This paper tests the endogenous relationship between FDI and economic growth using a panel dataset for 23 OECD countries for the period 1975-2004. Following the literature, we treat economic growth and FDI as endogenous variables, and estimate a two-equation simultaneous equation system with the generalized methods of moments (GMM) for the OECD case. We find that FDI and growth are important determinants of for each other. We also find that export growth rate is statistically significant determinant of FDI and economic growth. Our results indicate that there is an endogenous relationship between FDI and economic growth.FDI, growth

The second-order linear hypergeometric differential equation and the hypergeometric function play a central role in many areas of mathematics and physics. The purpose of this paper is to obtain differential equations and the hypergeometric forms of the Fibonacci and the Lucas polynomials. We also write again these polynomials by means of Olver’s hypergeometric functions. In addition, we present some relations between these polynomials and the other well-known functions

Akut perikardit ile komplike olan özafagus yırtığı

Özofagus perforasyonu yüksek mortalite hızı olan ciddi bir durumdur. Özofagus perforasyonunun gecikmiş tanısı mediastinit ve perikardit gibi yıkıcı komplikasyonlarla sonuçlanabilmektedir. Özofagus perforasyonları nadiren yabancı cisim aspirasyonuna bağlı olmaktadır. Bu yazıda tavuk kemiği yutulmasına bağlı ve ilk bulguları akut nonspesifik perikarditi düşündüren komplike olmuş özofagus perforasyonlu 59 yaşında bir erkek olgu sunuldu.Esophageal perforation is a serious condition with a high mortality rate. Delayed detection of esophageal perforation may result in devastating complications such as mediastinitis and pericarditis. Esophageal perforation is rare- ly due to aspiration of foreign bodies. Here we report the case of a 59-year-old male patient with complicated esophageal perforation due to ingestion of a chicken bone, whose first signs are considered to be acute non-specific pericarditis

Background: In previous studies, the relationship between career choice and psychological factors has been discussed many times. On the other hand, we have less information about interaction between early maladaptive schemas and career choice. Subjects and methods: We planned to evaluate the specialty preferences of doctors in the perspective of schema theory. Doctors from the 2 to 10 years of their careers were included in the study. A Sociodemographic data form and Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form 3 was applied to 275 participants; 167 clinical specialties and 108 surgical specialties. Results: According to our results surgeons scored higher in emotional deprivation, mistrust / abuse, social isolation / alienation, defectiveness / shame, and emotional inhibition. As schema domains, surgeons scored higher disconnection and rejection and excessive responsibility and standards. Conclusions: Early maladaptive schemas can affect the choice of profession and the ability to adapt. Understanding early maladaptive schemas can play a role both in orientation towards the right career choice and in resolving negative factors related to the work environment

Relation of apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism with the severity of coronary artery disease in patients with stable ischemic heart diseas

Aim: Atherosclerosis begins from an early age and manifests in later years as Coronary artery disease (CAD). This inflammatory process is aggravated by age, smoking, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and genetic factors. We aimed to investigate which isoform of APOE is related to extensive coronary lesions in patients with stable coronary heart disease. Materials and Methods: This study was carried on single center. One hundred and ten patients diagnosed with stable coronary artery disease by coronary angiogram were enrolled consecutively. Syntax score was calculated by a tool of website calculator (www. syntax.com). According to the Syntax score, patients were split into three groups. APOE genotyping was performed through blood samples. Patients split into three groups according to the APOE genotypes: E4 (3/4 and 4/4 genotypes), E3(3/3 genotype), E2 (2/2 and 2/3 genotypes). Results: Coronary angiography and APOE genotypes of 98 patients were analyzed. 81 of patients (%82.6) had E3E3 allele; 6 of patients (%6.1) had E2E3 allele; 10 patients (%10.2) had E3E4 allele and 1 patient (%1) had E2E4 allele. Due to the contrast effect of E2 and E4 on CAD, we excluded patients with E2E4 allele from the study. Firstly, we assessed distribution of APOE genotype E2 (E2E3), E3 (E3E3 and E3E4), E4 (E3E4) within 3 groups of syntax scores. Total of 6 patients of E2 allele was at low syntax score group. 83 patients of E3 allele were at the low-risk group of syntax score. 10 patients of E3 allele were at the mid group and 4 patients were at the high-risk group of syntax score. 7 patients of E4 allele subjects were at the low-risk and 1 patient was at the high-risk group of syntax score. Compared to syntax score groups and APOE genotypes, E2 alleles were in lower syntax score group versus E3 (P=0.046) and E4 (P=0.003) alleles. However E4 alleles were in higher syntax score group versus E3 alleles (P= 0.034). The Syntax score was seemed to be lower in the E2 allele group versus E4 and E2 groups (P=0.013). Conclusion: we reported the first study that E2 allele was related with less and E4 allele was more extensity and severity of CAD in patients with stable ischemic coronary diseas

An estimation of the performance of a passive cooling system incorporating a ground heat exchanger using a multilayer artificial neural network

Abstract Objective: This paper examines the cooling of an office building without a heat pump, using only ground heat exchangers (GHE) and implementing artificial neural network (ANN) to train it on experimental data. Methods: The office building is situated at 38° 40′ 57′′ N latitude and 39° 10′ 29′′ E longitude in the province of Elazig. Each minute, the installed system was monitoring the office’s external meteorological data, the office’s indoor meteorological data, the GHE inlet and outlet temperatures, and the amount of heat load developed during the cooling process. In this study, the passive cooling system’s cooling load and coefficient of performance (COP) were experimentally examined. A second important contribution of this paper is the multilayer ANN model that was created using data selected from the experimental setup, which was measured and recorded. Results: During the summer months of 2018, the COP of the system was measured to be 1.67 on average. The accuracy rates of the multilayer ANN model proposed for cooling systems were calculated to be over 99% and 95% in the training and test datasets, respectively. It was observed that the performance value estimated by ANN converges to the true value by 99%. Conclusion: Having performed this study, it has been demonstrated that passive cooling can be achieved with GHE, and by conducting this study without utilizing a heat pump system, we intend to contribute significantly to the relevant scientific literature

Serum apelin levels and cardiovascular diseases

Apelin is a G protein-linked receptor endogenous ligand, synthesized as a 77-amino acid pre-propeptide. Increased expression of apelin is present in many cardiovascular (CV) tissues, including cardiomyocytes. It is a peripheral vasodilator and one of the most potent stimulants of ventricular contraction. Apelin may be a valuable therapeutic for both blood pressure regulation and myocardial performance. More information is needed for the CV pathophysiology of apelin. We will discuss the importance of apelin level in CV diseases in this review

Relation of multicenter automatic defibrillator implantation trial implantable cardioverter-defibrillator score with long-term cardiovascular events in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that multicenter automatic defibrillator implantation trial (MADIT) - implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) scores predict replacement requirement and appropriate shock in a mixed population including both primary and secondary prevention and long-term adverse cardiovascular events. METHODS: The study has a retrospective design. Patients who were implanted with ICD in the cardiology clinic of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine between 2000 and 2013 were included in the study. For this purpose, 1394 patients who were implanted with a device in our clinic were reviewed. Then, those who were implanted with permanent pacemaker (n=1005), cardiac resynchronization treatment (CRT) (n=45) and CRT-ICD (n=198) were excluded. RESULTS: A total of 146 patients (98 males, 67.1%) with a mean age of 61.1 (±14.8) years were recruited. The median follow-up time was 21.5 months (mean 30.6±25.9 months; minimum 4 months, and maximum 120 months). The median MADIT-ICD scores in the patients were 2. MADIT-ICD scores were categorized as low in 15.1%, intermediate in 57.5%, and high score in 27.4% of patients. Accordingly, MADIT-ICD scores (1.29 [1.00–1.68], p=0.050), hemoglobin (0.86 [0.75–0.99], p=0.047), and left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) (0.97 [0.94–0.99], p=0.023) were determined as independent predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events in the long-term follow-up of ICD-implanted population. CONCLUSION: In this study, we showed that there was an independent association of long-term adverse cardiovascular events with MADIT-ICD score, hemoglobin, and EF in patients implanted with ICD

Organik Yetiştiricilikte Bezelye-Fasulye-Bakla Rotasyonunun Verim Ve Kalite Özelliklerine Etkisi

Organik tarımda temel ilkelerden biri işletme dışı girdiler yerine işletme içi girdilere dayalı olabildiğince kapalı bir sistemin kurulmasıdır. Bu açıdan yeşil gübreleme, organik tarım teknikleri arasında toprak verimliliğinin sağlanması açısından temel bir uygulamadır. Çalışma, ardı ardına yetiştirilen baklagil sebze türlerinin önceki baklagil türünden nasıl etkilendiğinin belirlenmesi amacıyla Ege Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü deneme alanlarında 4 tekerrürlü ve bölünmüş parseller deneme desenine göre kurulmuştur. Bu amaçla 3 farklı baklagil sebze türü (bezelye, fasulye, bakla) birbiri ardına üretimde ülkemizde geçerli organik tarıma ilişkin kanun ve yönetmelikler izlenerek yetiştirilmiştir. Ayrıca bölünmüş parsellerde içeriği bilinen ve organik tarımda kullanımı sertifikalandırılmış Biofarm Aktif (N:P:K, 3,5:3:3) kompostundan elde edilen kompost çayının etkileri de araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada üretimi yapılan bezelye, fasulye ve bakla bitkilerinin toplam biyomasları, verimleri (parsel başına verim, birim alandaki verim, bitki başına verim) ve temel kalite parametreleri (bakla eni, bakla boyu, bakla ağırlığı, ortalama tohum sayısı) belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca hasat edilen ürün dışında toprağa karıştırılan kök-gövde-yaprak biyomasları hesaplanarak bir sonraki ürüne olan etkileri araştırılmıştır. Denemeler sonunda bezelye sonrası fasulye yetiştiriciliğinde yapılan kompost çayı uygulamasının kontrol ile karşılaştırılmasında verim ve kalite yönünden istatistiksel anlamda farklılıklar görülmemiştir. Benzer şekilde fasulye sonrası yetiştirilen bakla bitkisinde de verim ve kalite açısından istatistiksel farklılık saptanamamıştır. Bakla yetiştiriciliği sonrası toprağa karıştırılan toplam kuru madde miktarında kompost çayı uygulanan parsellerde artış saptanmıştır.
