Gas diffuser facilitates withdrawal of cryogenic liquids from tanks

    Get PDF
Compact, cylindrical gas diffuser with radial exhaust slots and internal axial flow channels maintains the necessary pressure for the desired withdrawal rate of cryogenic liquids from tanks. The diffuser minimizes pressure loss which results from condensation of nitrogen gas in the liquid and prevents direct impingement of gas jets on liquid surface to reduce turbulence

The effect of oblique angle of sound incidence, realistic edge conditions, curvature and in-plane panel stresses on the noise reduction characteristics of general aviation type panels

    Get PDF
Experiments and a theoretical analysis were conducted to predict the noise reduction of inclined and curved panels. These predictions are compared to the experimental results with reasonable agreement between theory and experiment for panels under an oblique angle of sound incidence. Theoretical as well as experimental results indicate a big increase in noise reduction when a flat test panel is curved. Further curving the panel slightly decreases the noise reduction. Riveted flat panels are shown to give a higher noise reduction in the stiffness-controlled frequency region, while bonded panels are superior in this region when the test panel is curved. Experimentally measured noise reduction characteristics of flat aluminum panels with uniaxial in-plane stresses are presented and discussed. These test results indicate an important improvement in the noise reduction of these panels in the frequency range below the fundamental panel/cavity frequency

Changes in erythropoietin levels during space flight or space flight simulation

    Get PDF
Two hundred and seventy samples from 24 subjects involved in 3 bedrest studies and from 3 subjects involved in Spacelab Mission Development Test 3 were assayed for erythropoietin (Ep), in an in vitro fetal mouse liver cell assay, and for ferritin using a commercially available immunoradiometric assay kit. No trends or significant changes in serum Ep were observed. Serum ferritin concentrations tended to increases slightly during the 'missions', reflecting a redirection of iron from the suppressed erythron into iron stores

Jesus and purity : an ongoing debate

    Get PDF
The importance of purity legislation and the "separateness" that it implied within Second Temple Judaism confirms the significance of the renewed interest in purity issues in "historical Jesus" research. The relevance of John the Baptist's "baptism" is less clear than at first appears. But that Jesus himself shared at least some purity priorities is implied by Mark 1.44 and by his "cleansing of the Temple". Yet he also sat loose to the purity "halakhoth" regarding clean and unclean and table-fellowship, which suggests that Jesus did not regard such concerns as central to the definition of Israel and its practice

Performance evaluation of a kinesthetic-tactual display

    Get PDF
Simulator studies demonstrated the feasibility of using kinesthetic-tactual (KT) displays for providing collective and cyclic command information, and suggested that KT displays may increase pilot workload capability. A dual-axis laboratory tracking task suggested that beyond reduction in visual scanning, there may be additional sensory or cognitive benefits to the use of multiple sensory modalities. Single-axis laboratory tracking tasks revealed performance with a quickened KT display to be equivalent to performance with a quickened visual display for a low frequency sum-of-sinewaves input. In contrast, an unquickened KT display was inferior to an unquickened visual display. Full scale simulator studies and/or inflight testing are recommended to determine the generality of these results

Automated Data Management Information System (ADMIS)

    Get PDF
ADMIS stores and controls data and documents associated with manned space flight effort. System contains all data oriented toward a specific document; it is primary source of reports generated by the system. Each group of records is composed of one document record, one distribution record for each recipient of the document, and one summary record
