Quantum frieze patterns in quantum cluster algebras of type A

We introduce a quantisation of the Coxeter-Conway frieze patterns and prove that they realise quantum cluster variables in quantum cluster algebras associated with linearly oriented Dynkin quivers of type A. As an application, we obtain the explicit polynomials arising from the lower bound phenomenon in these quantum cluster algebras.Comment: 10 page

    A simulation-based model of abduction

    Get PDF
International audienceAbduction, or Inference to the Best Explanation (IBE), is a reasoning process that generates possible explanations from a set of "surprising" observations. In this paper, a simulation-based model of abduction is introduced. This model is then implemented to develop a decision support system in the field of Forensic Entomology to help forensic scientists solve complex cases

Efficient atomization of cesium metal in solid helium by low energy (10 ÎĽ\muJ) femtosecond pulses

Metal atoms in solid and liquid helium-4 have attracted some interest either as a way to keep the atoms in a weakly perturbing matrix, or using them as a probe for the helium host medium. Laser sputtering with nanosecond pulsed lasers is the most often used method for atom production, resulting however in a substantial perturbation of the matrix. We show that a much weaker perturbation can be obtained by using femtosecond laser pulses with energy as low as 10 ÎĽ\muJ. As an unexpected benefit, the atomic density produced is much higher

This memoire in Film studies has been written in a context of research-creation. Besides this written document about ecologist documentary as a cinematographic genre, my work is attached to a 60 minutes activist documentary about agrifood. The goal of all this work is divided in two sections. First, the memoire is trying to establish if we assist, for about a decade, at the birth of a new genre that we are going to call ecologist documentary. The second part aims to identify this genre in the ecologist social movement and to measure his social impacts through the environmental movement. Produced in parallel of the writing of my memoire, I’m using my movie to experiment the dominant characteristics of ecologist cinema, as well as a field of evaluation of the social impacts of ecologist documentary

Education in cartography: what is the status of young people's map-reading skills?

Due to recent technological progress, maps have become more popular than ever before. This is especially true for young people, who interact with these technologies on a daily basis. Therefore, it is essential that these potential map users possess sufficient knowledge and skills to process the content of cartographic products. A user study was conducted during which pupils (aged 11-18years) and geography students (>18years) had to solve a number of cartography questions using topographic maps. The data were analyzed statistically, taking into account a number of potentially influencing factors (user characteristics) on the participants' results: age, gender, youth club membership, knowledge about the area, among others. The results show a rising trend in the pupils' scores with increasing age, which can be explained by education in cartography at school. Geography students perform much better, but no influence of any other user characteristics was detected. For pupils, knowledge about the area and gender might be considered as influencing factors. However, the detected influence of gender depends on the scoring system
