    SYNTHESIS OF MESOPOROUS TITANIUM OXIDE AND CATALYTIC ACTIVITY OF Ru/m-TiO2

    A series of mesoporous TiO2 oxide (m-TiO2) were synthesized by using n-cetylpyridinium chloride (C16PyCl) as a structure-directing agent under complete different conditions. The synthesized mesoporous samples were characterized by means of FT-IR, XRD, and N2 adsorption methods. Effects of template, solvent, pH, ageing temperature and C16PyCl/TTIP molar ratio on the structure and stability of m-TiO2 were also discussed. The results show that the property of m-TiO2 synthesized by using C16PyCl as template, C2H5OH as solvent, pH 7-8, ageing temperature 20 oC and C16PyCl/TTIP molar ratio 2 are superior to that of m-TiO2 prepared under other conditions. After being loaded by the impregnating method, the Ru particle strongly interacts with the mesoporous supports. The catalytic activity of Ru/m-TiO2 for methanol decomposition to carbon monoxide and hydrogen was investigated. It is found that synthesizing conditions of mesoporous materials affect the catalytic activity of Ru/m-TiO2.     1388-1391A series of LaSrCo0.9B'0.1O4 (B'= Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu) mixed oxides have been prepared by the polyacrylamide gel method and used successfully for CO and C3H5 oxidation. The results show that the specific effects of B' ions on CO and C3H8 oxidation depend on their category. In comparison to the LaSrCoO4 catalyst, the activity of LaSrCo0.9Ni0.1O4 catalyst for CO and C3H8 oxidation is higher, while the activity of Mn, Fe or Cu-doped catalysts is lower. The TPD and XRD analyses show that the increase in oxidation activity of LaSrCo0.9Ni0.1O4 catalyst towards CO and C3H8 oxidation can be related to the increase in O2-adsorption, CO2 -desorption quantity and the lattice distortion

    Biodegradable magnesium alloys have excellent properties with respect to biodegradability, biocompatibility, and biomechanics, which may indicate a possibility of its application in intestinal stents. Investigation of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy's application in intestinal stents has been performed. This study aims to investigate the degradation behavior of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy intestinal stents coated with poly(L-lactide)/paclitaxel in the intestinal environment and its biocompatibility with intestinal tissue. In this paper, Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy's corrosion properties were evaluated by the immersion test in human feces, SEM and XRD, and animal tests. In vitro results showed that when the Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy was immersed in human feces for two weeks, its corrosion resistance could be improved by micro arc oxidation (MAO) and poly-l-lactide (PLLA) dual coating. Additionally, this result was also confirmed in vivo experiments by rabbit model. And animal tests also demonstrated that the Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy with MAO/PLLA/paclitaxel dual coating drug-eluting stents could inhibit the proliferation of local intestinal tissue around the stents. However, in vivo studies illustrated that the intestinal stents gradually degraded in rabbit model within 12 days. Considering the degradation rate of the stent was faster than expected in rabbits, the support performance of the scaffold requires further improvement

    Background: In China, Coptis chinensis Franch. (Chinese name: Huanglian) prescriptions (HLPs) are prominent hypoglycemic agents used in glycemic control. However, the curative effect of HLPs as adjunctive therapies for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has not been evaluated. Based on a systematic review and a meta-analysis, this study was conducted to assess the effects of HLPs combined with metformin as a reinforcing agent for T2DM.Materials and methods: A total of 33 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting on 2,846 cases concerning the use of HLPs in the treatment of T2DM were identified from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Weipu (VIP), Wanfang, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases. Primary outcomes included fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2-h postprandial blood glucose (2hPG), glycosylated hemoglobin, type A1c (HbA1c), fasting serum insulin (FINS), and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Secondary outcomes included total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), and gastrointestinal dysfunction (GD). Continuous data were expressed as mean differences (MDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The methodological quality of the included RCTs was assessed by Cochrane evidence-based medicine systematic evaluation. Statistical analysis was performed using the Review Manager and Stata software. The required information size and treatment benefits were evaluated by trial sequential analysis (TSA). The quality of evidence was rated using the Grades of Recommendation Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach.Results: The results revealed that HLPs are beneficial to improve the following: FBG (MD = −1.16%, 95% CI: −1.24 to −1.07), 2hPG (MD = −1.64%, 95% CI: −1.84 to −1.43), HbA1c (MD = −0.78%, 95% CI:−0.96 to −0.60), FINS (MD = −1.94%, 95% CI: −2.68 to −1.20), HOMA-IR (MD = −0.77%, 95% CI: −1.28 to −0.27), TC (MD = −0.70%, 95% CI: −1.00 to −0.39), TG (MD = −0.57%, 95% CI: −0.74 to −0.40), LDL-c (MD = −0.70%, 95% CI: −0.97 to −0.43), and HDL-c (MD = −0.21%, 95% CI: −0.32 to −0.10) for patients with T2DM. The funnel plot, Egger’s test, and trim-and-fill method indicated a moderate publication bias in the results. The TSA showed that the required sample size of HLPs in improving FBG, 2hPG, HbA1c, FINS, HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-c, and HDL-c could sufficiently draw reliable conclusions. GRADE assessment revealed that the quality of the evidence for the effectiveness of HLPs in improving FBG was moderate, but the quality of evidence for 2hPG, HbA1c, FINS, HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-c, and HDL-c was low, and for GD was very low.Conclusion: The systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that HLPs were beneficial for achieving glycemic control. However, HLPs recommended for T2DM patients have yet to be confirmed because of the poor methodological quality of some trials. Therefore, more RCTs with multicenter and double-blind designs are needed to assess the efficacy of HLPs for patients with T2DM.</p

    Dual-Wavelength Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay for Simultaneous Detection of Sulfonamides and Antibacterial Synergists in Milk

    Combinations of sulfonamides (SAs) and antibacterial synergists (ASGs) are frequently used for treating infectious diseases and promoting growth for animals, which cause potential hazards to food safety and human health. To realize the simultaneous detection of SAs and ASGs in food, a homogeneous and high-throughput screening dual-wavelength fluorescence polarization immunoassay (DWFPIA) was developed. In this study, three SAs tracers and three ASGs tracers were synthesized by fluoresceins with different linkers and paired with their corresponding monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), respectively. To achieve a high sensitivity and broad specificity, the combination of tracers SADMPM-HDF with the longest linker paring mAb 10E6 for SAs and tracer HaptenA-DSCA paring mAb 9C9 for ASGs were chosen for the development of DWFPIA, achieving surprising IC50 values for 23 SAs below 100 μg L−1 and 5 ASGs below 50 μg L−1. The accuracy of DWFPIA was applied in real milk samples by typical sulfamethazine (SMZ) and trimethoprim (TMP), with recoveries of 81.7–97.2% and 78.6–103.6%, and coefficient of variations (CVs) below 18.9%, which could be completed within 15 min, including sample pretreatment.     A Resource for Inactivation of MicroRNAs Using Short Tandem Target Mimic Technology in Model and Crop Plants

    microRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small non-coding RNAs that bind to mRNAs and target them for cleavage and/or translational repression, leading to gene silencing. We previously developed short tandem target mimic (STTM) technology to deactivate endogenous miRNAs in Arabidopsis. Here, we created hundreds of STTMs that target both conserved and species-specific miRNAs in Arabidopsis, tomato, rice, and maize, providing a resource for the functional interrogation of miRNAs. We not only revealed the functions of several miRNAs in plant development, but also demonstrated that tissue-specific inactivation of a few miRNAs in rice leads to an increase in grain size without adversely affecting overall plant growth and development. RNA-seq and small RNA-seq analyses of STTM156/157 and STTM165/166 transgenic plants revealed the roles of these miRNAs in plant hormone biosynthesis and activation, secondary metabolism, and ion-channel activity-associated electrophysiology, demonstrating that STTM technology is an effective approach for studying miRNA functions. To facilitate the study and application of STTM transgenic plants and to provide a useful platform for storing and sharing of information about miRNA-regulated gene networks, we have established an online Genome Browser (https://blossom.ffr.mtu.edu/designindex2.php) to display the transcriptomic and miRNAomic changes in STTM-induced miRNA knockdown plants
