Comment on ``Solution of Classical Stochastic One-Dimensional Many-Body Systems''

In a recent Letter, Bares and Mobilia proposed the method to find solutions of the stochastic evolution operator H=H0+γLH1H=H_0 + {\gamma\over L} H_1 with a non-trivial quartic term H1H_1. They claim, ``Because of the conservation of probability, an analog of the Wick theorem applies and all multipoint correlation functions can be computed.'' Using the Wick theorem, they expressed the density correlation functions as solutions of a closed set of integro-differential equations. In this Comment, however, we show that applicability of Wick theorem is restricted to the case γ=0\gamma = 0 only.Comment: 1 page, revtex style, comment on paper Phys. Rev. Limits on MeV Dark Matter from the Effective Number of Neutrinos

Thermal dark matter that couples more strongly to electrons and photons than to neutrinos will heat the electron-photon plasma relative to the neutrino background if it becomes nonrelativistic after the neutrinos decouple from the thermal background. This results in a reduction in N_eff below the standard-model value, a result strongly disfavored by current CMB observations. Taking conservative lower bounds on N_eff and on the decoupling temperature of the neutrinos, we derive a bound on the dark matter particle mass of m_\chi > 3-9 MeV, depending on the spin and statistics of the particle. For p-wave annihilation, our limit on the dark matter particle mass is stronger than the limit derived from distortions to the CMB fluctuation spectrum produced by annihilations near the epoch of recombination.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, discussion added, references added and updated, labels added to figure, to appear in Phys. Chemical Weed Control in Direct Seeded Rice: The Evaluation of Selected Herbicides for Phytotoxicity to the Rice Plant

    Get PDF
The phytotoxic effect of 2,4-D amine, 2,4-DIBE-butachlor; butachlor, benthiocarb and molinate on rice plants were assessed. Applications of the herbicides at different time resulted in severe phytotoxicity when applied before seeding. Early postemergent applications were also generally phytotoxic, adversely affecting plant growth and grain yield. Late applications 8 to 10 weeks after seeding were least injurious. Among the herbicides, molinate was the least phytotoxic

Nonequilibrium phase transition on a randomly diluted lattice

We show that the interplay between geometric criticality and dynamical fluctuations leads to a novel universality class of the contact process on a randomly diluted lattice. The nonequilibrium phase transition across the percolation threshold of the lattice is characterized by unconventional activated (exponential) dynamical scaling and strong Griffiths effects. We calculate the critical behavior in two and three space dimensions, and we also relate our results to the recently found infinite-randomness fixed point in the disordered one-dimensional contact process.Comment: 4 pages, 1 eps figure, final version as publishe

Controlling spin in an electronic interferometer with spin-active interfaces

We consider electronic current transport through a ballistic one-dimensional quantum wire connected to two ferromagnetic leads. We study the effects of the spin-dependence of interfacial phase shifts (SDIPS) acquired by electrons upon scattering at the boundaries of the wire. The SDIPS produces a spin splitting of the wire resonant energies which is tunable with the gate voltage and the angle between the ferromagnetic polarizations. This property could be used for manipulating spins. In particular, it leads to a giant magnetoresistance effect with a sign tunable with the gate voltage and the magnetic field applied to the wire.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. to be published in Europhysics Letter
