Scaling Properties of Paths on Graphs
Let be a directed graph on finitely many vertices and edges, and assign a
positive weight to each edge on . Fix vertices and and consider the
set of paths that start at and end at , self-intersecting in any number
of places along the way. For each path, sum the weights of its edges, and then
list the path weights in increasing order. The asymptotic behaviour of this
sequence is described, in terms of the structure and type of strongly connected
components on the graph. As a special case, for a Markov chain the asymptotic
probability of paths obeys either a power law scaling or a weaker type of
scaling, depending on the structure of the transition matrix. This generalizes
previous work by Mandelbrot and others, who established asymptotic power law
scaling for special classes of Markov chains.Comment: 23 pages, 2 figure
Chiral Condensate in the Deconfined Phase of Quenched Gauge Theories
We compute the low lying spectrum of the overlap Dirac operator in the
deconfined phase of finite-temperature quenched gauge theory. It suggests the
existence of a chiral condensate which we confirm with a direct stochastic
estimate. We show that the part of the spectrum responsible for the chiral
condensate can be understood as arising from a dilute gas of instantons and

An analysis for high speed propeller-nacelle aerodynamic performance prediction. Volume 1: Theory and application
A computer program, the Propeller Nacelle Aerodynamic Performance Prediction Analysis (PANPER), was developed for the prediction and analysis of the performance and airflow of propeller-nacelle configurations operating over a forward speed range inclusive of high speed flight typical of recent propfan designs. A propeller lifting line, wake program was combined with a compressible, viscous center body interaction program, originally developed for diffusers, to compute the propeller-nacelle flow field, blade loading distribution, propeller performance, and the nacelle forebody pressure and viscous drag distributions. The computer analysis is applicable to single and coaxial counterrotating propellers. The blade geometries can include spanwise variations in sweep, droop, taper, thickness, and airfoil section type. In the coaxial mode of operation the analysis can treat both equal and unequal blade number and rotational speeds on the propeller disks. The nacelle portion of the analysis can treat both free air and tunnel wall configurations including wall bleed. The analysis was applied to many different sets of flight conditions using selected aerodynamic modeling options. The influence of different propeller nacelle-tunnel wall configurations was studied. Comparisons with available test data for both single and coaxial propeller configurations are presented along with a discussion of the results
An analysis for high speed propeller-nacelle aerodynamic performance prediction. Volume 2: User's manual
A user's manual for the computer program developed for the prediction of propeller-nacelle aerodynamic performance reported in, An Analysis for High Speed Propeller-Nacelle Aerodynamic Performance Prediction: Volume 1 -- Theory and Application, is presented. The manual describes the computer program mode of operation requirements, input structure, input data requirements and the program output. In addition, it provides the user with documentation of the internal program structure and the software used in the computer program as it relates to the theory presented in Volume 1. Sample input data setups are provided along with selected printout of the program output for one of the sample setups
Variable Conductance Heat Pipe Technology
A research and development program in variable conductance heat pipe technology is reported. The project involved: (1) theoretical and/or experimental studies in hydrostatics, (2) hydrodynamics, (3) heat transfer into and out of the pipe, (4) fluid selection, and (5) materials compatibility. The development, fabrication, and test of the space hardware resulted in a successful flight of the heat pipe experiment on the OAO-3 satellite. A summary of the program is provided and a guide to the location of publications on the project is included
Political and Media Discourses about Integrating Refugees in the UK

The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link.This article addresses political and media discourses about integrating refugees in the UK in the context of the ârefugee crisisâ. A discursive psychological approach is presented as the best way to understand what talk about the concept is used to accomplish in these debates. A large corpus of political discussions (13 hours of debate featuring 146 politicians) and 960 newspaper articles from the UK were discourse analysed. The analysis identified five dilemmas about integration: Integration is positive and necessary, but challenging; Host communities are presented as welcoming, but there are limits to their capacity; Refugees are responsible for integration, but host communities need to provide support; Good refugees integrate, bad ones don't; Refugees are vulnerable and are skilled. All are used to warrant the inclusion or exclusion of refugees. The responsibility of western nations to support refugees is therefore contingent on the refugees behaving in specific ways
Anomalous aging phenomena caused by drift velocities
We demonstrate via several examples that a uniform drift velocity gives rise
to anomalous aging, characterized by a specific form for the two-time
correlation functions, in a variety of statistical-mechanical systems far from
equilibrium. Our first example concerns the oscillatory phase observed recently
in a model of competitive learning. Further examples, where the proposed theory
is exact, include the voter model and the Ohta-Jasnow-Kawasaki theory for
domain growth in any dimension, and a theory for the smoothing of sandpile

Tracing Slow Winds from T Tauri Stars via Low Velocity Forbidden Line Emission
Using Keck/HIRES spectra {\Delta}v ~ 7 km/s, we analyze forbidden lines of [O
I] 6300 {\AA}, [O I] 5577 {\AA} and [S II] 6731 {\AA} from 33 T Tauri stars
covering a range of disk evolutionary stages. After removing a high velocity
component (HVC) associated with microjets, we study the properties of the low
velocity component (LVC). The LVC can be attributed to slow disk winds that
could be magnetically (MHD) or thermally (photoevaporative) driven. Both of
these winds play an important role in the evolution and dispersal of
protoplanetary material.
LVC emission is seen in all 30 stars with detected [O I] but only in 2 out of
eight with detected [S II] , so our analysis is largely based on the properties
of the [O I] LVC. The LVC itself is resolved into broad (BC) and narrow (NC)
kinematic components. Both components are found over a wide range of accretion
rates and their luminosity is correlated with the accretion luminosity, but the
NC is proportionately stronger than the BC in transition disks.
The FWHM of both the BC and NC correlates with disk inclination, consistent
with Keplerian broadening from radii of 0.05 to 0.5 AU and 0.5 to 5 AU,
respectively. The velocity centroids of the BC suggest formation in an MHD disk
wind, with the largest blueshifts found in sources with closer to face-on
orientations. The velocity centroids of the NC however, show no dependence on
disk inclination. The origin of this component is less clear and the evidence
for photoevaporation is not conclusive
Suited for Success? : Suits, Status, and Hybrid Masculinity

Each of these men varied in their subject positionsâbody shape, ethnicity, age, and gender identityâwhich allowed us to look at the influence of menâs intersectional identities on their relationship with their suits. The men in our research all understood the suit according to its most common representation in popular culture: a symbol of hegemonic masculinity. While they wore the suit to embody hegemonic masculine configurations of practiceâpower, status, and rationalityâmost of these men were simultaneously marginalized by the gender hierarchy. We explain this disjuncture by using the concept of hybrid masculinity and illustrate that changes in the style of hegemonic masculinity leave its substance intact. Our findings expand thinking about hybrid masculinity by revealing the ways subordinated masculinities appropriate and reinforce hegemonic masculinity.Peer reviewe
