Error estimates in approximate deconvolution models

    Get PDF
International audienceWe consider general Approximate Deconvolution Models (ADM). We estimate the error modeling as a function of the residual stress τN\tau_N and we compute the rate of convergence to the mean Navier-Stokes Equations in terms of the deconvolution order NN

    Bhartrhari’s Language Philosophy Linguistic Monism

    Get PDF
Indian way of thinking from a metaphysical and religious perspective examines language in connection with thinking. Grammarians have found ways to define the essence of the Word, thus building up Grammar and Language Philosophy. Panini’s grammar reviews not only basic linguistic structures, but also Man’s intrinsic pattern. Panini’s followers, especially Bhartrhari, reveal a soteriological dimension of grammar. This philosophical trait of the Word on which Sphota theory is based indicates that the mere Sphota represents the basic structure of consciousness. Sphota concept lies at the heart of contemporary Language Philosophy

The Politics of Reorientation in Summer Will Show

    Get PDF
The essay argues that Summer Will Show offers the reader a ‘politics of reorientation’. It suggests that the novel centres on moments of transition, which are for the protagonists moments of reckoning and rebuilding that reconstruct their political priorities and understandings. The narrative shows the protagonist Sophia Willoughby reorienting herself not only to see, but also to address the situation which was for her previously in the background. The essay analyses interrelations between class, gender, sexuality and race in the novel

In the current energy context and the global need to decouple economic growth from energy consumption, this dissertation focuses on energy efficiency, highlighted by the International Energy Agency as the “first fuel". Universities have always had in the society the role of setting an example of best practice. As such, this dissertation explores the energy efficiency development potential in the university context, particularly at the University of Lisbon, through the creation of a barometer of monitoring and evaluation of energy efficiency for the University. In the first stage a literature survey on existing barometers of energy efficiency and a survey on the University features was made. Then a set of energy consumption indicators and an evaluation method of energy efficiency were defined. The established method was implemented in a graphical user interface and tested with real data of some Schools of the University of Lisbon

This paper is devoted to study the rate of convergence of the weak solutions u α of α-regularization models, namely the Leray-α, Navier-Stokes-α, modified Leray-α and simplified Bardina models, to the weak solution u of the Navier-Stokes equations in the two-dimensional case with subjecting to the periodic boundary conditions as the regularization parameter α goes to zero
