Freezing transitions in non-Fellerian particle systems
Non-Fellerian processes show phenomena that are unseen in standard
interacting particle systems. We consider freezing transitions in
one-dimensional non-Fellerian processes which are built from the abelian
sandpile additions to which in one case, spin flips are added, and in another
case, the so called anti-sandpile subtractions. In the first case and as a
function of the sandpile addition rate, there is a sharp transition from a
non-trivial invariant measure to the invariant measure of the sandpile process.
For the combination sandpile plus anti-sandpile, there is a sharp transition
from one frozen state to the other anti-stat
Euler hydrodynamics of one-dimensional attractive particle systems
We consider attractive irreducible conservative particle systems on
, without necessarily nearest-neighbor jumps or explicit invariant
measures. We prove that for such systems, the hydrodynamic limit under Euler
time scaling exists and is given by the entropy solution to some scalar
conservation law with Lipschitz-continuous flux. Our approach is a
generalization of Bahadoran et al. [Stochastic Process. Appl. 99 (2002) 1--30],
from which we relax the assumption that the process has explicit invariant
measures.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/009117906000000115 in the

Analysis of Energy Conservation Options for USDOE Child Development Center, Final Summary Report
This report presents the results of a study that verifies the energy savings due to the individual
ECOs through the use of a calibrated DOE-2 simulation. The results show that roughly 73% of the savings estimated by the GSA architect can be accounted for by the calibrated simulation. This compares very well when one considers that the large differences were contributed by the envelope improvements and the clerestory windows. If these two ECOs were omitted, 90% of the savings can be accounted for by the calibrated simulation. The U.S.D.O.E. Forrestal Child Development Center (CDC) was designed to be a "showpiece" model building. Its construction included energy efficient features such as efficient lighting, a photovoltaic system, an energy management system, lighting controls, envelope improvements, clerestory windows, energy efficient heat pumps, and a solar hot water system. The architect's estimate of the energy savings from these measures totaled 31.6 million Watt-hours per year (MWh/yr), an annual savings of about 0.05/kWh). This study calculated a total annual energy savings of 23.2 MWh per year for the CDC; a savings of $1,160
Supercriticality conditions for asymmetric zero-range process with sitewise disorder
We discuss necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of

Prevalence and Predictor of Exclusive Breastfeeding among Mothers of 0 to 6 months Infants from Pastoralists and Hunters’ Community in Tanzania; A Community Based Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Initiating breastfeeding during the first hour after birth and continuing breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months prevents childhood infections such as diarrhoea. Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) for the first 6 months of life of the baby is recognised globally as the best and the most effective intervention to ensure the survival of babies. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of EBF and its predictors among mothers of 0 to 6 months infants from pastoralists and hunters’ community in Manyara region-Tanzania.
Methods: This was a community-based analytical cross-sectional study that involved 342 mothers of 0 to 6 months infants who were randomly selected through 4 stage multistage sampling technique. Data was collected using an intervieweradministered questionnaire. Collected data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Binary Logistic Regression analysis was used to establish factors associated with EBF practices.
Results: The prevalence of EBF among postnatal women from hunters and pastoralists societies was 47.1% at 95% CI=41.7%-52.5%. After adjusted for confounders, the predictors of EBF practice were age of infants (0-1 months, AOR= 2.838 at 95% CI = 1.326-6.075, p=.007), age of mothers (26-35 years, AOR=1.851 at 95% CI= 1.059-3.234, p=.031), Level of education of infants’ mothers (primary education, AOR= 2.374 at 95% CI= 1.321-4.265, p=.004) and knowledge on exclusive breast feeding, AOR=2.51 at 95% CI= 1.435-4.393, p=.001.
Conclusion: Majority of mothers from pastoralists’ and hunters’ societies were not practising EBF. Predictors of EBF practice were; the age of infants, maternal age, level of education of the mother and knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding. Poor EBF practice was mainly contributed to low level of knowledge about the EBF. The low level of knowledge could have been contributed by poor access to maternal services. Nature of living (lack of permanent settlement) of the study population could have contributed to low access to maternal services. An innovative interventional study is highly recommended to come up with strategies that will improve knowledge on EBF and practice of EB
Advanced DOE-2 Calibration Procedures: A Technical Reference Manual
This manual outlines the procedures to collect data, poll the datalogger, and process the data. The processed data is then used with a calibrated DOE-2 input file using statistical graphing routines for the U.S.D.O.E. Forrestal Child Development Center. Appendix A contains the data processing routines. Appendix B contains the final calibrated input file. Appendix C contains processing and column merging routines. Appendix D contains the SAS graphical routines. Appendix E contains a solar conversion routine that converts data collected at an 18 degree south facing tilt to global horizontal solar data. Appendix F contains information on the channel tables for the loggers located at the Forrestal building and the Forrestal Child Development Center
Semi-infinite TASEP with a Complex Boundary Mechanism
We consider a totally asymmetric exclusion process on the positive half-line.
When particles enter in the system according to a Poisson source, Liggett has
computed all the limit distributions when the initial distribution has an
asymptotic density. In this paper we consider systems for which particles enter
at the boundary according to a complex mechanism depending on the current
configuration in a finite neighborhood of the origin. For this kind of models,
we prove a strong law of large numbers for the number of particles entered in
the system at a given time. Our main tool is a new representation of the model
as a multi-type particle system with infinitely many particle types
