The Effects of Automated Grading on Computer Science Courses at the University of New Orleans
This is a study of the impacts of the incorporation, into certain points of the Computer Science degree program at the University of New Orleans, of Course Management software with an Autograding component. The software in question, developed at Carnegie Mellon University, is called “Autolab.” We begin by dissecting Autolab in order to gain an understanding of its inner workings. We can then take out understanding of its functionality and apply that to an examination of fundamental changes to courses in the time since they incorporated the software. With that, we then compare Drop, Failure, Withdrawal rate data from before and after the introduction of Autolab. With this collection of data, we can conclude, to a certain extent, that Autolab has had a negligible impact on course outcomes, but a measurable impact on course structure and pedagogy as well as improved quality of life for students and professors, alike

The No-Triangle Hypothesis for N=8 Supergravity
We study the perturbative expansion of N=8 supergravity in four dimensions
from the viewpoint of the ``no-triangle'' hypothesis, which states that
one-loop graviton amplitudes in N=8 supergravity only contain scalar box
integral functions. Our computations constitute a direct proof at six-points
and support the no-triangle conjecture for seven-point amplitudes and beyond.Comment: 43page
Effect of local injection of Corynebacterium parvum on the growth of a murine fibrosarcoma.
Local injection (i.e. injection at the site of tumour inoculation) of strains of C. Parvum which have a significant anti-tumour effect when given systemically (i.e. intravenously or, in the case of subcutaneous tumour transplant, intraperitoneally) strongly inhibits the growth of isogeneic transplants of a fibrosarcoma in intact CBA mice but has little or no effect on subcutaneous transplants of the same tumour in T-cell deprived mice. The anti-tumour effect of local injection of C. parvum, unlike that of systemic injection in this particular tumour system, thus appears to be T-cell dependent
Inherited Twistor-Space Structure of Gravity Loop Amplitudes
At tree-level, gravity amplitudes are obtainable directly from gauge theory
amplitudes via the Kawai, Lewellen and Tye closed-open string relations. We
explain how the unitarity method allows us to use these relations to obtain
coefficients of box integrals appearing in one-loop N=8 supergravity amplitudes
from the recent computation of the coefficients for N=4 super-Yang-Mills
non-maximally-helicity-violating amplitudes. We argue from factorisation that
these box coefficients determine the one-loop N=8 supergravity amplitudes,
although this remains to be proven. We also show that twistor-space properties
of the N=8 supergravity amplitudes are inherited from the corresponding
properties of N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We give a number of examples

Laughter influences social bonding but not prosocial generosity to friends and strangers
Humans deploy a number of specific behaviours for forming social bonds, one of which is laughter. However, two questions have not yet been investigated with respect to laughter: (1) Does laughter increase the sense of bonding to those with whom we laugh? and (2) Does laughter facilitate prosocial generosity? Using changes in pain threshold as a proxy for endorphin upregulation in the brain and a standard economic game (the Dictator Game) as an assay of prosociality, we show that laughter does trigger the endorphin system and, through that, seems to enhance social bonding, but it does not reliably influence donations to others. This suggests that social bonding and prosociality may operate via different mechanisms, or on different time scales, and relate to different functional objectives
The impact of governance on management research
The rigor versus relevance debate of management research is ongoing. We
contribute to this discussion by contrasting alternative assumptions about
generating management knowledge and linking knowledge generation to academic
governance. Specifically, we show that knowledge-by-representation dominates
the field and is reinforced by the governance structures and processes guiding
our academic management journals, peer review, and business school practices.
We propose governance changes in academic publishing to encourage innovative
research that may also generate knowledge-by-exemplification with strong ties
to management practice
Infrared behavior of graviton-graviton scattering
The quantum effective theory of general relativity, independent of the
eventual full theory at high energy, expresses graviton-graviton scattering at
one loop order O(E^4) with only one parameter, Newton's constant. Dunbar and
Norridge have calculated the one loop amplitude using string based techniques.
We complete the calculation by showing that the 1/(d-4) divergence which
remains in their result comes from the infrared sector and that the cross
section is finite and model independent when the usual bremsstrahlung diagrams
