    Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas: A 10-year single-center surgical experience and long-term echocardiographic follow-up study

    Aims. Limited contemporary data are available on the clinical and echocardiographic outcomes after surgery for cardiac papillary fibroelastoma (CPF). The aim of this study was to review the clinical manifestations, pathological characteristics, surgical management, and prognoses of patients with histologically verified CPF, who underwent surgery at our cardiac surgery center from 2008 to 2018. Methods and Results. Twelve patients of median age 62 years (28 to 77 years) were treated. Embolic stroke or transient ischemic attack (five patients, 42%) were the only CPF clinical manifestations. Eleven (92%) tumors were localized on the valves, with the aortic valve being the most common tumor site (seven patients; 58%). Multiple factor analysis revealed no independent predictor of CPF-related embolization. Simple shave tumor excision was sufficient in most patients (10 patients, 83%). No operative or tumor-related late mortality during the median follow-up period of 4.7 years (1.1 to 10.2 years) was recorded. Asymptomatic metachronous valve tumor recurrence (in a location different from that of the original tumor) was revealed in two patients (17%) by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), not detected by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). One of these two patients underwent repeated surgery for CPF but later suffered a recurrent embolic stroke, due to another tumor recurrence. Conclusion. CPF can be safely and effectively treated surgically. TEE is superior to the TTE option in CPF post-operative recurrence detection. There is a clear need for a prospective study to determine criteria for embolization risk stratification and optimum management in patients with CPF.Web of Science1641918

    Study of radiolabelling of hyaluronic acid by oxidative iodination

V experimentalni časti prace byly vyzkoušeny dvě metody oxidativni jodace hyaluronove kyseliny modifikovane tyraminem s nejnižšim stupněm modifikace ( HA - Tm - 1 ). Prvni použita chloraminova metoda se ukazala jako nevhodna, diky přitomnosti oxidačniho činidla ve fazi s hyaluronovou kyselinou došlo k častečnemu štěpeni řetězce značene latky. Dalši metoda jodace s použitim jodogenu, je reakci heterogenni, kdy je oxidačni činidlo přitomno jako ve vodě nerozpustny odparek na stěnach reakčni nadobky. Tento způsob značeni byl proto k hyaluronove kyselině mnohem šetrnějši. Zastaveni reakce bylo provedeno nanesenim reakčni soustavy na kolonu se Sephadexem G - 50, kde došlo k odděleni označene sloučeniny od agresivniho reakčniho prostředi. Ukazalo se, že tento způsob přečištěni značeneho produktu neodstrani z roztoku zbytky radioaktivniho jodidu, proto bylo provedeno promyti značene hyaluronove kyseliny přes filtr se sraženinou chloridu střibrneho. In experimental part of the task two methods of oxidative iodination of hyaluronic acid modified by tyramine with the lowest degree of modification ( HA - TM - 1 ) was examined. Chloramine method, used as first one, turned out ineligible as due to presence of oxidative agent in the phase with hyaluronic acid a partial degradation of the sequence occurred. Another method of iodination with the use of iodogen is heterogenous reaction, oxidative agent is present as an insoluble deposit on the walls of the reaction vial. This method of radiolabelling was more moderate to hyaluronic acid. The reaction was interrupted by applying the reaction system on the column with Sephadex G - 50 wherby the labelled compound was separated from the aggressive reactive environment.     Manure application followed by biochar application increases plant production regardless of soil dehydrogenase activity

    Biochar is obtained by the pyrolysis of biomass, and contains abundant carbon and minerals. Biochar supplementation of soils can greatly improve soil health and quality, but these beneficial effects typically develop slowly over time. Depending on the quality of the biochar and the soil to which it is applied, it may take years before positive effects are apparent. This is because organic substances are slowly sorbed onto the biochar over time, and the biochar eventually becomes part of the sorption complex of the soil. It is therefore advisable to apply biochar together with some organic material. We examined the effect of co-application of different doses of biochar with manure on soil dehydrogenase activity (DHA), soil oxidizable carbon (COX), cumulative soil respiration, soil buffering capacity, the soil exchange reaction (pH/KCl), and the production yield of winter rape seeds. We also determined seed production when artificial granular fertilizers were added to biochar and manure. The results showed that the application of biochar and manure significantly increased grain yield, DHA, the soil exchange reaction, and cumulative respiration. Thus application of biochar with organic material can increase seed yield and some properties of agricultural soils. However, the positive effect of biochar on seed yield was not directly proportional to biochar dose, in that the seed yield was lower for a biochar dose of 45 t/ha than 30 t/ha.OA-hybri

    Effects of Biochar Application on Winter Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Roots Under Long-Term Drought Conditions

    The main objective of this paper was to evaluate the effect of applying biochar and activated carbon on winter wheat affected by drought in model laboratory conditions. Cultivation tests of the soil-microorganisms-plant (winter wheat) system were focused on understanding the interactions between microbial soil communities and experimental plants in response to specific cultivation measures, in combination with the modelled effect of drought. The containers were formed as a split-root rhizotron. In this container experiment, the root system of one and the same plant was divided into two separate compartments where into one half, biochar or activated carbon has been added. The other half without additives was a control. Plants favoured the formation of the root system in the treated part of the container under both drought and irrigation modes. In drought mode there was lower production of CO2, lower overall length and surface of the roots of winter wheat compared to variants in irrigation mode. The application of biochar and activated carbon, therefore, supported the colonization of roots by mycorrhiza in general. The Scientific merit of this paper was to investigate the possibility of mitigating the effects of a long-term drought on winter wheat through the application of biochar or the application of activated carbon.O

    With growing pressure on performance and data regarding customer behaviour and supply chain process widely available, stock keeping units aim to optimise the level of inventories. It is natural that good estimates of future sales can substantially increase the efficiency of the overall company. We can distinguish two basic perspectives: one assumes sales to be an independent process; the other explores its dependency on exogenous variables. In this paper we focus on the forecasting of sales in the Ice category when dependency on quarterly average temperatures in the form of exponential function is assumed. We concentrate especially on LFL-Forecaster, a method combining fuzzy transform and fuzzy natural logic of fuzzy sets theory, as a tool for average temperature forecasting. The results are compared with simple linear extrapolation and truly observed temperatures. The utilisation of LFL-Forecaster is found to be superior to simplifying linear regression

    The Health-Enabling Capacities of Nature Contact

However, at the same time, contact with the natural environment is shrinking. More than half of the world's population lives in urban areas with high population densities and, in many cases, with a little or no access to the quality green spaces. One of the consequences is that there is an increasing disconnection from nature and its sensory stimuli while the noise, air and visual pollution negatively affects the health and reduces the quality of life in urban areas. The "healing" capacity of nature is being increasingly discussed as well as the need of reconnection with it and its therapeutic, spiritual and psychological benefits. The garden therapy defined as a treatment and relaxation through contact with nature is attracting more and more attention, both, from academic field as well as from practitioners of different areas. Among others, a social care and health care, particularly in the case of the children with autism, hyperactivity, with lack of relational capital, psychiatrists (in the case of dementia) but also an architectural landscaping (Which characteristics must the gardens have to fulfill these benefits?). An interdisciplinary approach is needed in order to discuss concepts, benefits, potentialities and ways to implement these therapies. We will be presenting the results of a research project - With Nature to Mutual Understanding - developed by a consortium of seven European countries, on the potentialities of garden therapies to develop communication, social and entrepreneurial skills of the target groups (e.g. minorities, people with learning disabilities and physical and mental health problems, migrants and refugees).publishersversionpublishe

Postihuje v evropských zemích 10-13 % populace a s každou životní dekádou jeho výskyt roste. Nejčastější příčinou selhání ledvin jsou v katergorii nemocných nad 50 roků onemocnění spojená s diabetem 2. typu a hypertenzí. Chronické onemocnění ledvin je spojeno s rizikem mortality, hospitalizace a snížené kvality života. Klinický farmaceut (KF) jako specialista na farmakoterapii spolupracuje s dalšími zdravotníky na optimalizaci farmakoterapie. Pokud je KF součástí týmu, může aktivně předcházet vzniku lékových problémů (DRPs - Drug Related Problems) a tím zvyšovat bezpečnost terapie a kvalitu péče. Identifikace a minimalizace lékových problémů společně s optimalizací účinku farmakoterapie jsou hlavní cíle klinické farmacie, kde předpokladem pro odhalení a řešení lékových problémů jsou nejen znalosti z farmakologie ale i z ostatních lékařských oborů jako je biochemie, mikrobiologie, patofyziologie a epidemiologie. In this thesis, the relations between particle size and flow rate of the sodium chloride size fractions in a range of 80-630 µm through the circular outlet of the conical stainless hopper in a range of 6-15 mm are studied. The Jones & Pilpel power equation was used to model the dependence. A linear relationship between the exponent of the Jones & Pilpel power equation and the mean size of particles was noted. The fractal aspects of flow rate (the mass and/or the volume ones) were investigated using the results of the optical microscopy.
