Exclusive ppnnπ+π+pp \to nn \pi^{+}\pi^{+} reaction at LHC and RHIC

We evaluate differential distributions for the four-body ppnnπ+π+p p \to n n \pi^+ \pi^+ reaction. The amplitude for the process is calculated in the Regge approach including many diagrams. We make predictions for possible future experiments at RHIC and LHC energies. Very large cross sections are found which is partially due to interference of a few mechanisms. Presence of several interfering mechanisms precludes extraction of the elastic π+π+\pi^+ \pi^+ scattering cross section. Absorption effects are estimated. Differential distributions in pseudorapidity, rapidity, invariant two-pion mass, transverse-momentum and energy distributions of neutrons are presented for proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 500 GeV (RHIC) and s\sqrt{s} = 0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV (LHC). Cross sections with experimental cuts are presented.Comment: 22 pages, 18 figures, calculations have been corrected, new processes added, discussion expanded in print in Phys. Rev.

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis still remains a mysterious problem greatky due to significant degree of divergence in definitions.Materials and methods. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis incidence and its structure have been analyzed for Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts for the last 10 years – from 2006 to 2015.Results. In 2006 in Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts there were 871 patients suffering from isolated extrapulmonary tuberculosis, the structure of the forms was as follows: tuberculosis of central nervous system (CNS) – 5.7%; bone and joint tuberculosis – 28.7%; urogenital tuberculosis – 35.9%; tuberculosis of peripheral lymph nodes – 15.8%; ocular tuberculosis – 5.2%, other forms – 8.7%. Starting from 2008 ocular tuberculosis was excluded from reporting, despite the fact that the number of such patients was almost the same as the number of CNS tuberculosis cases. 10 years later in 2015 isolated forms of tuberculosis were diagnosed in 699 (-172) people, forms were the following: CNS tuberculosis – 10.6%, double increase; bone and joint tuberculosis – 39.8%, 1.5 fold increase; urogenital tuberculosis – 24.5%, 1.5 fold decrease respectively. Number of those suffering from tuberculosis of peripheral lymph nodes remained the same – 14.2%, other forms inclusive tuberculosis of salivary glands, pancreas, gall bladder, intestine, breast, skin etc. increased respectively up to 11%.Conclusions. The problem of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Russia as in the whole world still needs to be resolved. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis incidence greatly depends on the number of properly trained specialists and sufficient technical facilities of dispensaries. The following changes are to be made to Form 8: firstly, urological and genital tuberculosis cases are to be recorded separately; secondly, all forms are to be recorded separately according to HIV status

The purpose of this study is to analyze the results of the professional development program “Digital Pedagogy of the Modern University” held at the Philosophy Department of Moscow State University. In today’s increasingly mediated everyday life by digital technologies, the Internet, and virtual communicative environments, traditional education is getting a new  lease of life. While digital devices have long been an integral part of modern  life, social, cultural and educational institutions are struggling to keep up with the rapid pace of change. As the coronavirus spread across the world, universities moved classes online to prevent coronavirus spread. The program “Digital Pedagogy of the Modern University” was aimed not at the permanent movement from face-to-face to online education but the desire to implement an interim solution for emergency remote teaching and  discuss the challenges. During the program, the organizers considered both  methodological issues of creating courses and current trends in educational development, psychological aspects of network communications in a distance learning, and much more. The emphasis was made on the reflection  of moving to online teaching. The survey on the results of the program showed that the impact of the experience of distance learning was a complex phenomenon. This study may serve as a basis for further  discussion

High-pressure phase relations of Bi2_{2}Sr2_{2}CaCu2_{2}O8+δ_{8+\delta} single crystals

We have investigated the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature TcT_{c} up to 18 GPa of Bi2_{2}Sr2_{2}CaCu2_{2}O8+δ_{8+\delta} single crystals ranging from the highly underdoped through the nearly optimally doped to the highly overdoped level. For all three samples studied, TcT_{c} is found to increase initially and then saturate at a critical pressure PcP_{c} but decrease modestly with further compression. Oxygen doping tends to reduce the increase in TcT_{c} and PcP_{c}. A new high-pressure phase diagram between the saturated TcT_{c} and PcP_{c} is then obtained. Theoretical interpretation is given by using the competition between the hole carrier density and pairing interaction strength based on the high-pressure transport data of the resistivity and Hall coefficient in this system.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Physical Review

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome as an accident risk factor in professional drivers in Yekaterinburg. Dangerous Sleep (DS-1) study

    Get PDF
About 20% of all road traffic accidents may be associated with falling asleep while driving. This may be caused by sleep disorders leading to daytime sleepiness, the most common of which is obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Objective: to study somatic and mental health, sleep disorders, OSAS in particular, in the population of Russian drivers (Sverdlovsk Region). Patients and methods. The descriptive cohort «Dangerous Sleep» (DS-1) study of 20 professional drivers having more than 5-year driving experience was conducted at the Clinical Institute of the Brain. The mean age of the drivers was 45.8 years. They underwent somatic evaluation for cardiovascular risk factors and a psychological examination involving a risk readiness diagnostic procedure, the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and an electroencephalographic examination. A somnological examination assumed testing using the Epworth sleepiness scale, polysomnography, or overnight pulse metry. Results and discussion. 30% of the drivers were found to have marked attention disorders and an inability to adapt to extreme conditions, which create a risk for professional duties. The predisposing factors were noted to be alcohol addiction, overweight, and OSAS, the rate of the latter proved to be higher than that in the general population of able-bodied men. It was shown that a somnological examination should be obligatorily performed while hiring professional drivers, particularly to long hauliers. The drivers having a long length of experience, in whom a periodic examination detects sleep disorders, should be treated for somatic diseases and should also have individual working schedules to rule out their long night-time driving
