Streptococcus Pneumoniae Serotype 19A in Hospitalized Children With invasive Pneumococcal Disease after the introduction of Conjugated Vaccines in Lima, Peru
BACKGROUND: The Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) has decreased cases of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) worldwide. However, the impact of PCVs introduction may be affected by the serotype distribution in a specific context.
METHODS: Cross-sectional multicenter passive surveillance study of IPD cases in pediatric patients hospitalized in Lima, Peru between 2016 and 2019 (after PCV13 introduction) to determine the serotype distribution and antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Serotyping was performed by a sequential multiplex PCR and confirmed by whole genome sequencing.
RESULTS: Eighty-five S. pneumoniae isolates were recovered (4.07/100,000 among childrenage). Serotype 19A was the most common (49.4%). Children infected with serotype 19A in comparison with children infected with other serotypes were younger, had a lower rate of meningitis and higher rates of pneumonia, complicated pneumonia and antimicrobial resistance; 28.6% of patients with serotype 19A have received at least one dose of PCV13 vs. 62.8% of patients with other serotypes. Using MIC-breakpoints, 81.2% (56/69) of non-meningitis strains and 31.2% (5/16) of meningitis strains were susceptible to penicillin; 18.8% (3/16) of meningitis strains had intermediate resistance to ceftriaxone. Resistance to azithromycin was 78.8% (67/85). Serotype 19A frequency increased over time in the same study population, from 4.2% (4/96) in 2006-2008, to 8.6% (5/58) in 2009-2011, to 49.4% (42/85) in the current study (2016-2019) (p \u3c 0.001).
CONCLUSIONS: After PCV13 introduction in Peru, serotype 19A remains the most prevalent; however, the vaccination coverage is still not optimal. Therefore, additonal surveillance studies are needed to determine the remaining IPD burden

Non-circular motion evidences in the circumnuclear region of M100 (NGC 4321)
We analyse new integral field spectroscopy of the inner region (central 2.5
kpc) of the spiral galaxy NGC 4321 to study the peculiar kinematics of this
region. Fourier analysis of the velocity residuals obtained by subtracting an
axisymmetric rotation model from the velocity field, indicates
that the distortions are {\em global} features generated by an
perturbation of the gravitational potential which can be explained by the
nuclear bar. This bar has been previously observed in the near-infrared but not
in the optical continuum dominated by star formation. We detect the optical
counterpart of this bar in the 2D distribution of the old stellar population
(inferred from the equivalent width map of the stellar absorption lines). We
apply the Tremaine--Weinberg method to the stellar velocity field to calculate
the pattern speed of the inner bar, obtaining a value of
=160. This value is considerably la
rger than the one obtained when a simple bar model is considered. However the
uncertainties in the pattern speed determination prevent us to give support to
alternative scenarios.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
Recurring adaptive introgression of a supergene variant that determines social organization
Introgression has been proposed as an essential source of adaptive genetic variation. However, a key barrier to adaptive introgression is that recombination can break down combinations of alleles that underpin many traits. This barrier might be overcome in supergene regions, where suppressed recombination leads to joint inheritance across many loci. Here, we study the evolution of a large supergene region that determines a major social and ecological trait in Solenopsis fire ants: whether colonies have one queen or multiple queens. Using coalescent-based phylogenies built from the genomes of 365 haploid fire ant males, we show that the supergene variant responsible for multiple-queen colonies evolved in one species and repeatedly spread to other species through introgressive hybridization. This finding highlights how supergene architecture can enable a complex adaptive phenotype to recurrently permeate species boundaries
The Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy in Mexico
Using a VAR model with quarterly information for the 1980 to 2008 period, this paper studies the dynamic effects of fiscal policy on Gross Domestic Product in the Mexican economy. We find evidence of non–Keynesian effects of government expenditure on GDP in the short run. Also, we find evidence that government revenue has a significant impact on GDP only in the fourth quarter

Daily monitoring of TeV gamma-ray emission from Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and the Crab Nebula with HAWC
We present results from daily monitoring of gamma rays in the energy range
to TeV with the first 17 months of data from the High
Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory. Its wide field of view of 2
steradians and duty cycle of % are unique features compared to other TeV
observatories that allow us to observe every source that transits over HAWC for
up to hours each sidereal day. This regular sampling yields
unprecedented light curves from unbiased measurements that are independent of
seasons or weather conditions. For the Crab Nebula as a reference source we
find no variability in the TeV band. Our main focus is the study of the TeV
blazars Markarian (Mrk) 421 and Mrk 501. A spectral fit for Mrk 421 yields a
power law index and
an exponential cut-off
TeV. For Mrk 501, we find an index and exponential cut-off TeV. The light curves for both sources show clear
variability and a Bayesian analysis is applied to identify changes between flux
states. The highest per-transit fluxes observed from Mrk 421 exceed the Crab
Nebula flux by a factor of approximately five. For Mrk 501, several transits
show fluxes in excess of three times the Crab Nebula flux. In a comparison to
lower energy gamma-ray and X-ray monitoring data with comparable sampling we
cannot identify clear counterparts for the most significant flaring features
observed by HAWC.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical

The 2HWC HAWC Observatory Gamma Ray Catalog
We present the first catalog of TeV gamma-ray sources realized with the
recently completed High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory (HAWC). It is the
most sensitive wide field-of-view TeV telescope currently in operation, with a
1-year survey sensitivity of ~5-10% of the flux of the Crab Nebula. With an
instantaneous field of view >1.5 sr and >90% duty cycle, it continuously
surveys and monitors the sky for gamma ray energies between hundreds GeV and
tens of TeV.
HAWC is located in Mexico at a latitude of 19 degree North and was completed
in March 2015. Here, we present the 2HWC catalog, which is the result of the
first source search realized with the complete HAWC detector. Realized with 507
days of data and represents the most sensitive TeV survey to date for such a
large fraction of the sky. A total of 39 sources were detected, with an
expected contamination of 0.5 due to background fluctuation. Out of these
sources, 16 are more than one degree away from any previously reported TeV
source. The source list, including the position measurement, spectrum
measurement, and uncertainties, is reported. Seven of the detected sources may
be associated with pulsar wind nebulae, two with supernova remnants, two with
blazars, and the remaining 23 have no firm identification yet.Comment: Submitted 2017/02/09 to the Astrophysical Journa
Search for very-high-energy emission from Gamma-ray Bursts using the first 18 months of data from the HAWC Gamma-ray Observatory
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Gamma-ray Observatory is an
extensive air shower detector operating in central Mexico, which has recently
completed its first two years of full operations. If for a burst like GRB
130427A at a redshift of 0.34 and a high-energy component following a power law
with index -1.66, the high-energy component is extended to higher energies with
no cut-off other than from extragalactic background light attenuation, HAWC
would observe gamma rays with a peak energy of 300 GeV. This paper
reports the results of HAWC observations of 64 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) detected
by and , including three GRBs that were also
detected by the Large Area Telescope (-LAT). An ON/OFF analysis
method is employed, searching on the time scale given by the observed light
curve at keV-MeV energies and also on extended time scales. For all GRBs and
time scales, no statistically significant excess of counts is found and upper
limits on the number of gamma rays and the gamma-ray flux are calculated. GRB
170206A, the third brightest short GRB detected by the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor
on board the satellite (-GBM) and also
detected by the LAT, occurred very close to zenith. The LAT measurements can
neither exclude the presence of a synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) component nor
constrain its spectrum. Instead, the HAWC upper limits constrain the expected
cut-off in an additional high-energy component to be less than
for reasonable assumptions about the energetics and redshift of the burst.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures, published in Ap
