    EPR study of copper(II) complexes in the matrix of titania gel modified with powder cellulose

    The character of the copper(II) distribution over the surface of titania gel modified with powder cellulose has been studied by EPR. Three types of copper(II) compounds have been identified: mononuclear complexes, magnetic associates, and copper(II) compounds that do not give rise to an observable EPR spectrum at the used frequency and temperature. The modification of titania gel has been shown to have an effect on the relative contents of these compounds. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2010

    Effect of the surface charge on the complexing and catalytic properties of Cu2+-containing composite materials based on zirconia and powdered cellulose

    Composite materials (CMs) based on zirconia xerogels and powdered cellulose (PC) were synthesized. The effect of the CM surface charge on their complexing properties with respect to Cu2+ ions and on the catalytic activity of the samples in model reactions of the decomposition of H2O 2 and the oxidative dehydrogenation of trimethylhydroquinone with atmospheric oxygen was analyzed. It was experimentally proved that the use of PC for the synthesis of ZrO2-based CMs, as in the case of previously studied CMs based on SiO2 and TiO2, leads to an increase in the specific surface area Ssp and a decrease in the negative electric potential of their surface. The surface charge, sorption method, and the composition of the buffer solution used for sorption have a significant effect on the copper(II) content in the CM phase, the distribution pattern, and the composition of the sorbed copper(II) compounds and on the catalytic activity of the synthesized Cu2+-containing CMs. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2014.This work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, (project no. 14 03 00898) and Program 211 of the Government of the Russian Federation (grant no. 02.03.21.0006)

    Population structure, resource potential and diagnostic features of raw materials of Saussurea controversa DC

    The life form and the ontogenesis of the perspective medicinal plant Saussurea controversa DC. (Asteraceae) are described. The species is considered as polycentric, perennial, summer-green, herbaceous polycarpic half-rosette plant with rhizome. The aerial part of the plant includes the polycyclic rosette vegetative and elongated generative shoots. In the ontogenesis, four periods and nine ontogenetic states are distinguished. The ontogenetic and vital structures of four  populations were studied in the vicinity of Efremkino village (Republic of Khakassia). Populations are incomplete with accumulation of virginal individuals and predominance of individuals of intermediate and high classes of vitality. Analysis of the distribution and resource research in the population with the highest density and area makes it possible to classify the species as the 3rd category of resource species due the necessity to observe the regime of sustainable use. The diagnostic features of the S. controversa’s raw material are the structure of the middle vein of the leaf which includes a large number of vascular-fibrous beams and the abaxial epidermis containing stomata of the anomocytous type and 4 types of trichomes

    Composite materials (CMs) were synthesized from silica and titania xerogels. The influence of the charged state of the CM surface on complexation with Cu2+ ions and the catalytic activity of the obtained samples in model oxidative dehydrogenation of trimethylhydroquinone with air oxygen was analyzed. Using powder cellulose in the synthesis of CMs increased the specific surface of inorganic dioxides and lowered the negative electric potential of the CM surface. This caused a redistribution of the ratio between different types of copper structures formed in the samples during the copper sorption and led to the catalytic activity of the CMs. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

    Structural uterine changes in postpartum endometritis in cows

    Aim: The purpose of this work was to study the dynamics of structural manifestations of acute cases of postpartum endometritis in cows. Materials and Methods: The light and electron microscopy methods were used when studying structural changes in the endometrium in case of postpartum endometritis in seven cows. Sections of endometrial specimens for light microscopy, 5-7 μm thick, were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and also by Van Gieson's. For electron microscopy, semi-thin sections were stained with Azur-2 in combination with basic fuchsin, as well as contrasting by lead citrate and uranyl acetate. Results: As a result of the study, we have established the following: Necrobiosis of the epithelial layer of the mucosa, cellular infiltration with shaped elements of blood in the functional layer, swelling of the cells of the uterine gland, and single microbial cells on the surface of the mucosa. We have noted edema of the stroma of the functional layer of the endometrium, swelling of the epithelial layer of the endometrial mucosa, and swelling of fibroblastic and lymphoid cells. Ultrastructural changes in endometrial cells in case of acute postpartum endometritis in cows are accompanied by the destruction of microvilli on the apical surface of the epithelium, an abundance of coccal microflora on the surface of the epithelium, necrobiosis of epithelial cells, and partial edema of the nucleus, and cytoplasm of the histiocyte. Conclusion: We had established that acute purulent-catarrhal dystrophic processes were observed in the structural organization of the endometrium. In the depth of catarrhal mucus on the surface of the endometrium, there was an abundance of bacterial flora, with diplococci being prevalent. In ultrastructural organization of the endometrium, we observed deep dystrophic and necrobiotic processes in the parenchyma and endometrial stroma, as well as exudative processes with a change in the integrity of the microcirculatory bed. Thus, to prevent an inflammatory process from turning into a latent form, it is necessary to detect acute postpartum endometritis promptly using diagnostic methods taking into account the obtained parameters of the dynamics of structural changes in the uterine tissues
