    Weighted estimates for powers and smoothing estimates of Schrödinger operators with inverse-square potentials

    Get PDF
    Let \La be a Schr\"odinger operator with inverse square potential a∣x∣−2a|x|^{-2} on \Rd, d\geq 3. The main aim of this paper is to prove weighted estimates for fractional powers of \La. The proof is based on weighted Hardy inequalities and weighted inequalities for square functions associated to \La. As an application, we obtain smoothing estimates regarding the propagator e^{it\La}

    Influenza A M2 Protein Conformation Depends On Choice Of Model Membrane

    While crystal and NMR structures exist of the influenza A M2 protein, there is disagreement between models. Depending on the requirements of the technique employed, M2 has been studied in a range of membrane mimetics including detergent micelles and membrane bilayers differing in lipid composition. The use of different model membranes complicates the integration of results from published studies necessary for an overall understanding of the M2 protein. Here we show using site-directed spin-label EPR spectroscopy (SDSL-EPR) that the conformations of M2 peptides in membrane bilayers are clearly influenced by the lipid composition of the bilayers. Altering the bilayer thickness or the lateral pressure profile within the bilayer membrane changes the M2 conformation observed. The multiple M2 peptide conformations observed here, and in other published studies, optimistically may be considered conformations that are sampled by the protein at various stages during influenza infectivity. However, care should be taken that the heterogeneity observed in published structures is not simply an artifact of the choice of the model membrane. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Objective: The purpose of this work was to develop and validate a novel HPLC-UV method using triethylamine (TEA) as a volatile buffer for simultaneous determination of amlodipine besylate (AML) and atorvastatin calcium (ATV).Methods: System suitability, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), selectivity, accuracy, and precision was validated using Hitachi L-2000 system with detector: DAD L-2455 at a detected wavelength of 245 nm. Stationary phase: Phenomenex Luna RP-C18 (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) and mobile phase: acetonitrile-methanol-TEA pH 4.0 (ratio 52:18:30 v/v/v) were used. Samples' volume of 20 µl was run at room temperature with the flow rate at 1 ml/min.Results: The linearity demonstrated good correlation in the concentration range at 2-40 ppm and 4-80 ppm for AML and ATV, respectively. The method was repeatable with relative standard deviation (RSD) of the intermediate precision test less than 1%. The recovery rate was 100.03% and 99.58% for AML and ATV, respectively. The method was also validated for dissolution studies with excellent compatibility.Conclusion: A new, simple and easy HPLC-UV method was successfully developed and validated for the determination of AML and ATV in both quantification test and dissolution test.Keywords: Amlodipine, Atorvastatin, Simultaneous, Dissolution, HPLC, Quantification, Volatile buffe

    The perspective of psychology students on the areas of psychology

    Perception is defined as the result of an awareness process about phenomena, things (living animals, plants, or humans), connections between objects by activities including noticing, observing, differentiating, and acknowledging. A recent study was conducted to investigate the undergraduate’s perception of areas of psychology. This research used the Vietnamese version of the Scale of Interests by Areas of Psychology (EIAPsi), including ten subscales to survey 252 psychology students (57 males and 195 females) from four universities in Vietnam. The findings showed significant effects of university and major on psychology undergraduate’s perception of areas of psychology. Students majoring in Counseling and Clinical Psychology had more general knowledge about the functions and roles of Clinical and Health Psychology and Neuropsychology than other undergraduates. Industrial and Organizational Psychology students had more general knowledge about Organizational Psychology than students in other majors

    Forest - Related Culture and Contribution to Sustainable Development in the Northern Mountain Region in Vietnam

    Get PDF
    The culture of communities living near/in forests indelibly interacts with forest ecosystems, both shaping and adapting to the natural environment. Forest-related cultural dimensions also provide benefits for local economies and social welfare. This study analyses the relationship between local culture and forests of the Tay and the Dao minorities and their contribution to sustainable development in Vo Nhai, a mountainous district in northern Vietnam. The study uses methods of a literature review, participant observation and qualitative interviews with local people. The strong embedded culture with forests that developed over many generations of Tay and Dao people was expressed through their knowledge systems of understanding nature, skills for environmental adaption, health protection and spiritual and recreational activities. The potentials of forest - related culture as a feature of local sustainable development were analysed through contributions in natural resource conservation, economic development and social cohesion. To integrate forest - related culture in sustainable development, some issues need to be better focused on the locality

    Long-Lasting Immune Protection and Other Epidemiological Findings after Chikungunya Emergence in a Cambodian Rural Community, April 2012.

    The East/Central/South African genotype of Chikungunya virus with the E1-A226V mutation emerged in 2011 in Cambodia and spread in 2012. An outbreak of 190 cases was documented in Trapeang Roka, a rural village. We surveyed 425 village residents within 3-4 weeks after the outbreak, and determined the sensitivity and specificity of case definitions and factors associated with infection by CHIKV. Self-reported clinical presentation consisted mostly of fever, rash and arthralgia. The presence of all three clinical signs or symptoms was identified as the most sensitive (67%) and specific (84%) self-reported diagnostic clinical indicator compared to biological confirmation by MAC-ELISA or RT-PCR used as a reference. Having an indoor occupation was associated with lower odds of infection compared with people who remained at home (adjOR 0.32, 95%CI 0.12-0.82). In contrast with findings from outbreaks in other settings, persons aged above 40 years were less at risk of CHIKV infection, likely reflecting immune protection acquired when Chikungunya circulated in Cambodia before the Khmer Rouge regime in 1975. In view of the very particular history of Cambodia, our epidemiological data from Trapeang Roka are the first to support the persistence of CHIKV antibodies over a period of 40 years
