A fuzzy multi-objective class based storage location assignment

    Get PDF
The required storage space and the material handing cost in a warehouse hinge on the storage implementation decision. Effects of storage area reduction on order picking and storage space cost are incorporated. Moreover, merchandises which are in the same shape and can be stored beside each other easily or goods that don't cause any danger like causing a fire if be in touch with each other, can be stored in one class together. In this paper first a multi-objective class based storage model is presented in which two objectives are considered; one is the sum of storage space cost and handing cost and the other is the quantitative objective "efficiency of storing products in one class". The demand rates and the second objective are evaluated with linguistic values. Fuzzy dynamic approach will be used to solve the proposed model considering an illustrative example to clarify it

A Memtic genetic algorithm for a redundancy allocation problem

    Get PDF
In general redundancy allocation problems the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined. Tavakkoli- Moghaddam presented a series-parallel redundancy allocation problem with mixing components (RAPMC) in which the redundancy strategy can be chosen for individual subsystems. In this paper, we present a bi-objective redundancy allocation when the redundancy strategies for subsystems are considered as a variable of the problem. As the problem belongs to the NP-hard class problems, we will present a new approach for the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGAII) and Memtic algorithm (MA) with each one to solve the multi-objective model

Increasing the reliability and the profit in a redundancy allocation problem

This paper proposes a new mathematical model for multi-objective redundancy allocation problem (RAP) without component mixing in each subsystem when the redundancy strategy can be chosen for individual subsystems. Majority of the mathematical model for the multi-objective redundancy allocation problems (MORAP) assume that the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined and fixed. In general, active redundancy has received more attention in the past. However, in practice both active and cold-standby redundancies may be used within a particular system design and the choice of the redundancy strategy becomes an additional decision variable. The proposed model for MORAP simultaneously maximizes the reliability and the net profit of the system. And finally, to clarify the proposed mathematical model a numerical example will be solved. Optimal lot sizing in screening processes with returnable defective items

This paper is an extension of Hsu and Hsu (Int J Ind Eng Comput 3(5):939\u2013948, 2012) aiming to determine the optimal order quantity of product batches that contain defective items with percentage nonconforming following a known probability density function. The orders are subject to 100 % screening process at a rate higher than the demand rate. Shortage is backordered, and defective items in each ordering cycle are stored in a warehouse to be returned to the supplier when a new order is received. Although the retailer does not sell defective items at a lower price and only trades perfect items (to avoid loss), a higher holding cost incurs to store defective items. Using the renewal-reward theorem, the optimal order and shortage quantities are determined. Some numerical examples are solved at the end to clarify the applicability of the proposed model and to compare the new policy to an existing one. The results show that the new policy provides better expected profit per time
