Summary: Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the extrapyramidal system. The disease is characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms that can significantly disrupt the patient's daily life and affect the quality of life. Incidence and prevalence increase proportionally with age. Motor symptoms occur as a result of the destruction of neurons in the striatonigral regions and consequent reduction of dopamine in the corpus striatium. As a result of these pathological processes, the characteristic symptoms of Parkinson's appear. From the point of view of neurorehabilitation, it aims to reduce the progression of the disease, prevent the occurrence of additional complications and, as far as possible, ease the patient's new condition. Purpose: To monitor the influence of kinesitherapeutic agents on motor abilities in patients with Parkinson's disease. Contingent and methods: The study included 12 patients with Parkinson's disease (7 men and 5 women, mean age 64.2±3.7), II-III according to Hoehn and Yahr during a period of 1 month. 15 individual one-hour kinesitherapeutic procedures were carried out, including spinal flexibility exercises from a relaxed initial position, dynamic exercises, games and sports elements. In the preparatory part, breathing exercises with prolonged exhalation, segmental massage, relaxing procedures, manual stretching with swaying are used. The main part of the procedure aims to reduce bradykinesia by mobilizing the spine and increasing the range of motion in the joints, improving balance and gait stability through cyclical exercises. The effect of the application of kinesitherapeutic agents on movement disorders is evaluated - subjective assessment of body posture, Waltenberg test, modified brain test. Results: The study shows that applied kinesitherapy during 1 month (15 individual procedures) has a positive effect (p<0.001), reduces the rigidity of cervical muscles, improves posture and coordination of patients with Parkinson's disease. Conclusion: The implementation of kinesitherapeutic agents for a long time shows a positive effect in patients with Parkinson's disease, which leads to an impact on their motor abilities. Key words: motor abilities, kinesitherapy, Parkinson's disease Area: Social Health and Medicin

Silica nanoparticles (SNPs) doped by hexanuclear molybdenum cluster complexes [{Mo₆X₈}L₆]n (X = Cl, Br, or I; L = various inorganic or organic ligands) have been recently suggested as materials with a high potential for biomedical applications due to both the outstanding photoluminescent properties and the ability to efficiently generate singlet oxygen upon photoirradiation. However, no studies were undertaken so far to prove this concept. Therefore, here we examined the potential of photoluminescent SNPs doped by {Mo₆I₈}⁴⁺ for such applications as bioimaging and photodynamic therapy using human epidermoid larynx carcinoma (Hep-2) cell line as a model. Our results demonstrated both: (i) significant luminescence from cells with internalised molybdenum cluster doped SNPs combined with the low cytotoxicity of particles in the darkness and (ii) significant cytotoxicity of the particles upon photoirradiation. Thus, this research provides strong experimental evidence for high potential of molybdenum cluster doped materials in such biomedical applications as optical bioimaging, biolabeling and photodynamic therapy

Influence of the duration of aging the system Ti/Al2O3 in a hydrogen atmosphere on hydrogen sorption, adhesion, tribology, and electrical conductivity of the film

Publisher's version (útgefin grein)This paper reports results on the interaction between an aluminum oxide film, deposited on technically pure titanium of grade VT1-0 by the magnetron reactive sputtering method, and a hydrogen-containing atmosphere. Such a study is important in order to find protective coatings that would prevent the penetration of hydrogen inside a product. A given system aged in a hydrogen atmosphere in the interval of 1‒4 hours at a pressure of 2∙105 Pa (2 bar) and a temperature of 400 °C. We have acquired data on the distribution of hydrogen along a film thickness and its content in a thin-film system. It is shown that hydrogen diffuses into the film and builds up in it up to three hours, and only then it begins to penetrate the substrate. We have managed to increase aging duration in a hydrogen-containing environment and increase the temperature of heating up to the stage of film destruction. In the case of the starting film and after aging from 1 to 3 hours the adhesion force between a film and a substrate increases, apparently due to the formation of hydrogen bonds film-substrate. The adsorption of hydrogen atoms at the surface of the Al2О3 film is accompanied by an increase in its conductivity by not larger than 4 % with the increased time of aging. Such a change in the conductivity of the Al2О3 film can be explained based on the formation of a zone structure. Thin oxide films may possess continuous one-side conductivity, but in the case the film is thick (0.5 µm and above), it is not possible to argue about the one-side conductivity. The data acquired on the influence of aging duration in a hydrogen atmosphere indicate an increase in adhesive strength by almost 6 times within 3 hours and by 2.5 times in 4 hours. The determined coefficient of film friction increases by not larger than 2.5 times. By measuring the electrical conductivity of the film surface, it was found that it increases with an increase in the time of aging in a hydrogen atmosphere. This pattern is obviously linked to the creation of transitions of the p-n-type in the film of aluminum oxide at the expense of hydrogen ionsPeer Reviewe

Vocal group signatures in the goitred gazelle Gazella subgutturosa

Abstract The potential for vocal modification in mammals has recently been of great interest. This study focuses on the potential for vocal matching in juvenile and adolescent goitred gazelles Gazella subgutturosa that were group housed as part of an animal management programme. Two groups of animals (16 and 19 unrelated individuals, respectively) were recorded at two different ages, juvenile and adolescent, regarding 20-25 calls per individual per age; each group was evaluated in a separate year. Vocal similarity of group members compared to nonmembers was prominent in both ages, but higher in juveniles. Individual identity was prominent in both ages and higher in adolescents. The more prominent vocal indicators of group membership in juveniles could be related to their higher social dependence compared to adolescents. The more individualized calls of adolescents could be a mechanistic consequence of more stable growth at older age. Our results suggest vocal plasticity of goitred gazelles under social influences. These data add to recent evidence about domestic goat kids Capra hircus, suggesting that vocalizations of species that are not capable of imitation are more flexible than previously thought
