h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma in the complex two Higgs doublet model

The latest LHC data confirmed the existence of a Higgs-like particle and made interesting measurements on its decays into γγ\gamma \gamma, ZZ∗Z Z^\ast, WW∗W W^\ast, τ+τ−\tau^+ \tau^-, and bbˉb \bar{b}. It is expected that a decay into ZγZ \gamma might be measured at the next LHC round, for which there already exists an upper bound. The Higgs-like particle could be a mixture of scalar with a relatively large component of pseudoscalar. We compute the decay of such a mixed state into ZγZ \gamma, and we study its properties in the context of the complex two Higgs doublet model, analysing the effect of the current measurements on the four versions of this model. We show that a measurement of the h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma rate at a level consistent with the SM can be used to place interesting constraints on the pseudoscalar component. We also comment on the issue of a wrong sign Yukawa coupling for the bottom in Type II models.Comment: 31 pages, 15 figure

    A reappraisal of the wrong-sign hbb‾hb\overline{b} coupling and the study of h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma

It has been pointed out recently that current experiments still allow for a two Higgs doublet model where the hbbˉh b \bar{b} coupling (kDmb/vk_D m_b/v) is negative; a sign opposite to that of the Standard Model. Due to the importance of delayed decoupling in the hH+H−h H^+ H^- coupling, h→γγh \rightarrow \gamma \gamma improved measurements will have a strong impact on this issue. For the same reason, measurements or even bounds on h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma are potentially interesting. In this article, we revisit this problem, highlighting the crucial importance of h→VVh \rightarrow VV, which can be understood with simple arguments. We show that the impacts on kD<0k_D<0 models of both h→bbˉh \rightarrow b \bar{b} and h→τ+τ−h \rightarrow \tau^+ \tau^- are very sensitive to input values for the gluon fusion production mechanism; in contrast, h→γγh \rightarrow \gamma \gamma and h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma are not. We also inquire if the search for h→Zγh \rightarrow Z \gamma and its interplay with h→γγh \rightarrow \gamma \gamma will impact the sign of the hbbˉh b \bar{b} coupling. Finally, we study these issues in the context of the Flipped two Higgs doublet model.Comment: 13 pages, pdf figure

Squark-mediated Higgs+jets production at the LHC

    Get PDF
We investigate possible scenarios of light-squark production at the LHC as a new mechanism to produce Higgs bosons in association with jets. The study is motivated by the SUSY search for H+jets events, performed by the CMS collaboration on 8 and 13 TeV data using the razor variables. Two simplified models are proposed to interpret the observations in this search. The constraint from Run I and the implications for Run II and beyond are discussed

Living on a trophic subsidy: Algal quality drives an upper-shore herbivore’s consumption, preference and absorption but not growth rates

Indexación: Scopus. The transfer of seaweeds from subtidal bottoms to nearby intertidal rocky shores is a common but often overlooked phenomenon. Freshly detached seaweeds often represent critical trophic subsidies for herbivores living in upper-shore rocky intertidal areas, such as the marine snail Diloma nigerrima. This species relies on three species of seaweeds for food and displays feeding strategies to deal with a resource that is scarce and at times unpredictable. This study focused on the nutritional quality of freshly detached algae (Durvillaea antarctica, Lessonia spicata and Lessonia trabeculata) and measured Diloma nigerrima’s algal consumption rates in trials with and without choice. Absorption efficiency and growth of individual snails fed on each alga were also measured. Durvillaea antarctica had the highest nutritional quality and was the most consumed algae in both single and multiple-choice trials. Absorption efficiency was also highest for D. antarctica but growth rates of snails fed with this species were similar to those fed with the other algae. Combined, these results suggest that D. nigerrima has the ability to discriminate among seaweeds based on their nutritional quality. A potential increase in oxygen uptake when D. nigerrima is consuming the preferred food item is also proposed as a plausible hypothesis to explain the mismatch between snails’ preference and growth rate. These results aim to guide further studies on trophic subsidies and their role in coastal systems. © 2018 Quintanilla-Ahumada et al. A Method to Tackle First Order Differential Equations with Liouvillian Functions in the Solution - II

We present a semi-decision procedure to tackle first order differential equations, with Liouvillian functions in the solution (LFOODEs). As in the case of the Prelle-Singer procedure, this method is based on the knowledge of the integrating factor structure.Comment: 11 pages, late

Improving the Knowledge on Seismogenic Sources in the Lower Tagus Valley for Seismic Hazard Purposes

    Get PDF
The Lower Tagus Valley, that includes the metropolitan area of Lisbon, has been struck by several earthquakes which produced significant material damage and loss of lives. Their exact location remains unknown. Our goal is to shed some light into the seismogenic sources in the area using seismic reflection and geological data. In areas with no seismic coverage, potential-field data interpretation was carried out. Seismicity was overlaid to the potential seismogenic structures and high-resolution data was acquired in order to confirm which structures have been active into the Quaternary. Three major fault-zones affecting the Neogene were identified: V. F. Xira, Samora-Alcochete and Pinhal Novo. For the first fault, strong evidences suggest it is active. The other two fault-zones and other structures previously unknown can be correlated with several epicentres. Empirical relationships between maximum moment magnitude and fault area indicate that MW > 6.5 earthquakes can be expected for the larger structures
