    Yoshimoto Banana’ choice on a space as the title of his novel, Kitchin or Kitchen, that describes the importanceof space for the novel becomes the background of this research. Besides, this study is also grounded by a previousstudy conducted by Kazuo Nakajima and The aim of this study is to reveal the response toward cultural colonizationemerging in postcolonial space of novel Kitchin. The study is conducted by analyzing the relationship of significanttextual units in the text, as well as linking it with the data outside by using postcolonial theory about space. The resultsof this study can be summarized as follows. In Kitchin, there are representation of colonial concept and traditionalconcept. Besides the representation of the two groups, there are also depictions of chaos. It is a form of new ideas thatrefuse combination that build opposition between colonial structures and traditions. The chaos emerges a new structurewhich consists of more than two opposition; colonial and traditions. These new ideas are connected to efforts to survivein a society that has been colonized culturally.Keywords: cultural colonization, postcolonial space, Kitchin

    Banana Yoshimoto� s choice on a space as the title of her novel Kitchin or Kitchen, which shows the important meaning of space for the novel, is one of the backgrounds of this study. This study will continue the previous one conducted by Kazuo Nakajima and William Weaver entitled The Concept of Space in Modern Japan. Nakajima and Weaver found that the influence of western culture arouse an anxiety about space as certain theme in several works of Japanese literature including Kitchin. Conditions described in their research showed that Japanese society has undergone a cultural colonization, and Kitchin can be classified as one of the postcolonial novel. In brief, referring to those two points, the current study on space in novel Kitchin with postcolonial viewpoint is conducted. This study aims to reveal responds to cultural colonization in post-colonial space appeared in the novel, Kitchin. This study analyzes data of significant textual units in the novel connected significant textual units in other texts, such as culture and architecture texts, using postcolonial theory of the space. The result of this study shows that there is representations colonial concept and concept of tradition in the novel. Moreover, there is also a representation of chaos in the novel. The chaos is a form of new idea that refuse to be classified in one of the groups/ spheres which construct opposition structure of colonial structures and traditions. Therefore, the chaos arouses a new structure other than the previous two. New idea reveals the effort to survive in a society that has been culturally colonized

    Japan is known as a country which has many developing martial arts since the time of samurai. It was not only practiced by the Japanese, but also by people around the world. The martial art of samurai itself, which developed in Edo period had many influences from the works of Zen Buddhism tenets. It taught budoo as a concept in samurai meditation, so that the samurai were able to to find composure within. Budoo was a philosophy in martial arts which emphasized that any martial art aims to create peace for it�s practitioner and the environment. Martial arts which contain the budoo philosophy were not intent on getting victory from the fight but more to practice self development for the practitioner. The objective of this paper is to understand the relevance between budoo and the Zen tenets, and budoo�s role in martial arts which emanated from samurai martial arts such as budoo in hakama, kendoo, iaidoo, juudoo, aikidoo, kyuudoo and naginata.     Doraemon�s comic is a comic that tells children about the adventures a boy of 5 th grade named Nobita and the cat robot named Doraemon who has a magic bag that is always faithful to accompany him. This comic has many positive values contained in it. But on the other hand, there are some negative behaviors that need to be noticed, especially for children, for example, is aggressive behavior. The method used to search for elements such as behavior is a book study method, the method of data collection by using reference books and related topics. The results show that authors foundmany positive behavioral values contained in the Doraemon comics such as mutual help, mutual giving, and caring environment. The negative behaviors contained in this comic is an example of aggressive behavior such as hitting, kicking, and mocking

    This graduation paper explores about kodokushi phenomenon in Japanese society, which is done by collecting information from various sources. The purposes of writing this graduating paper are give a general overview of kodokushi and identify the causes background of the case. This graduation paper is prepared by using literature and descriptive methods. The author collected data and materials relating to kodokushi from books, internet, and paper. The data and material obtained is then read, understood, and analyzed in order to describe the phenomenon kodokushi. From this graduation paper can be concluded, kodokushi is someone deaths who is not known by the people around him, both relatives and neighbors. Change in family structure, comunity residences, divorces and economic state can be the main cause of kodokushi phenomenon. Estrangement between individuals in Japanese society can also influences the occurrence of kodokushi
