Family Vacation Decision Making: The Role of Woman

    Get PDF
Most people spend their vacations with their family and decide where, how, and when with their spouses. The woman’s role within the couple has become more and more influential in certain purchase decisions. This influence is strongly related to their lifestyles and values. For the tourism sector and its marketing strategy, it would be very useful to know the role that women play in vacation decisions. So, this article aims to analyze the influence of women’s lifestyles and values on family vacation decisions. The information is based on 300 questionnaires addressed to married or cohabiting women. The results show differences in vacation decisions depending on the profile of the women (professional vs. traditional) and their preferences in activities

A segmented period-luminosity relation for nearby extragalactic δ\delta Scuti stars

The period-luminosity relations (PLR) of Milky Way δ\delta Scuti (δ\delta Sct) stars have been described to the present day by a linear relation. However, when studying extragalactic systems such as the Magellanic Clouds and several dwarf galaxies, we notice for the first time a non-linear behaviour in the PLR of δ\delta Sct stars. Using the largest sample of 3700\sim 3700 extragalactic δ\delta Sct stars from data available in the literature -mainly based on OGLE and SuperMACHO survey in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)- we obtain that the best fit to the period-luminosity (MVM_V) plane is given by the following piecewise linear relation with a break at logP=1.03±0.01\log{P} = -1.03 \pm 0.01 (or 0.093±0.0020.093 \pm 0.002 d) for shorter periods (sp) and longer periods (lp) than the break-point: MVsp=7.08(±0.25)logP5.74(±0.29);logP<1.03M_V^{sp} = -7.08 (\pm 0.25) \log{P} -5.74 (\pm 0.29) ;\hspace{5pt} \log{P} < -1.03 MVlp=MVsp+4.38(±0.32)(logP+1.03(±0.01));logP1.03M_V^{lp} = M_V^{sp} + 4.38 (\pm 0.32) \cdot (\log{P} + 1.03 (\pm 0.01));\hspace{5pt} \log{P} \geq -1.03 Geometric or depth effects in the LMC, metallicity dependence, or different pulsation modes are discarded as possible causes of this segmented PLR seen in extragalactic δ\delta Sct stars. The origin of the segmented relation at 0.09\sim 0.09 days remains unexplained based on the current data.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. Haemothorax in the course of chickenpox

Varicella pneumonia develops in 10-20% of cases of chickenpox occurring in adolescence or adult life.' Airflow obstruction, pleural effusion, and respiratory failure are less frequent. Although several haemorrhagic pleuropulmonary complications have been described in the course of chickenpox, haemothorax has been observed only once. We describe a new case of this association

ABSTRACT The black bear (Ursus americanus eremicus) diet composition was determined in Maderas del Carmen Coahuila. The availability of the food was determined, as well as its metabolizable energy concentration. Black bear metabolizable energy requirements and carrying capacity were estimated. Six seasonal diet patterns were established. 28 food components were identified. 92% of the diet was vegetation and 8% animal matter. The estimated carrying capacity for Sierra del Carmen, Coahuila during the maximum bear energetic requirement phase is 136 ha/bear or 0.73 bears/km2

Intramolecular C-C Coupling Reactions of Alkynyl, Vinylidene, and Alkenylphosphane Ligands in Rhodium(III) Complexes

Electrophilic attack with methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate or tetrafluoroboric acid, to new alkynyl rhodium complexes containing alkenylphosphanes, leads to butenynyl coupling products or to the unprecedented rhodaphosphacycle complexes Rh(¿5-C5Me5){¿4-(P, C, C, C)-iPr2PCH2C(=CH2)C(CH2R)C=C(R)}]BF4] (R = Ph (11a), p-tol (11b)). These complexes 11a, b can be explained as a result of the coupling of three organic fragments in the molecule, the alkynyl, the vinylidene, generated in situ by reaction with HBF4 (A), and the C-C double bond from the alkenylphosphane. DFT computational studies on the formation of complex 11a suggest the 2 + 2] intramolecular cycloaddition between the double bond of the allylphosphane and the Ca-Cß of the vinylidene A as the most plausible pathway for this reaction

    Get PDF

ObjectiveTo determine the impact of primary care on hospitalization of type 2 diabetics with equal conditions of health insurance.DesignA case-control study. Case=diabetic hospitalized by a disease related condition. Control=diabetic without hospitalization during the last 12 months.SettingUrban primary care centers.ParticipantsCases were consecutively selected from four out of five urban hospitals (n=123). Controls were chosen at random from primary care units matched by primary care source (n=135).Women with gestational diabetes were excluded as well as individuals with missing medical charts (approximately 15%).MeasurementsA primary care index was constructed with process and outcome indicators recommended by the American Medical Association, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the American Diabetes Association and the Official Mexican Standards. Compliance to less than 60% of recommendations was considered unsatisfactory primary care.ResultsThe following were hospitalization risk factors: less than 2 visits to family physician during the last year (OR adjusted, 16,2; 95% CI, 1,5–174,2), glucose level (OR adjusted, 1,006; 95% CI, 1,002–1,010) and cognitive level (OR adjusted, 0,98; 95% CI, 0,96–0,99), in addition to exercising and year of diagnosis. Sixty-five percent of cases observed unsatisfactory primary care compared with 49,1% of controls (P=0,03). Unsatisfactory primary care increased 2,5 times the risk of hospitalization (95% CI, 1,2–5,0) (pseudo R2=0,279; P<0,001).ConclusionsPrimary care is a potential factor for reducing hospitalization of type 2 diabetics. Effective primary care programs would contribute to a better disease control and less unnecessary hospitalizations

From 1981 to 1996 twelve patients were treated in our orthopaedic department with the diagnosis of Aneurismal Bone Cyst (ABC). This pathologic and clinical entity has an unknown etiology that in the majority of cases it can¿t be elucidated. The threatment was: curettage and bone graft in seven cases; in bloc excision in three cases and expectant in two. Surgical treatment results were satisfactory in 75% of cases, with 25% of local recurrences that took place in younger patients with more aggressive cysts. Mean follow-up was four years (range: 1-8). In this study we make a comparison with other methods of treatment reported like intratumoral criotherapy and selective arterial embolization. We find these methods of relative utility due to their high level of orthopaedist specialization and precise selection of cases. The radiotherapy has restricted application to cases of unresectable tumours
