Inhibitory mechanism of influence of thyroid hormones on cognitive function of the brain.

In experiments on young rats there were studied changes in the fatty acid spectrum of fraction of  free fatty acids (FFA) of neocortex and hippocampus in conditions of thyroid dysfunction. Elevated levels of thyroid hormones caused accumulation of polyunsaturated linoleic and linolenic acids in the neocortex by 2 times, in the hippocampus – by 52%. State of hypothyroidism also contributed to the increase of C18: 2,3 in the neocortex by 74.4%. Growth of share of unsaturated fatty acid fraction in the content of fatty acid spectrum of neocortex also was accompanied by decrease in saturated C16:0 and C21:0 by 25% and 36% respectively. Increase of the level of unsaturated fatty acids fraction of the cerebral cortex is possibly associated with the decrease in "unsaturation" structure of lipids, which in its turn may enhance serotonergic synaptic activity. Research of concentration of neuromediator amino acids in neocortex showed increase of serotonin content both in conditions of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. In conditions of hyperthyroidism increased content of GABA was observed. Activity of serotonin- and GABA- ergic neurotransmitter systems of the brain in conditions of hyperthyroidism can be considered as increase of inhibitory processes in the  effect of feedback. In conditions of experimental hypothyroidism activation of the inhibitory effects of CNS serotonergic system may be one of the ways to reduce the metabolism

A statistical retrospective analysis of the results of treatment of patients undergoing inpatient treatment in the surgical clinic, proctology and urology departments for 5 years was conducted, total number of patients – 27771, of them operated – 14849 (53.5%), postoperative mortality – 448 patients (3.0%), the overall mortality – 989 patients (3.6%). According to the analysis of the medical documentation, the total number of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) was 98 (0.35%), the number of patients diagnosed during treatment – 56 (57.1%), at the time of pathoanatomical examination – 42 (42.9%); in 72 patients PE was directly responsible for death, 26 patients were cured by conservative methods. Of 98 patients with PE in 56 (56.1%), the main disease was oncological disease, in most cases in neglected form with distant metastases. A reduction in postoperative lethality by 40% was obtained, the reason for which, in our opinion, are: mandatory adherence to the recommended timing of the prevention of acute thromboembolic complications; prolongation of the prophylaxis term in patients who have undergone major surgical interventions or with postoperative complications that lead to a prolonged limitation of the patients' motor activity; a wider use of low molecular weight heparins

Ferroplasmas: Magnetic Dust Dynamics in a Conducting Fluid

We consider a dusty plasma, in which the dust particles have a magnetic dipole moment. A Hall-MHD type of model, generalized to account for the intrinsic magnetization, is derived. The model is shown to be energy conserving, and the energy density and flux is derived. The general dispersion relation is then derived, and we show that kinetic Alfv\'en waves exhibit an instability for a low temperature and high density plasma. We discuss the implication of our results.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur

Algorithm for determining the authenticity of biomedical cell preparations containing mesenchymal stem cells

The use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which have a pronounced immunomodulatory activity, is a promising direction in the development of biomedical cell preparations (BMCPs). In oncohematology, the use of BMCPs containing MSCs is aimed at supporting hematopoiesis during cotransplantation with hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and suppressing immune conflicts during allogeneic unrelated transplantation and severe autoimmune processes. An obligatory stage of registration of BMCPs is confirmation of the identity of the MSC cell line (CL), which includes the establishment of morphological characteristics, evaluation of the expression of specific markers and proteins, and confirmation of the genetic stability of CL during cultivation. Determination of markers of genetic stability is possible using various methods, however, according to the recommendations of the American National Standardization Institute, the standard is the analysis of short tandem repeats (STR analysis). The purpose of the study is to develop an algorithm for determining the authenticity of BMCPs containing MSCs, including STR analysis. Material and methods. Identification of MSC cells in BMCP was performed according to the criteria of the International Society for Cell Therapy. Viable cells were counted in a Goryaev chamber. Immunophenotypic characteristics of MSCs were determined by flow cytometry. The level of production of specific proteins was assessed using enzyme immunoassay. Genetic stability markers were identified by STR analysis. Results and discussion. The methods were tested in triplicate for ten BMCP samples to confirm the reproducibility and reliability of the results. The developed algorithm for determining the authenticity of BMCP has a high accuracy, as it includes the STR analysis technique, which makes it possible to identify 19 polymorphic STR markers located on different alleles. Using the method will allow BMCP manufacturers to go through the procedure of state registration of drugs

The zirconium-aluminium oxide and zirconium-containing calcium aluminate materials of different composition were prepared. Their activity in the process of methanol dehydration was investigated. It was found that their activity depends on the acidic properties of the surface of the synthesized materials, which in turn is determined by the ratio of components. It was concluded that the proposed systems can be promising catalysts for obtaining dimethyl ether.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a major infl ammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), associated with a broad spectrum of physical, psychological, and social impairments. High-dose immunosuppressive therapy (HDIT) with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) is a new and promising approach to MS treatment. In this paper we present the clinical monitoring results of 93 patients with different MS types after AHSCT. The mobilization and transplantation procedures were well tolerated. At long-termfollow-up (mean 47,2 months), the overall clinical response in terms of disease improvement or stabilization was 95% in patients with relapsing-remitting MS and 77,5% in patients with progressive MS. The results of our study support the feasibility of AHSCT in MS patients.
