Calculation of shear viscosity using Green-Kubo relations within a parton cascade

The shear viscosity of a gluon gas is calculated using the Green-Kubo relation. Time correlations of the energy-momentum tensor in thermal equilibrium are extracted from microscopic simulations using a parton cascade solving various Boltzmann collision processes. We find that the pQCD based gluon bremsstrahlung described by Gunion-Bertsch processes significantly lowers the shear viscosity by a factor of 3-8 compared to elastic scatterings. The shear viscosity scales with the coupling as 1/(alpha_s^2\log(1/alpha_s)). For a constant coupling constant the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio has no dependence on temperature. Replacing the pQCD-based collision angle distribution of binary scatterings by an isotropic form decreases the shear viscosity by a factor of 3.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure

Dynamics of the Free Surface of a Conducting Liquid in a Near-Critical Electric Field

Near-critical behavior of the free surface of an ideally conducting liquid in an external electric field is considered. Based on an analysis of three-wave processes using the method of integral estimations, sufficient criteria for hard instability of a planar surface are formulated. It is shown that the higher-order nonlinearities do not saturate the instability, for which reason the growth of disturbances has an explosive character.Comment: 19 page

Anomalous Hall effect for the phonon heat conductivity in paramagnetic dielectric

The theory of anomalous Hall effect for the heat transfer in a paramagnetic dielectric, discovered experimentally in [1], is developed. The appearance of the phonon heat flux normal to both the temperature gradient and the magnetic field is connected with the interaction of magnetic ions with the crystal field oscillations. In crystals with an arbitrary phonon spectrum this interaction creates the elliptical polarization of phonons. The kinetics related to phonon scattering induced by the spin-phonon interaction determines an origin of the off-diagonal phonon density matrix. The combination of the both factors is decisive for the phenomenon under consideration.Comment: 5 pages; typos and abstract correcte

Quantum dynamics in canonical and micro-canonical ensembles. Part I. Anderson localization of electrons

The new numerical approach for consideration of quantum dynamics and calculations of the average values of quantum operators and time correlation functions in the Wigner representation of quantum statistical mechanics has been developed. The time correlation functions have been presented in the form of the integral of the Weyl's symbol of considered operators and the Fourier transform of the product of matrix elements of the dynamic propagators. For the last function the integral Wigner- Liouville's type equation has been derived. The numerical procedure for solving this equation combining both molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods has been developed. For electrons in disordered systems of scatterers the numerical results have been obtained for series of the average values of the quantum operators including position and momentum dispersions, average energy, energy distribution function as well as for the frequency dependencies of tensor of electron conductivity and permittivity according to quantum Kubo formula. Zero or very small value of static conductivity have been considered as the manifestation of Anderson localization of electrons in 1D case. Independent evidence of Anderson localization comes from the behaviour of the calculated time dependence of position dispersion.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figure

Gas-liquid critical point in ionic fluids

Based on the method of collective variables we develop the statistical field theory for the study of a simple charge-asymmetric 1:z1:z primitive model (SPM). It is shown that the well-known approximations for the free energy, in particular DHLL and ORPA, can be obtained within the framework of this theory. In order to study the gas-liquid critical point of SPM we propose the method for the calculation of chemical potential conjugate to the total number density which allows us to take into account the higher order fluctuation effects. As a result, the gas-liquid phase diagrams are calculated for z=24z=2-4. The results demonstrate the qualitative agreement with MC simulation data: critical temperature decreases when zz increases and critical density increases rapidly with zz.Comment: 18 pages, 1 figur

Information theory in the study of anisotropic radiation

Information theory is used to perform a thermodynamic study of non equilibrium anisotropic radiation. We limit our analysis to a second-order truncation of the moments, obtaining a distribution function which leads to a natural closure of the hierarchy of radiative transfer equations in the so-called variable Eddington factor scheme. Some Eddington factors appearing in the literature can be recovered as particular cases of our two-parameter Eddington factor. We focus our attention in the study of the thermodynamic properties of such systems and relate it to recent nonequilibrium thermodynamic theories. Finally we comment the possibility of introducing a nonequilibrium chemical potential for photons.Comment: 1 eps figure upon request by e-mail, to appear in Journal of Physics

Formation of singularities on the surface of a liquid metal in a strong electric field

The nonlinear dynamics of the free surface of an ideal conducting liquid in a strong external electric field is studied. It is establish that the equations of motion for such a liquid can be solved in the approximation in which the surface deviates from a plane by small angles. This makes it possible to show that on an initially smooth surface for almost any initial conditions points with an infinite curvature corresponding to branch points of the root type can form in a finite time.Comment: 14 page
