Optical spectra, crystal-field parameters, and magnetic susceptibility of the new multiferroic NdFe3(BO3)4

We report high-resolution optical absorption spectra for NdFe3(BO3)4 trigonal single crystal which is known to exhibit a giant magnetoelectric effect below the temperature of magnetic ordering TN = 33 K. The analysis of the temperature-dependent polarized spectra reveals the energies and, in some cases, symmetries and exchange splittings of Nd3+ 84 Kramers doublets. We perform crystal-field calculations starting from the exchange-charge model, obtain a set of six real crystal-field parameters, and calculate wave functions and magnetic g-factors. In particular, the values g(perpendicular) = 2.385, g(parallel) = 1.376 were found for the Nd3+ ground-state doublet. We obtain Bloc=7.88 T and |JFN|= 0.48 K for the values of the local effective magnetic field at liquid helium temperatures at the Nd3+ site and the Nd - Fe exchange integral, respectively, using the experimentally measured Nd3+ ground-state splitting of 8.8 cm-1. To check reliability of our set of crystal field parameters we model the magnetic susceptibility data from literature. A dimer containing two nearest-neighbor iron ions in the spiral chain is considered to partly account for quasi-one-dimensional properties of iron borates, and then the mean-field approximation is used. The results of calculations with the exchange parameters for Fe3+ ions Jnn = -6.25 K (intra-chain interactions) and Jnnn = -1.92 K (inter-chain interactions) obtained from fitting agree well with the experimental data.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, 2 table

Optical properties, electron-phonon coupling, and Raman scattering of vanadium ladder compounds

The electronic structure of two V-based ladder compounds, the quarter-filled NaV$_2$O$_5$ in the symmetric phase and the iso-structural half-filled CaV$_2$O$_5$ is investigated by ab initio calculations. Based on the bandstructure we determine the dielectric tensor $\epsilon(\omega)$ of these systems in a wide energy range. The frequencies and eigenvectors of the fully symmetric A$_{g}$ phonon modes and the corresponding electron-phonon and spin-phonon coupling parameters are also calculated from first-principles. We determine the Raman scattering intensities of the A$_g$ phonon modes as a function of polarization and frequency of the exciting light. All results, i.e. shape and magnitude of the dielectric function, phonon frequencies and Raman intensities show very good agreement with available experimental data.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure

The formation of subjectivity and norms in the process of adaptation of young employees at the enterprise

The aim of the publication is to determine the interrelation of the formation of subjective qualities and norms process of adaptation of young employees at the enterprise.Methods. The research methodology involves a comprehensive combination of the theoretical analysis and the results of applied research at the enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region. The dialectical method and comparative analysis are used.Results and theoretical novelty. The questions of adaptation of young employees at the enterprise are considered. The concepts of «subjectivity» and «norms» in philosophy are analyzed. Subjectivity is presented as a personal basis of social activity of the young worker at the entity; regulations – as a method of adaptation of the personality, individual to that community in which it emerged to be. The characteristics of the youth working at the industrial enterprise are disclosed on the basis of socio-philosophical analysis; youth policy at the industrial enterprises is described; the formation of values and norms of young workers in the process of adapting the enterprise is observed. The personal subjectivity as the basis of social activity of the young worker in the enterprise is demonstrated. It is shown that relevance of subject qualities forming and regulations at youth is caused not only by the need of development of the identity of young workers, but also by economic safety of industrial enterprises wellbeing where their working career begins.Practical significance consists in the social-philosophical substantiation of interrelation of formation of subjective qualities and norms in the process of adaptation of young employees in the company, of the main provisions for the development of programs of adaptation of young employees at the enterprise; in providing the teaching social and humanitarian disciplines for bachelors and masters majoring in «Organization of Work with Youth». Цель изложенного в статье исследования – определить взаимосвязь формирования субъектных качеств и освоения индивидом корпоративных норм в процессе адаптации молодых работников на предприятии. Методология и методы. Методология работы состояла в комплексном сочетании теоретического анализа и результатов прикладных исследований на предприятиях Свердловской области. Использовались диалектический метод и сравнительный анализ данных. Результаты и теоретическая новизна. Рассмотрены аспекты адаптации молодых работников на предприятии. Раскрыта сущность философских понятий «субъектность» и «нормы». Субъектность представлена как личностная основа социальной активности молодого работника на предприятии; нормы – как способ адаптации личности, индивида к той общности, в которой он находится. На основе социально-философского анализа вскрыты особенности молодежи, работающей на промышленном предприятии; описана молодежная политика данных предприятий; прослежено становление ценностей молодых работников и присвоение ими в процессе адаптации норм, принятых на производстве. Продемонстрирована личностно развивающая природа соревнования, его роль в формировании субъектных качеств. Показано, что актуальность формирования субъектных качеств и норм у молодежи обусловлена не только необходимостью развития личности молодых работников, но и экономической безопасностью и благополучием промышленных предприятий, на которых начинается их трудовая биография. Практическая значимость исследования заключается в предложениях решения проблем реализации молодежной политики в промышленном секторе экономики. Материалы статьи могут служить базой для разработки программ адаптации молодых работников на предприятии и использоваться при преподавании социально-гуманитарных дисциплин для бакалавров и магистров по специальности «Организация работы с молодежью»

VOLUNTEERING AS A FACTOR IN THE FORMATION OF MORAL STANDARDS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

Introduction. Volunteering is a socially significant activity, which contributes to solving separate acute social issues and showing the best qualities of an individual – compassion, ability to sympathise and readiness to provide assistance to people in need. Through volunteering, a person achieves self-esteem and a feeling of his or her relevance and usefulness. Under the present circumstances, aspects of the study of volunteering and youth attitudes to this concept are especially relevant. Over the last decades, social transformations have occurred, leading to a reassessment of the value system, and, consequently, society has lost its moral compass. Participation in volunteering can become one of the effective factors in the formation of ethical standards and humanistic value orientations among young people. The aim of the research was to investigate the educational potential of volunteering through studying the attitudes of young people.Methodology and research methods. The research was based on axiological and sociological approaches. In the course of the research, the following methods were used: review and synthesis of historical-philosophical and sociological literature, sociological group face-to-face surveys, and comparative analysis of statistical data. Results and scientific novelty. The authors justified the necessity for moral education of working youth through the involvement of young people in realizing charitable projects and organising philanthropic events. The authors highlighted the aspects of conducting charitable activities in one of the socially-oriented enterprises of the Urals – Sinarsky Pipe Plant. A questionnaire based survey conducted among young workers of that metal manufacturer revealed the fact of mass participation in various charitable activities (out of the sample seize of 180 young workers, 89% of respondents admitted their involvement in philanthropic activities). The respondents expressed interest in charitable projects and readiness to spend own time, energy and money for rendering disinterested targeted assistance to children with special needs and children with disabilities (56.3%), to elderly people living in difficult life situations (52.5%), to stray animals (50.0%), to children suffering from cancer (49.3%). It was concluded that charity work forms ethical standards at young people, and develops altruistic qualities such as disinterestedness and responsiveness, as well as civil consciousness. Practical significance. The research outcomes can be used when preparing, organising and holding charitable work with the aim of bringing up morally and ethically educated young workers, as well as students of educational institutions of different levels.Введение. Благотворительность – форма общественно значимой деятельности, которая позволяет решить отдельные острые социальные проблемы и проявить лучшие качества личности – милосердие, способность к сочувствию и готовность к оказанию помощи нуждающимся в поддержке согражданам. Занимаясь благотворительностью, человек обретает самоуважение и чувство собственной значимости и полезности. Вопросы изучения благотворительности и отношения к ней молодежи в современных условиях особенно актуальны, поскольку в связи с социальными трансформациями последних десятилетий произошла переоценка системы ценностей и обществом были утрачены многие моральные ориентиры. Участие в благотворительности может стать одним из действенных факторов формирования у молодых людей нравственных норм и гуманистических ценностных установок. Цель представленного в статье исследования – определить воспитательный потенциал благотворительности посредством приобщения к ней работающей молодежи. Методология и методики. Работа проводилась на базе аксиологического и социологического подходов. В ходе эмпирического исследования использовались обзор и обобщение содержания историко-философской и социологической литературы; метод социологического группового очного анкетирования; сравнительный анализ статистических данных.Результаты и научная новизна. Обоснована необходимость нравственного воспитания работающей молодежи посредством ее привлечения к реализации благотворительных проектов и проведению филантропических акций. Освещены аспекты благотворительной деятельности как важной составляющей молодежной политики одного из крупных социально-ориентированных предприятий Урала – Синарского трубного завода. Анкетный опрос молодых работников данного металлургического предприятия выявил факт их массового участия в различных благотворительных мероприятиях (о своей причастности к филантропической деятельности заявили 89,8% респондентов из общей выборки, составившей 180 человек). Опрошенные выразили заинтересованность в благотворительных проектах и готовность тратить свои личные время, силы и средства на оказание бескорыстной адресной помощи детям с ограниченными возможностями здоровья и детям-инвалидам (56,3%), пожилым людям, попавшим в трудную жизненную ситуацию (52,5%), бездомным животным (50,0%), детям с онкологическими заболеваниями (49,3%). Сделан вывод о том, что участие в благотворительности формирует у молодых людей нравственные нормы и развивает такие альтруистические качества, как бескорыстность и отзывчивость, а также гражданское самосознание. Практическая значимость. Материалы публикации можно использовать для подготовки, организации и проведения благотворительных акций с целью воспитания работающей молодежи, а также студентов учебных заведений разного уровня
