The Constraints on CP Violating Phases in models with a dynamical gluino phase
We have analyzed the electric dipole moment and the Higgs mass constraints on
the supersymmetric model which offers dynamical solutions to the \mu and strong
CP problems. The trilinear coupling phases, and \tan\beta-|\mu| are strongly
correlated, particularly in the low-\tan\beta regime. Certain values of the
phases of the trilinear couplings are forbidden, whereas the CP violating phase
from the chargino sector is imprisoned to lie near a CP conserving point, by
the Higgs mass and electric dipole moment constraints.Comment: 19 pages, 11 eps fig
General relations of heavy quark-antiquark potentials induced by reparameterization invariance
A set of general relations between the spin-independent and spin-dependent
potentials of heavy quark and anti-quark interactions are derived from
reparameterization invariance in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory. It covers
the Gromes relation and includes some new interesting relations which are
useful in understanding the spin-independent and spin-dependent relativistic

Selection rules in three-body B decay from factorization
Extending the dynamics underlying the factorization calculation of two-body
decays, we propose simple selection rules for nonresonant three-body B decays.
We predict, for instance, that in the Dalitz plot of B^0-->D^0-bar\pi^+\pi^-,
practically no events should be found in the corner of E(\pi^+) < \Lambda_{QCD}
as compared with the corner of E(\pi^-) < \Lambda_{QCD}. We also predict that
there should be very few three-body decay events with a soft meson resonance
and two energetic mesons or meson resonances. The selection rules are quite
different from the soft pion theorem, since they apply to different kinematical
regions. For B^0 -->D^0-bar\pi^+\pi^-, the latter predicts that the decay
matrix element vanishes in the zero-four-momentum limit of \pi^+ instead of
\pi^-. Since this marked difference from the soft pion theorem is directly
related to the issue of short-distance QCD dominance in the FSI of two-body B
decays, experimental test of the selection rules will shed light on strong

Learning hierarchical sequence representations across human cortex and hippocampus
Sensory input arrives in continuous sequences that humans experience as segmented units, e.g., words and events. The brain’s ability to discover regularities is called statistical learning. Structure can be represented at multiple levels, including transitional probabilities, ordinal position, and identity of units. To investigate sequence encoding in cortex and hippocampus, we recorded from intracranial electrodes in human subjects as they were exposed to auditory and visual sequences containing temporal regularities. We find neural tracking of regularities within minutes, with characteristic profiles across brain areas. Early processing tracked lower-level features (e.g., syllables) and learned units (e.g., words), while later processing tracked only learned units. Learning rapidly shaped neural representations, with a gradient of complexity from early brain areas encoding transitional probability, to associative regions and hippocampus encoding ordinal position and identity of units. These findings indicate the existence of multiple, parallel computational systems for sequence learning across hierarchically organized cortico-hippocampal circuits

New two-loop contribution to electric dipole moment in supersymmetric theories
We calculate a new type of two-loop contributions to the electric dipole
moments of the electron and neutron in supersymmetric theories. The new
contributions are originated from the potential CP violation in the trilinear
couplings of the Higgs bosons to the scalar-top or the scalar-bottom quarks.
These couplings were previously very weakly constrained. The electric dipole
moments are induced through a mechanism analogous to that due to Barr and Zee.
We find observable effects for a sizeable portion of the parameter space
related to the third generation scalar-quarks in the minimal supersymmetric
standard model which cannot be excluded by earlier considerations.Comment: Erratum appended in the paper: EDM predictions are by a factor 2

Technicolor Theories with Negative S
We show that the pseudo Nambu--Goldstone boson contribution to the
Peskin--Takeuchi electroweak parameter can be negative in a class of
technicolor theories. This negative contribution can be large enough to cancel
the positive techni-hadron contribution, showing that electroweak precision
tests alone cannot be used to rule out technicolor as the mechanism of
