Felony sentences in Nevada have both a minimum and a maximum term, unless a definite term is required by statute. In 2017, legislation was passed creating the Nevada Sentencing Commission. The Commission hasmany statutory duties, including formulating statutory sentencing guidelines to be enacted by the legislature. Nevada's first Pardons Board was created in 1867. The Board was granted the power to parole inmates in 1909. In 1989, Nevada passed legislation that required the Board to create standards for parole release and revocation.Nevada also signed justice reinvestment legislation in 2007, which increased incentives for parolees to comply with supervision and expanded alternatives to incarceration

Fit Into College: A Program to Improve Physical Activity and Dietary Intake Lifestyles Among College Students
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a 10-week program could improve physical activity, physical fitness, body weight, dietary intake, and perceptions of exercise and diet among college 30 healthy college freshmen. Outcomes were measured at baseline, and following the 10-week program. The weekly sessions incorporated constructs of the Transtheoretical Model of Health Behavior Change and were administered by fitness interns who were junior or senior college students enrolled in health-related majors. The participants presented with low physical activity, physical fitness, and poor dietary intake, and 50% were overweight/obese (BMI \u3e 25). Participants demonstrated gains in their physical fitness and their perceived benefits to engaging in exercise and decreased their perceived barriers to engaging in exercise and a healthy diet. College freshmen presented with low levels of physical activity, poor dietary intake, and excess body weight. A peer-administered program can improve these measures and favorably change perceptions of exercise and diet

Rhode Island does not have a sentencing commission or statutory sentencing guidelines. The Rhode Island Superior Court, which has jurisdiction over felony crimes and sentences, uses sentencing benchmarks as well as general, statutory authority to sentence offenders to a specific term of imprisonment. Rhode Island has had conditional release since 1896, and the Parole Board has existed in some form since 1915. In 1993, the legislature passed an act that increased the number of board members from 6 to 7 and added a fulltime chairperson
Efficient computation of matched solutions of the Kapchinskij-Vladimirskij envelope equations for periodic focusing lattices
A new iterative method is developed to numerically calculate the periodic,
matched beam envelope solution of the coupled Kapchinskij-Vladimirskij (KV)
equations describing the transverse evolution of a beam in a periodic, linear
focusing lattice of arbitrary complexity. Implementation of the method is
straightforward. It is highly convergent and can be applied to all usual
parameterizations of the matched envelope solutions. The method is applicable
to all classes of linear focusing lattices without skew couplings, and also
applies to all physically achievable system parameters -- including where the
matched beam envelope is strongly unstable. Example applications are presented
for periodic solenoidal and quadrupole focusing lattices. Convergence

Mercury trends in cormorant and great blue heron eggs from Pacific Canada: a question of local and global sources
Mercury (Hg) levels and trends in the NE Pacific Ocean are due to the convergence between natural and anthropogenic sources, with the latter broadly related to a combination of local and long-range sources. Legacy and current local point sources include chlor-alkali plants, pulp and paper mills and other mixed sources. In addition, long-range atmospheric and oceanic pathways deliver mercury to the Pacific coast, primarily from points to the west, where it is taken up by algae and bacteria and transferred through the marine food web in its inorganic form, but also its organic form, methylmercury. We present data on Hg trends in pelagic cormorant ((Phalacrocorax pelagicus) and great blue heron (Ardea herodias) eggs in Pacific Canada over a 48 year period. Temporal trends are evaluated using both diet- and non-diet-adjusted data and compared to Hg trends observed in other seabird species in the region, as well as the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Mercury concentrations declined alongside δ34S over time in both species, but no trend for δ13C and δ15N was apparent. Randomized trial of conventional transseptal needle versus radiofrequency energy needle puncture for left atrial access (the TRAVERSE-LA study).
BackgroundTransseptal puncture is a critical step in achieving left atrial (LA) access for a variety of cardiac procedures. Although the mechanical Brockenbrough needle has historically been used for this procedure, a needle employing radiofrequency (RF) energy has more recently been approved for clinical use. We sought to investigate the comparative effectiveness of an RF versus conventional needle for transseptal LA access.Methods and resultsIn this prospective, single-blinded, controlled trial, 72 patients were randomized in a 1:1 fashion to an RF versus conventional (BRK-1) transseptal needle. In an intention-to-treat analysis, the primary outcome was time required for transseptal LA access. Secondary outcomes included failure of the assigned needle, visible plastic dilator shavings from needle introduction, and any procedural complication. The median transseptal puncture time was 68% shorter using the RF needle compared with the conventional needle (2.3 minutes [interquartile range {IQR}, 1.7 to 3.8 minutes] versus 7.3 minutes [IQR, 2.7 to 14.1 minutes], P = 0.005). Failure to achieve transseptal LA access with the assigned needle was less common using the RF versus conventional needle (0/36 [0%] versus 10/36 [27.8%], P < 0.001). Plastic shavings were grossly visible after needle advancement through the dilator and sheath in 0 (0%) RF needle cases and 12 (33.3%) conventional needle cases (P < 0.001). There were no differences in procedural complications (1/36 [2.8%] versus 1/36 [2.8%]).ConclusionsUse of an RF needle resulted in shorter time to transseptal LA access, less failure in achieving transseptal LA access, and fewer visible plastic shavings
Dynamical Evolution of Boson Stars II: Excited States and Self-Interacting Fields
The dynamical evolution of self-gravitating scalar field configurations in
numerical relativity is studied. The previous analysis on ground state boson
stars of non-interacting fields is extended to excited states and to fields
with self couplings.
Self couplings can significantly change the physical dimensions of boson
stars, making them much more astrophysically interesting (e.g., having mass of
order 0.1 solar mass). The stable () and unstable () branches of
equilibrium configurations of boson stars of self-interacting fields are
studied; their behavior under perturbations and their quasi-normal oscillation
frequencies are determined and compared to the non-interacting case.
Excited states of boson stars with and without self-couplings are studied and
compared. Excited states also have equilibrium configurations with and
branch structures; both branches are intrinsically unstable under a generic
perturbation but have very different instability time scales. We carried out a
detailed study of the instability time scales of these configurations. It is
found that highly excited states spontaneously decay through a cascade of
