THE EFFECT OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL DESIGN PROCESS TO MATHEMATICS TEACHER CANDIDATES’ TPACK

It is inevitable to receive technology support for teacher training activities in this new era in which technology is at large in our lives. Sufficiency in terms of TPACK (Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge) is among the basic conditions for being qualified teachers. For this reason, activities for teacher candidates' TPACK development should be involved in teacher training activities. TPACK expresses a combined knowledge, so complex activities should be consulted to increase this accumulation of knowledge. In this direction, the process of designing instructional materials allows learning by design and can address all of this integrated knowledge. In this study, in math education department of a state university in Turkey, a research was conducted with 19 teacher candidates studying in the third grade. Teacher candidates have been assigned tasks for designing materials they can use in their lessons. Before starting the tasks, all the teacher candidates filled out the TPACK scale (Schmidt et al., 2009) and pre-test data were generated. Among the task steps that were carried out, the prospective teachers shared the developmental stages of the material with their friends and enriched the materials in the direction of their comments. To gain more time, presentations and interpretations are conducted through a closed Facebook group. At the end of material development process which was carried out by sticking to learning by design principles, the TPACK scale was re-applied to all the teachers and the post test data of the study was obtained. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed rank test showed that there was a significant difference between the two tests and that all the teacher candidates increased their total scores. As a result of the study, it was found that the process of material development carried out by learning by design framework leads to a positive change in TPACK of teacher candidates.  Article visualizations

Sulfur analysis of Bolu-Mengen lignite before and after microbiological treatment using reductive pyrolysis and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry

Atmospheric pressure-temperature programmed reduction coupled with on-line mass spectrometry (AP-TPR/MS) is used for the first time on microbiologically treated coal samples as a technique to monitor the degree of desulfurization of the various sulfur functionalities. The experimental procedure enables the identification of both organic and inorganic sulfur species present in the coal matrix. A better insight in the degradation of the coal matrix and the accompanying processes during the AP-TPR experiment is obtained by a quantitative differentiation of the sulfur. The determination of the sulfur balance for the reductive pyrolysis gives an overview of the side reactions and their relative contribution in the total process. The volatile sulfur species are unambiguously identified using AP-TPR off-line coupled with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). In this way, fundamental mechanisms and reactions that occur during the reductive pyrolysis could be quantified, explaining the differences in AP-TPR recoveries. Joint economic lot-sizing approach to the just-in-time purchasing problem

However, this issue is settled between the purchaser and vendor depending on the existing balance of power. The result of such decisions could end with ordering policies, not suitable for JIT logic and place some disadvantages to one of the parties or both. Additionally, these policies have not considered the effect of transportation cost on the optimal ordering and shipment size quantities; despite the fact that purchased materials must bear transportation charges. This paper develops joint economic lot-size model under deterministic conditions, focusing on the shipment size and its effect to the joint total cost, which also includes transportation cost. For that purpose, the joint model is arranged according to the shipment size. Then a computational analysis is made between each parties shipment size policy with the joint model. Consequently, a full factorial design is generated with four factors at three levels. By using the analysis of variance, the effects of the factors on the joint total cost are investigated.Durusoy, İhsanM.S

Rise of subjectivist photography in digital era: can there be photography after the post-modern image? and "too many words" series

This research analyzes the progressive trajectory of Photography: Pictorialism, Straight Photography, Documentary, Subjectivism, Formalism, Modernism, Post- Modernism, and onwards with an aim of exploring new possibilities of photography and photographic techniques with the technological innovations. Looking back retrospectively the medium of photography and the necessity of new ways of self expression will unveil through the research. A new way of subjectivism is proposed and exemplified at the end of the research. Starting with exploring the general direction of Photography, this research assumes that the progress of art photography and critique continuously evolved until the Post Modern era and receded recession at that point. With immense innovations in two- and three-dimensional digital image making, the research and the subsequent body of art works searches for new ways of "photographical" expression; by scanning through what is Subjectivity, its background, origins, and afterward, , our research via the issues of indexicality and Rhetoric of the Image will sketch the path between Subjectivity, Modernism, and Post Modernism The research will conclude with the inspection of digital photography, photographers and the impact of the "Internet" over the area of photography and the image creation. In cooperation with the thesis, an accompanying series of art works by the author, "Too Many Words" and the artist's oeuvre will try to exemplify Subjectivist Photography in the Digital Era. This thesis is also a self-critique of the artist's oeuvre until today. Scanning through history of photography and image making, this thesis will try to follow the footsteps and traces of references related to the artist's oeuvre

İktisat biliminin yeri ve yöntemi neden sorgulanıyor?

Aim of this study is to emphasize that transforming of the interaction of economics with mathematics into the domination relationship has caused a methodological monopoly and to explain that it has caused that the dominated economics discipline has led to a rupture risk from the main events and problems. On the other hand, the study reveals that the integration of economics with a heavy formulization process, having an excessive interest of modern mathematics in economics and the impact of mathematical developments in other disciplines on economic theory have changed the power balance and have shaken the fundamentals of neoclassical economic theory. In addition, beyond that the various methodological discussions among economists about the fact that economics discipline should consider the matters of the real world, it investigates the reasons of why the ties of economical research with social problems have weaken recently. Even though economics is a social science that assumes that it is impossible to put a distance among people as converted into a dominant ideology of modern era, the study analyzes the location of economics in the classification of natural and social sciences within the framework of arguments accepting that it has resembled to the natural sciences.In this regard, the study reaches the conclusion that economics will become more scientific as mathematical modeling has been playing a guiding role in this field, otherwise intensive use of mathematics in economics  will exclude the  sociological. Therefore, behavioral and institutional factors have to be  considered in economic analyses.Çalışmanın amacı, iktisadın matematikle olan etkileşiminin hakimiyet ilişkisine dönüşerek beraberinde metodolojik tekel ilişkisi doğurduğuna vurgu yapmak ve egemen iktisat öğretisinin iktisadın kendi sorunlarından ve konularından kopma tehlikesine yol açtığını  ortaya koymaktır.Öte yandan çalışmada, iktisadın yoğunlaşan bir formalizasyon sürecine girmesi ve modern matematiğin aşırı ilgi çekmesine karşın diğer disiplinlerdeki matematiksel gelişmelerin de iktisat teorisini etkilemesinin uygulamalar açısından güç dengesini değiştirdiği ve neo klasik iktisat kuramının temellerini sarstığı da ortaya konulmuştur. Ayrıca iktisatçılar arasında yaşanan metodolojik farklılıklar çerçevesinde iktisat biliminin somut dünyaya inmesi yönündeki yöntemsel tartışmalardan öte; iktisadi araştırmaların toplumsal sorunlarla bağının zayıflamasının nedenleri ele alınmıştır. İnsanla arasına mesafe koymanın mümkün olmadığı bir bilim olmasına rağmen, modern çağın başat ideolojisi haline dönüşen iktisat biliminin, doğa bilimlerine benzediği yönündeki argümanlar çerçevesinde doğa ve toplum bilimleri sınıflandırmasındaki yeri analiz edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda çalışmada iktisadın matematiksel oldukça daha bilimsel olacağı ve kendinden beklenen yol göstericiliği kurduğu matematiksel modellerle sağlayacağı savıyla matematiğin yoğun kullanımının toplum bilimlerini dışlayacağı;  bu nedenle iktisadi analizlerde davranışsal ve kurumsal unsurların da dikkate alınması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır
