    The rotation of surviving companion stars after type Ia supernova explosions in the WD+MS scenario

    In the SD scenario of SNe Ia the companion survives the SN explosion and thus should be visible near the center of the SN remnant and may show some unusual features. A promising approach to test progenitor models of SNe Ia is to search for the companion in SNRs. Here we present the results of 3D hydrodynamics simulations of the interaction between the SN Ia blast wave and a MS companion taking into consideration its orbital motion and spin. The primary goal of this work is to investigate the rotation of surviving companions after SN Ia explosions in the WD+MS scenario. We use Eggleton's code including the optically thick accretion wind model to obtain realistic models of companions. The impact of the SN blast wave on these companions is followed in 3D hydrodynamic simulations employing the SPH code GADGET3. We find that the rotation of the companion does not significantly affect the amount of stripped mass and the kick velocity caused by the SN impact. However, in our simulations, the rotational velocity of the companion is significantly reduced to about 14% to 32% of its pre-explosion value due to the expansion of the companion and the fact that 55%-89% of the initial angular momentum is carried away by the stripped matter. Compared with the observed rotational velocity of the presumed companion star of Tycho's SN, Tycho G, of 6 km/s the final rotational velocity we obtain is still higher by at least a factor of two. Whether this difference is significant, and may cast doubts on the suggestion that Tycho G is the companion of SN 1572, has to be investigated in future studies. Based on binary population synthesis results we present, for the first time, the expected distribution of rotational velocities of companions after the explosion which may provide useful information for the identification of the surviving companion in observational searches in other historical SNRs.Comment: 13 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication by Astronomy and Astrophysic

    Reduced Isotype Switching in Splenic B Cells from Mice Deficient in Mismatch Repair Enzymes

    Mice deficient in various mismatch repair (MMR) enzymes were examined to determine whether this repair pathway is involved in antibody class switch recombination. Splenic B cells from mice deficient in Msh2, Mlh1, Pms2, or Mlh1 and Pms2 were stimulated in culture with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce immunoglobulin (Ig)G2b and IgG3, LPS and interleukin (IL)-4 to induce IgG1, or LPS, anti–δ-dextran, IL-4, IL-5, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 to induce IgA. After 4 d in culture, cells were surface stained for IgM and non-IgM isotypes and analyzed by FACS®. B cells from MMR-deficient mice show a 35–75% reduction in isotype switching, depending on the isotype and on the particular MMR enzyme missing. IgG2b is the most affected, reduced by 75% in Mlh1-deficient animals. The switching defect is not due to a lack of maturation of the B cells, as purified IgM+IgD+ B cells show the same reduction. MMR deficiency had no effect on cell proliferation, viability, or apoptosis, as detected by [3H]thymidine incorporation and by propidium iodide staining. The reduction in isotype switching was demonstrated to be at the level of DNA recombination by digestion-circularization polymerase chain reaction (DC-PCR).     The title compound, [Cu(ClO4)2(C3H4N2)4], was obtained unexpectedly by the reaction of copper(II) perchlorate hexa­hydrate with equimolar amounts of 1-chloro-1-nitro-2,2,2-tripyrazolylethane in methanol solution. The crystal structure comprises octa­hedrally coordinated Cu2+ ions, located on an inversion centre, with four pyrazole ligands in the equatorial plane. The average Cu—N distance is 2.000 (1) Å. Two perchlorate ions are coordinated to copper in trans positions [Cu—O = 2.4163 (11) Å]

    Cdk5 regulates the phosphorylation of tyrosine 1472 NR2B and the surface expression of NMDA receptors

    NMDA receptors (NMDARs) are a major class of ionotropic glutamate receptors that can undergo activity-dependent changes in surface expression. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis is a mechanism by which the surface expression of NR2B-containing NMDA receptors is regulated. The C terminus of the NMDA receptor subunit NR2B contains the internalization motif YEKL, which is the binding site for the clathrin adaptor AP-2. The tyrosine (Y1472) within the YEKL motif is phosphorylated by the Src family of kinases and this phosphorylation inhibits the binding of AP-2 and promotes surface expression of NMDA receptors. Cdk5 is a serine/threonine kinase that has been implicated in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. Here we demonstrate that inhibition of Cdk5 results in increased phosphorylation of Y1472 NR2B at synapses and decreased binding of NR2B to beta2-adaptin, a subunit of AP-2, thus blocking the activity-dependent endocytosis of NMDA receptors. Furthermore, we show that inhibition of Cdk5 increases the binding of Src to postsynaptic density-95 (PSD-95), and that expression of PSD-95 facilitates the phosphorylation of Y1472 NR2B by Src. Together, these results suggest a model in which inhibition of Cdk5 increases the binding of Src to PSD-95 and the phosphorylation of Y1472 NR2B by Src, which results in decreased binding of NR2B to AP-2, and NR2B/NMDAR endocytosis. This study provides a novel molecular mechanism for the regulation of the surface expression of NR2B-containing NMDA receptors and gives insight into the Cdk5-dependent regulation of synaptic plasticity
