Acoustic emission spectral analysis of fiber composite failure mechanisms
The acoustic emission of graphite fiber polyimide composite failure mechanisms was investigated with emphasis on frequency spectrum analysis. Although visual examination of spectral densities could not distinguish among fracture sources, a paired-sample t statistical analysis of mean normalized spectral densities did provide quantitative discrimination among acoustic emissions from 10 deg, 90 deg, and plus or minus 45 deg, plus or minus 45 deg sub s specimens. Comparable discrimination was not obtained for 0 deg specimens
El proceso transdiagnóstico del perfeccionismo
The transdiagnostic approach to theory and treatment of psychological disorders is gainingincreasing interest. A transdiagnostic process is one that occurs across disorders and explainstheir onset or maintenance. The purpose of this review is to provide evidence that perfectionism isa transdiagnostic process that it is elevated in anxiety disorders, eating disorders, depression, obsessivecompulsive personality disorder and somatoform disorders. Data are also reviewed to showthat perfectionism can explain aetiology as it is a prospective predictor of depression and eatingdisorders. Perfectionism is also demonstrated to predict poorer outcome to treatment for anxietydisorders, eating disorders and depression, suggesting the need for specific treatment of perfectionism.Evidence is provided to demonstrate that perfectionism can be successfully treated with cognitivebehavioural therapy which results in reduction in psychopathologies. Clinical guidelines areoutlined to assist in treatment planning for individuals with elevated perfectionism.Abstract: The transdiagnostic approach to theory and treatment of psychological disorders is gainingincreasing interest.
The Characterization of Salmonella isolated from Pig Meat in Northern Ireland by PFGE and Antibiotic Resistance Profiles
The emergence of antibiotic resistance and especially multiple antibiotic resistance Salmonella has become a concern for the pig industry throughout the EU. Pig herds and pork are considered as principal reservoirs for the multi-resistant Salmonella type Typhimunum DT104, which has acquired resistance to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycm, sulphonamides and tetracycline. This resistance pattern is also known as ACSSuT. In this study Porcine Salmonella strains were isolated between December 2005 and December 2006. The strains origmated from an abattoir study sampling the \u27oyster\u27 cut. The Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles of all Salmonella isolates in this study were determined by disk diffusion tests. Twelve antibiotics were utilized throughout the profiling procedure Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE), which is regarded as the Gold Standard for the typmg and strain identification of Salmonella isolates, was used to determine DNA fingerprints of the Salmonella isolates using the restriction enzyme Xbal (Invitrogen) The fragments were then separated by PFGE in a Chef DR II system (Bio-Rad). This enabled comparison of Salmonella isolated in this study
Coming of age: A reflection of the first 21 years of cognitive behaviour therapy for perfectionism
It has been 21 years since the publication of the cognitive behavioural model of clinical perfectionism that underpins cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for perfectionism. The notion of clinical perfectionism and CBT for perfectionism has been controversial. Despite 15 randomised controlled trials which have demonstrated the efficacy of CBT for perfectionism in reducing perfectionism and symptoms of anxiety, depression and eating disorders, strong responses to this work continue to appear in the literature. In this article, we examine the evolution and controversy surrounding clinical perfectionism, the efficacy of CBT for perfectionism, and future directions for the concept of perfectionism and its treatment. Future research should aim to provide independent evaluations of treatment efficacy, compare CBT for perfectionism to active treatments, conduct dismantling trials to examine the effective components of treatment, and examine the causal processes involved in perfectionism. We provide recommendations for future pathways to support innovation in theory, understanding, and treatment of perfectionism with a view towards improving clinical outcomes
The Extended Methanol Maser Emission in W51
The European VLBI Network (EVN) has been used to make phase referenced,
wide-field (several arcminute) spectral line observations of the 6.7-GHz
methanol maser emission towards W51. In the W51main region, the bulk of the
methanol is offset from an UCHII region. This probably indicates the methanol
emission arises at the interface of the expanding UCHII region and not from an
edge-on circumstellar disc, as previously suggested. Near the W51 IRS2 region,
the methanol emission is associated with a very compact, extremely embedded
source supporting the hypothesis that methanol masers trace the earliest stages
of massive star formation. As well as these two previously well studied sites
of star formation, many previously unknown regions star formation are detected,
demonstrating that methanol masers are powerful means of detection young
massive stars.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Epidemiology of recurrent seizure disorders and epilepsy in cats under primary veterinary care in the United Kingdom
Background
Little epidemiological evaluation of recurrent seizure disorders in cats currently exists in veterinary literature.
Objectives
To report the prevalence and risk factors for recurrent seizure disorders (RSD) and epilepsy in cats presented to primary care veterinary practices in the United Kingdom (UK).
Animals
A total of 285 547 cats under veterinary care during 2013 presenting to 282 primary care clinics in the UK.
Methods
Cohort study using multivariable logistic regression modeling for risk factor analysis.
Results
There were 458 confirmed RSD cases, giving a 1‐year period prevalence of 0.16% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.15‐0.18). A subset of 114 (24.89%) cases was recorded as having epilepsy, giving a 1‐year period prevalence of 0.04% (95% CI, 0.03‐0.5). Increasing age was significantly associated with increasing odds of RSD. Breed, sex, neuter status, and body weight were not associated with RSD. Epilepsy was most frequently diagnosed in adult to middle‐aged cats. Cats aged 3.0 to <6.0 years had 3.32 times higher odds of epilepsy diagnosis compared to cats <3.0 years of age. Insured cats were more likely to be diagnosed with epilepsy compared to noninsured cats.
Conclusions and Clinical Importance
Although less common than in dogs, RSD and epilepsy still comprise an important disorder group in the UK cat population. Aging is a significant risk factor for these disorders in cats
Infrared emission from interstellar dust cloud with two embedded sources: IRAS 19181+1349
Mid and far infrared maps of many Galactic star forming regions show multiple
peaks in close proximity, implying more than one embedded energy sources. With
the aim of understanding such interstellar clouds better, the present study
models the case of two embedded sources. A radiative transfer scheme has been
developed to deal with an uniform density dust cloud in a cylindrical geometry,
which includes isotropic scattering in addition to the emission and absorption
processes. This scheme has been applied to the Galactic star forming region
associated with IRAS 19181+1349, which shows observational evidence for two
embedded energy sources. Two independent modelling approaches have been
adopted, viz., to fit the observed spectral energy distribution (SED) best; or
to fit the various radial profiles best, as a function of wavelength. Both the
models imply remarkably similar physical parameters.Comment: 17 pages, 6 Figures, uses epsf.sty. To appear in Journal of

The Arecibo Methanol Maser Galactic Plane Survey - II: Statistical and Multi-wavelength Counterpart Analysis
We present an analysis of the properties of the 6.7 GHz methanol maser sample
detected in the Arecibo Methanol Maser Galactic Plane Survey. The distribution
of the masers in the Galaxy, and statistics of their multi-wavelength
counterparts is consistent with the hypothesis of 6.7 GHz maser emission being
associated with massive young stellar objects. Using the detection statistics
of our survey, we estimate the minimum number of methanol masers in the Galaxy
to be 1275. The l-v diagram of the sample shows the tangent point of the
Carina-Sagittarius spiral arm to be around 49.6 degrees, and suggests
occurrence of massive star formation along the extension of the Crux-Scutum
arm. A Gaussian component analysis of the maser spectra shows the mean
line-width to be 0.38 km/s which is more than a factor of two larger than what
has been reported in the literature. We also find no evidence that faint
methanol masers have different properties than those of their bright
counterparts.Comment: Accepted by ApJ; Revised footnote number 3 on page 8 based on private
