Chapter Posidonia oceanica monitoring system on the coast of Aegean Sea of Turkey
Seagrass monitoring is a basic tool for measuring the condition of meadows in parallel to the environmental conditions. Posidonia oceanica meadows are very sensitive to anthropogenic effects. In the present study, two monitoring stations of Posidonia oceanica meadows were established on the Aegean coasts of Turkey in the years 2018 and 2019, at 26 m depth in Ildır Bay (İzmir, Turkey), and at 33 m depth in Kara Ada (İzmir, Turkey). The P. oceanica meadows upper and lower limits were defined by balisage systems. In the laboratory, lepidochronological, morphometric, and phenological parameters were also studied
Türkiye'nin Ege Denizi kıyılarında dağılım gösteren sünger (Porifera) türlerinin taksonomik ve ekolojik özellikleri
Bu çalışma, Türkiye'nin Ege Denizi kıyılarında dağılım gösteren sünger türlerinin (Phylum: Porifera) taksonomik, ekolojik ve dağılım özelliklerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda, farklı derinlik ve biyotoplarda seçilen 36 kıyı ve 7 açık deniz istasyonlarından örneklemeler yapılmıştır. Kıyısal istasyonlarda örneklemeler tüplü ve serbest dalışlarla, açık deniz istasyonlarında dip trolü çekimleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Örneklerin faunistik analizleri sonucu 3 Sınıf, 17 Ordo ve 40 familyaya ait toplam 114 tür tespit edilmiş olup, bu türlerden, 10'u Ege Denizi, 9'u Doğu Akdeniz ve 16'sı Türkiye sünger faunası için yenidir. Araştırma bölgesinin genelinde, kıyısal istasyonlarda Crambe crambe (%65), Petrosia ficiformis (%62,5), Agelas oroides (%55), Chondrilla nucula (%52,5), Chondrosia reniformis (%52,5), Ircinia variabilis (%52,5), Sarcotragus foetidus (%50) ve Sarcotragus spinosulus (%50) en yüksek frekans değerine sahip türlerdir. İncelenen biyotoplar arasında taşlık / kayalık kommuniteler en yüksek tür sayısına (85 tür), taş mercanı (Cladocora caespitosa) ise en az tür sayısına (3 tür) sahiptir. Araştırma bölgesinde en fazla sünger türünün (73 tür) 10–20 m derinlikleri arasında tespit edildiği görülmüştür. Saptanan sünger türleri arasında Paraleucilla magna Akdeniz için istilacı yabancı bir türdür. Araştırma bölgesinde bulunan türlerin büyük çoğunluğunun (toplam tür sayının %71'i) Atlantik–Akdeniz dağılımlı olduğu saptanmıştır.This study was performed to determine the taxonomic, ecological and distributional features of sponges (Phylum: Porifera) species distributed along the Aegean Sea coast of Turkey. Within this framework, samplings were collected at 36 coastal and 7 offshore stations of different depths and biotopes. Benthic samplings were performed by scuba-diving and snorkelling in coastal stations and by bottom-trawling at offshore stations. As a result of the faunistic analysis of the samples, a total of 114 species belonging to 3 classes, 17 ordo and 40 families were determined,of which 10 species were new to the Aegean Sea, 9 to the Eastern Mediterranean, 16 to the coasts of Turkey. In the investigated area, Crambe crambe (65%), Petrosia ficiformis (62,5%), Agelas oroides (55%), Chondrilla nucula (52,5%), Chondrosia reniformis (52,5%), Ircinia variabilis (52,5%), Sarcotragus foetidus (50%) and Sarcotragus spinosulus (50%) were the highest frequency index values at coastal stations. Among the biotopes, stony / rocky communities were characterized by the highest number of species (85 species), whereas Cladocora caespitosa was represented by the lowest number of species (3 species). The majority of sponge species (73 species) were encountered at the depth interval 10-20 m. Among the sponges identified, Paraleucilla magna is an invasive alien species for the Mediterranean Sea. The majority of species (71% of total number of species) found in investigated area were the species of Atlanto–Mediterranean distribution
Ildır Körfezi'nde (Ege denizi) dağılım gösteren sünger (Porifera) türleri
Ildır Körfezi’nde dağılım gösteren sünger (Porifera) türlerinin taksonomik ve ekolojik özelliklerini saptamak amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada, 2011–2012 yıllarında 16 istasyonun farklı derinliklerinden (0–37 m) tüplü ve serbest dalış ile çok sayıda bentik örnek toplanmıştır. Bentik örneklerin incelenmesi sonunda, 3 klasis, 12 ordo, 25 familyaya ait toplam 44 sünger türü belirlenmiş olup, bunlardan 12’si (Sycon elegans, Oscarella lobularis, Cliona janitrix, Volzia albicans, Dotona pulchella, Terpios gelatinosa, Siphonodictyom infestum, Delectona madreporica, Corticum candelabrum, Dercitus (Stoeba) plicatus, Phorbas tenacior ve Ulosa stuposa) Türkiye faunası için yeni kayıttır. Araştırma bölgesinin genelinde Cliona celata (%94), Aplysina aerophoba (%88), Spirastrella cunctatrix (%88), Chondrosia reniformis (%75), Chondrilla nucula (%69), Ircinia variabilis (%69), Cliona viridis (%62), Sarcotragus foetidus (%50) ve Tethya aurantium (%50) en yüksek frekans değerine sahip türlerdir. İstasyonlarda 4 familyaya ait toplam 11 delici (bioeroder) sünger türü tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma bölgesinde en fazla sünger türü (40 tür) 0–10 m derinlikler arasında tespit edildiği görülür. Ildır Körfezi’nde bulunan türlerin büyük çoğunluğunun (toplam tür sayının %55’i) Atlantik– Akdeniz orijinli olduğu saptanmıştır
Updated checklist of sponges (Porifera) along the coasts of Turkey
WOS: 000344879100001This study compiled the data from previous papers emphasizing sponge species on the Turkish coasts. In total, 131 species belonging to 46 families have been reported: 82 species from the Aegean Sea, 63 species from the Sea of Marmara, 51 species from the Levantine Sea, and 13 species from the Black Sea. Among these species, 3 species are new records for the marine fauna of Turkey: Rhizaxinella elongata, Axinyssa digitata, and Terpios gelatinosa. Raspalia viminalis is a new record for the Sea of Marmara. The morphological and distributional features of 3 species are presented. Sponge (Porifera) species from the Mediterranean coast of Turkey (Levantine Sea, eastern Mediterranean), with a checklist of sponges from the coasts of Turkey

A total of 29 species belonging to 19 families were encountered, of which Phorbas plumosus is a new record for the eastern Mediterranean, 8 species are new records for the marine fauna of Turkey (Clathrina clathrus, Spirastrella cunctatrix, Desmacella inornata, Phorbas plumosus, Hymerhabdia intermedia, Haliclona fulva, Petrosia vansoesti, and Ircinia dendroides), and 19 species are new records for the Levantine Sea (C. clathrus, Sycon raphanus, Erylus discophorus, Alectona millari, Cliona celata, Diplastrella bistellata, Mycale contareni, Mycale cf. rotalis, Mycale lingua, D. inornata, P. plumosus, Phorbas fictitius, Lissodendoryx isodictyalis, Hymerhabdia intermedia, H. fulva, P vansoesti, I. dendroides, Sarcotragus spinosulus, and Aplysina aerophoba). The morphological and distributional features of the species that are new to the Turkish marine fauna are presented. Sponge species from ports of the inner and middle parts of Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean)
WOS:000605750600005Within a surveillance programme for the detection of invasive alien species, many benthic samples were randomly collected from several ports located in the inner and middle parts of Izmir Bay. A total of four sponge species (Sycon raphanus, Sycon ciliatum, Paraleucilla magna and Dysidea fragilis) were found on the artificial hard substrata. Paraleucilla magna, which is being newly recorded from the Aegean coast of Turkey, is an invasive alien species and very abundant almost at all ports, covering maximally 35% of surfaces sampled.
