LOX with percentage increase  430.30, 77.54, 61.05 and 81.09 %, respectively in diabetic rats. However, the EGF and LXA4 levels were decreased significantly (44.17 and51.94%, respectively) compared to normal control rats. On the other hand, treatment of diabetic rats with H. pluvialis improved ADMA, vWf, 15-LOX, 5LOX, EGF and LXA4 levels with amelioration percentages; 269.69, 54.77, 55.78, 72.68, 53.39 and 56.58%, respectively. Additionally, the histopathological examination of diabetic cardiac tissue revealed congestion of myocardial blood vessel, vacuolation of the sarcoplasm of cardiac myocytes and focal necrosis of myocytes associated with inflammatory cells infiltration. Beside, vacuolation of epithelial lining of renal tubules and endothelial lining glomerular tuft as well as cystic dilatation of renal tubules were detected. However, cardiac tissue  and renal tubules of diabetic rats treated with H. pluvialis ethanolic extract (150 mg/kg b.wt.) showed normal cardiac myocytes, vacuolation of epithelial lining renal tubules and endothelial lining glomerular tuft, congestion of glomerular tuft and intertubular renal blood vessels.Conclusion: These results confirmed the improving role of H. pluvialis in controlling type 2diabetes.Â
