Published data suggest that encephalitis is one of the most fatal neurologic manifestations of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) involving both adult and pediatric patients. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) encephalitis is one of the most common causes of sporadic encephalitis. There have been cases of systemic and pulmonary reactivation of HSV due to immune dysregulation following COVID-19 infection. An 88-year-old woman diagnosed with Alzheimers disease was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with fever and general condition disorder. On admission, the patient with fever and neck stiffness was found to be positive for HSV DNA in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample studied with lumbar puncture (LP) and positive for COVID polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the nasopharyngeal swab sample taken together. While the COVID PCR test was positive in the CSF sample studied with LP performed on the 9th day of intensive care hospitalization, HSV DNA was found to be negative in the patient whose acyclovir treatment was continued. The COVID PCR test was also positive in the nasopharyngeal swab sample taken at the same time. Cardiac arrest occurred after sudden desaturation, and the patient was resuscitated for 6 min on the 11th day of ICU admission. Left frontotemporal epileptic activity in bedside electroencephalography was evaluated in favor of focal disorganization. In addition to frontotemporal lobe involvement, which is common in HSV and COVID-19 encephalitis, we want to report the coexistence of these two viruses. We believe that this case report should help professionals remind co-infections of HSV and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 to cure the morbidity appropriately

Objective:The World Health Organization has emphasized that as there is no specific anti-coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) treatment, supportive care according to disease severity is important. Previous studies have shown that acute kidney injury (AKI) develops in 30% of severe COVID-19 patients followed up in intensive care units and most these require renal replacement therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the COVID-19 prognosis, renal function, and organ systems of adult, severe COVID-19 patients treated with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and the effects on secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis with the additional application of absorption filters.Materials and Methods:A retrospective examination was made of the data of COVID-19 patients who applied for CRRT between 11.03.2020 and 15.06.2021. The demographic data of the patients were recorded together with the renal function test results before and after CRRT, and the biochemical parameters were included in the COVID-19 prognosis. Results:Positive changes were determined in the kidney functions with CRRT applied to patients who developed AKI. No statistically significant difference was observed in the biochemical parameters included in the COVID-19 prognosis. In the 14 patients who applied with hemoabsorption, the need for short-term inotropic support was reduced. In our study, the mortality of the patients who were treated with CRRT was 95% (2 patients transferred to the ward), while the average intensive care unit stay was 18.2±11 days. While improvement was detected in renal function tests with CRRT applied to patients with AKI, no statistically significant difference was found in biochemical parameters in the prognosis of COVID-19. While mortality was 92.8% in 14 patients who underwent hemoabsorption, a short-term improvement was observed in the need for inotropes in these patients. Conclusion:Although vaccinations are expected to definitively eliminate COVID-19, for critical COVID-19 patients for whom the treatment options are limited, it would seem rational to adopt immunomodulator strategies including extracorporeal blood purification and supportive treatment such as CRRT. The results of this study have shown that CRRT applied to severe COVID-19 patients who develop AKI is an effective treatment for kidney failure. However, the effect on the progression of COVID-19 could not be clearly shown

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects that personality characteristics (PC) of university students, as potential entrepreneurs, have on their entrepreneurship intentions (which are an important indicator of whether or not they will start new initiatives), and to determine the mediating role of lifelong learning tendencies. The study’s population consisted of approximately 4000 students at Erciyes University who had relatively high chances of becoming entrepreneurs in total, 924 students were reached. In the research, it was found that the participants’ personality characteristics and sub-dimensions had a significant but positive relationship with their entrepreneurial intentions. In the final findings of this study, it was found that lifelong learning tendencies have a partial mediating role in the relationship between the students’ personality characteristics and entrepreneurship tendencies. At this point, it was observed that the personality characteristics of individuals affect their entrepreneurship intentions; with the introduction of lifelong learning tendencies to the model, the effect of personality characteristics on entrepreneurial intentions decreased but remained significant. Keywords: personality characteristics; lifelong learning trends; entrepreneurship orientation; university</h1

Objectives: Daily living activities are generally impaired in dementia and have to be assessed by standardized instruments. The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research recommends the Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ) as a particularly useful method for initial assessment of functional impairment. The FAQ is a brief, informant-based questionnaire that evaluates performance based on ten complex activities of daily living. The aim of the present study is to determine the normative values for a FAQ on Turkish adult sample between ages 50 and over. Material and Method: The present study consists of two phases: Translation/ adaptation and standardization. In the first phase, the questionnaire was translated into Turkish and the FAQ items were adapted to Turkish culture. In the second phase, the trained clinicians administered the new form to the subjects (usually a family member) who have substantial personal knowledge of the adult’s prior and current behavior. Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) scores were used as inclusion criteria for healthy elderly adults. The research sample consists of 213 healthy subjects and their family members. The research sample consists of 213 subjects (109 female, 104 male). A 3x3x2 (age: 50-59 / 60-69 / 70 and over) x education (5- 8 years / 9-11 years / 12 years and over) x sex (female / male) factorial design was used in the analysis. Results: The 3x3x2 factorial ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of age and education for the total FAQ score. Main effect of sex was not significant. No interaction effect (age x sex, age x education, sex x education and age x sex x education) on FAQ scores was statistically significant. Discussion: This study provides normative data for a psychometric tool that reliably measures the activities of daily living in normal healthy subjects. It further demonstrates the necessity of considering age and education when assessing the activities of daily living. It should be the material of future research to extend the standardization on the FAQ
